Trusted Identity provider option is greyed out cannot select

I am following these steps from https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn635311.aspx

Configure SharePoint for the new identity provider

Use the following steps to configure your SharePoint installation to the new identity provider for Azure AD.

  1. Verify that the user account that is performing this procedure is a member of the Farm Administrators SharePoint group.

  2. In Central Administration, on the home page, click Application Management.

  3. On the Application Management page, in the Web Applications section, click Manage web applications.

  4. Click the appropriate web application.

  5. From the ribbon, click Authentication Providers.

  6. Under Zone, click the name of the zone. For example, Default.

  7. On the Edit Authentication page, in the Claims Authentication Types section, select Trusted Identity provider, and then click the name of your provider, which for purposes of this article is ACS Provider. Click OK.

  8. The following figure illustrates the Trusted Provider setting.

I get stuck at step 7 Trusted Identity provider option is greyed out and I cannot select.

Why?

The server farm account should not be used for other services.

Hi, I am getting below message on the SharePoint Central Administration Console. Kindly suggest for the solution.

The account used for the SharePoint timer service and the central administration site, is highly privileged and should not be used for any other services on any machines in the server farm.  The following services were found to use this account: SharePoint - 80 (Application Pool) User Profile Synchronization Service(Windows Service).

SharePoint 2010 UPS issues while on SQL2014

$

Hi all,

Recently we found out our UPS isn't working. Now, I'm sure we're not the first with this issue, however, I'm sure I followed Spence Harbars two great articles (http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010ups.aspx& http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010ups2.aspx) regarding the UPS in SharePoint 2010. Our problem is that the UPS isn't starting, neither in our production environment as in our test environment.

After spending hours, days, and meanwhile even weeks on it, we finally realized we're not able to fix this issue ourselves, resulting in contacting a 3rd party regarding this issue. After discussing this issue with them, it turns out that we're in an unsupported situation right now, as we're running everything on SQL2014. Of course, I do realize we never should have upgraded SQL (from 2008R2Ent), but it is how it is and looking back it's even performing better than you'd expect. However, the technical guys at the 3rd party can't assist us as it's simply not a supported state.

Now knowing this, my question is whether you can assist us in getting this running again. At a high level, we do see 3 options:
1. Get everything running on SQL2014 (SP2010 on SQL2014)
2. Migrate the databases back to SQL2008R2 (SP2010 on SQL2008R2)
3. Upgrade SharePoint to 2013 (SP2013 on SQL2014)

As you'll understand, we spent much time on option 1, but we believe we're not able to fix this (at least not ourselves). As we'd like to get it back in a supported state, we spent time on option 2 as well, but the complexity of SharePoint databases is so high that this seems an impossible job to do. This leaves option 3, which in the end should work, bus as you all might imagine this will take time, planning, resources and whatever. And, as the current state isn't supported, I'm quite sure we'll face the necessary challenges here as well.

Could you advise us what's the best option in your opinion? If there are better options, of course we're interested in that as well. Like to hear from you!

Kind regards,

H Za

Can not delete corrupted folder

$

Hi there,

I'm using SharePoint Foundation 2010 and am having problem with one of the site collections.

It's a simple 'Team site'. The problem is that I can not delete the certain folder, which seems to be corrupted.

Symptoms:

if I try to delete it I receive error "Access Denied", even though I use farm admin account.

if I try to 'Manage permissions', I receive error "Can not complete this action".

if I try to 'Edit Properties' (rename library) I receive error "Access Denied".

'View Properties' works good.

Looking in WebDav, the folder doesn't exist.

if I try to create a new folder with the same name within the same root library, I receive error that folder already exists.

Steps taken:

1. the entire site collection was backed up (using Backup-SPSite) and restored (Restore-SPSite) to the newly-created site collection within another Web App

and content database - the corrupted folder was carried over and the issue remained the same.

2. tried to use .NET methods to delete this folder but received error:

$rabbit = Get-SPWeb "https://site1.sharepoint.local/BD"
$damaged_folder = $rabbit.GetFolder("Services/Technical Team/Mit")

attempted to delete:
PS C:\Windows\system32> $damaged_folder.Delete()
Exception calling "Delete" with "0" argument(s): "Cannot remove file "Mit". Error Code: 16389."

attempted to move to Recycle Bin:
PS C:\Windows\system32> $damaged_folder.Recycle()
Exception calling "Recycle" with "0" argument(s): "Cannot remove file "Mit". Error Code: 16389."

Looking at the properties of $damaged_folder, I've noticed that property 'EffectiveRawPermissions' was blank, while for the normal folder it was set to 'FullMask'

I've tried to update it but received an error:

PS C:\Windows\system32> $damaged_folder.EffectiveRawPermissions = "FullMask"
"EffectiveRawPermissions" is a ReadOnly property.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Unable to set up a new Secure Store Service Application in a single-server installation

Problem: after initial SharePoint installation, I tried to add the Secure Store Service Application under "Manager Services Applications".  The process screen returns something like "The time job created.  But failed to start in one or more servers in the farm."  Further investigation found that in the SQL Server, the secure service account was not added under the Login user accounts.  The Secure_Store_Service_DB has been created, but not under the name of secure store service account.  In another word, the database was created but the action seems to be incomplete.

Background: this is a single server farm installation on Windows Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008 R2, with AD CS and AD DS, DNS roles enabled on the same box.  The configuration task was running with the farm admin account which is also a domain admin, and has dbcreator, securityadmin, and sysadmin roles in the SQL server.

My Portal Site Collection Database size is 284 GB

Hi,

My SharePoint portal content database size has reached to 284 GB. The site collection has multiple sub sites and document libraries. As per Microsoft recommendations, the content db size should not be greater than 200 GB. If this is the case, Please let me know how can I divide my collection into multiple databases.

Should I divide contents by creating multiple site collection and dividing groups of sub sites into different site collections? What is the best solution for this problem.

Thanks

Unable to log into web site via sharepoint after moving DCs to a different segment of class "C" network

Hello folks,

I have been tasked to move our 2 domain controllers to a non-internet facing segment of our Class "C" network. We run SharePoint 2010 on our web server and once I have made the change, we are no longer able to login. Logon window just loops like a bad password error.

After the change is in place NSLookup resolves all server names and IPs. Remote desktop works across the network by name and IPs. DNS is registered, Webserver has DCs IPs listed for DNS. We just cannot log into the website.

Please help.

Missing Components in SharePoint Farm keeping upgrade from processing

$

I will try to be as thorough as possible with this explanation, please bear with me.

I recently upgraded my SP2010 farm from SP1 to SP2. Farm consists of 2 WFE , 1 Admin server, and 1 DBs. All 3 servers in the farm were given the SP2 installer and ran, then upgraded via PSConfig commands. Then our patching server sent out patches, CUs, etc. The 2 WFEs showed patch status up to date, but the Admin server showed missing components, some of which were part of SP1. I ran a script to show me what the patch and revision levels were between the 3 servers, obviously the 2 WFEs were the same, but the Admin was not, showing that it was missing the following...

I made an attempt to install these individually, but most prompted me with the message, could not install due to missing component or wrong version. I thought about running a "Repair" through Programs and Features in the hopes it would reinstall whatever it thinks it is missing, however I am not sure. All the sites are working, except Central Admin which is hosted on the server that is not showing present and proper patch levels. Running the wizard failes stating patch levels are not matching, nor does trying it via PowerShell forced or otherwise. Any help would be appreciated, thank you kindly.

Check file header before / after upload

Hello,

I want to check the file header before ( or after ) I upload an Attachment ( File )
to an Sharepoint Item.

Is there a way/solution to read the file header ( hex read ) ?

Based on the information I get from the "stream" I want to classify
the file/attachment in sharepoint ( e.g. wrong header / correct header )

Second solution:
I could also upload all files and the run a "check header tool" within Sharepoint.
Is this possible ?

Steve

Hi,
I'm among the persons who are members in the Farm Administrators Group. There is only one application which has only one Site Collection. From the CA I added my self as the Secondary site collection administrator but when I open the URL I can't see the Site Actions button.
I think it's still about permission issue but I don't know how to solve it since I have the highest permission (Secondary site admin) on the site collection.
Is there any one can help me?

I need to find out who the site owners are for about 50 sharePoint sites. We need to contact site owners.

Is there a powershell script that will tell me who site owners are for all of my sites.

I have tried  get-spweb http://site/subsite | format-table -property URL, owner, quota

This only gives me the url though, The site field has no data, nor does the quota (don't need quota, this was just added as a test)

Thanks

I just cannot find any possible solution for the "Exception: Cannot create an instance of System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary`2[Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPUrlZone,System.Collections.Generic.List`1[T]] because Type.ContainsGenericParameters is true." error message.

While logged in as a User in Sharepoint 2010, if I navigate to the main page of our Sharepoint (http://sharepoint) it asks for my username and password but never actually logs on (stuck in a loop). If I navigate straight to http://sharepoint/default.aspx, it works fine.

If I'm logged in as the System Account admin, then navigating to http://sharepoint redirects me automatically to /default.aspx.

SharePoint 2010 - Excel DDE error

Hi,

We have migrated our portal from WSS 3.0 to SharePoint 2010 platform. In new SharePoint 2010 portal, when user tries to open any excel file from the version history it gives below DDE error.

A DDE error has occured, and a description of the error cannot be displayed because it is too long. If the filename or path is long, try renaming the file or copying it to a different folder.

If the total length of the file which is getting opened is greater than 218 characters and if any other excel file is already opened then we are getting this DDE error. If no other excel file is opened then the file will open without any issues.

Awaiting for reply.

Regards,
Raman.
