Configuration Wizard Failing on Step 5

$

0

We are trying to configure Sharepoint 2010 on our R2 machine. Every time we try to run the Configuration Wizard we run into an error on step 5.

After checking the logs, the following was found:

An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown.  Additional exception information: Cannot start service c2wts on computer '.'.
System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot start service c2wts on computer '.'. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: %1 is not a valid Win32 application

I have seen a number of similar issues regarding the c2wts service, but most of those have been related to timing out issues. If anyone has any advice on how to get past this problem, it would be appreciated.

Cannot delete site columns even after removing all references

Hi

We currently have a SharePoint 2010 SP1 setup in our environments and are having a problem in removing a couple of site columns that were added in by a third party product. Despite best efforts this has not been possible and we are hoping to get some advice around this.

Here's a brief overview of the issue:

  1. We have two Site level columns that we are trying to delete, at the root site level. But when we try to delete them, we get the message (Site columns which are included in content types cannot be deleted. Remove all references to this site column prior to deleting it).
  2. We have run powershell scripts to ensure that these columns are not part of any List, Web or Content Type in the entire site structure and have also cleaned out the recycle bin (site and admin bin) to try and remove any existing references. We have also ensured that these columns are not marked as hidden, read-only, or sealed.
  3. We have also tried deleting this through SharePoint Manager but get the same result.
  4. The only possible explanation seems to be that there must be orphaned references in the database. (we have seen references to similar cases elsewhere and indeed we are seeing some entries in the DB for these fields, that are not visible in the UI or when querying through PowerShell). However for obvious reasons, we do not want to modify the SP database !

Any advice on how to track such missing references, or what can be done to delete a column in such a case, would be much appreciated !

Do let me know if you need any further details.

Thanks

Feature is not accessible when creating site from Template

Can someone help with this. I have created a site from a template. The site was not a Publishing site and there are no publishing features enabled on the site.

The problem is when I try to create a site using the template, i get the following error message.

The field specified with name Project_x0020_Phase and ID {cedc6068-56d0-4f2c-ad96-c9728bd117d8} is not accessible or does not exist.

Looking in the ULS logs I see this:

The element of type 'ListInstance' for feature 'LTTestListInstances' (id: 91cec7f9-8017-48b6-b3cc-abad912e93b7) threw an exception during activation: The field specified with name Project_x0020_Phase and ID {cedc6068-56d0-4f2c-ad96-c9728bd117d8} is not accessible or does not exist.

The name of the template is LTTest.

Does anyone have any idea on how I can find out what field is giving me this error and how I can fix this?

SP 2010 and Office 365 C2R owssupp.dll or interceptor.dll issues

$

Hello,

At my company we're having compatibility issues after upgrading ourWindows 7 SP1 64-bit NL-NL laptops to Internet Explorer 11 and Office 365 ProPlus Click-to-Run32-bit NL-NL.

Our initial notebook configuration had Internet Explorer 9, Office 2007 ProPlus and Lync Basic 2013 installed.

The upgrade path exists of deleting Office 2007 and Lync Basic 2013, installing the Office 365 Click-to-Run and letting Internet Explorer update via the Windows Updates

The issues we experience happen between ourSharePoint 2010 On Premise and the SharePoint Online environment.

While we had no issues before, now, when trying to edit a document on SharePoint 2010 On Premise we get the message: "A Microsoft SharePoint Foundation compatible application could not be found to edit the document"

Doing some digging around online a lot of topics point to the ‘owssupp.dll’ as a possible culprit but to no avail we tried a number of suggested solutions, listed below. Some of these solutions might propably work for the Office 2013 MSI installation but none of them seem to apply to the Click-to-Run version.

- Repair Office (Fast and Online)

- Delete and reinstall Office

- Switch in IE between 32 and 64 bit mode but this isnot possible with Internet Explorer 11

- Tried the Microsoft Hotfix KB2726997 but got the message that itdoes not apply to our system.

- Check registry references if owssupp.dll points to Office 15

- Manually re-register owssupp.dll

- Replaced owssupp.dll by the Office 2007 version

- Checked if all SharePoint add-ons in Internet Explorer were enabled

-> 'Sharepoint OpenDocuments Class' refers to interceptor.dllnot owssupp.dll

- Check/Install “Microsoft Sharepoint Foundation Support”.. Click-to-Run doesn’t have that option

- Create registry keys in:  HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Components\55EAFA0B8A4403B428FDE038B252C621

What there should be: HKCR\Installer\Components\55EAFA0B8A4403B428FDE038B252C621\x86\1033What should be added: HKCR\Installer\Components\55EAFA0B8A4403B428FDE038B252C621\x86\1043

But the 55EAFA0B8A4403B428FDE038B252C621-key doesn't exist with the Click-to-Run version and manually creating it doesn’t help

- Put the site in the 'Intranet Zone'

- Put the site in the 'Trusted Sites' list (prodsharepoint.kindengezin.be)         -> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMapKey                    -> *.kindengezin.be (REG_SZ, Data: 1)

- Check if our SharePoint 2010 On Premis environment is completely up-to-date

- CreateC:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office 15\ and placed the owsupp.dll in it; in case SharePoint would be looking for it in the wrong place;        -> Keep in mind that the folder structure with Office 365 ProPlus Click-to-Run is different than the 'normal' Office 2013 as the owssupp.dll is now located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\owssupp.dll

- Checked if our Firewall settings are up to date (IP-ranges and other settings)

The test where I got it towork, but is not a solution in my personal opinion is: Open the Lync Basic 2013 setup and only checkSupport for Microsoft SharePoint Foundation

In your Programs and Features list you now have 2 entries: Microsoft Lync Basic 2013 Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus – nl-nl

I do not trust this “solution” as I do not know the future consequences of this “solution” in terms of updates or functionality.

Him

I'm administering a SP2010 farm.
On the WFE application log I  see lots of these Event ID:1309 Event Code: 3005.
I have no idea how to start troubleshooting this.
I've already setup DebugDiag but it doesn't capture anything when this event occurs; even though when it does happen SP is dwown and displays a big Server Application error.

Would you guys have any idea what could cause this and if not how I can start troubleshooting?

Thanks in advance

SharePoint 2010 Missing Workflow Timer Job

$

My client has a SharePoint Server 2010 farm.

Upon investigating performance issues I found that the workflows that had been created were not executing. The cause - the timer job definition for "workflow" (also called "job-workflow") is missing from the timer job definition list.

I do not know when this occurred.

There is no backup of the configuration database.

How do I recover/reinstall/recreate this timer job?

Sudden Page Rendering Issues with SharePoint 2010 Central Admin and Web Applications

$

We are having page rendering issues on both our SharePoint 2010 Enterprise CA App and our Web App on port 80 on multiple servers. These are development VMs that were recently patched, and some work correctly and some do not, but all received the same Windows 2008 R2 patches and SharePoint patches. We are also in the middle of applying DISA STIGs but have been diligently testing after applying each STIG and/or patch. We just came in one day and the sites all looked messed up. There are no errors in the ULS logs or the IIS trace logs, so that is less than helpful. Permissions, security policies, IIS, etc. have not changed. Screenshot looks exactly as below (this is CA but the other web apps look similar). Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

User Profile Sync & Fim working but, sync success but no users in sharepoint

$

Hi guys, after a bit of trauma getting the UPS started its working now and I have created a connection between sharepoint (which lives in a totaly seprate forest to our users) and the forest with the users to be imported.

When I start a full sync with users and groups I can see everything working in the miiclient with no errors, I can see, metaverse search shows my active directory users ok but whats not hapening is the users don't look like their being create in sharepoint, I still have a number of profile count of 5 the same as when I started, i've searched to double check, I should have 3 simon's and I only have my account which is manual add to sharepoint.

Looking at the miiclient tool I can see the following profiles being run:

DS_FULLIMPORT

DSFULLSYNC

DS_EXPORT

DS_DELTAIMPORT

looking at the first full sync I can see 136 projections, 78 disconnectors, 136 connectors with flow updates and under outbound syncronisation I can see 135 Provisioning adds

fullimport had 214 adds under staging and under discovery 99 filtered deletions and 300 filtered objects

dsexport nothing.

any new full syncs that I run now have about 175 connectors without flow updates, 67 export attribute flow, 175 provisioning adds and 175 provisioning disconnects which I assume is because the old stuff is droped and recreated.

Looking at the ULS Viewer and filtering for profile in category I can see the following entries with this one strange error between them, i've tried the rebuilding the filesystem cache but no joy there.

Configuration is sharepoint is all on a single box, databases on another box, sharepoint runs in a different forest to the forest with all our users but like I said all issues on this front have been overcome, I have a mysite for my user but non of the AD details have been populated by the person mapping after sync, please help me :(

Edit: Serve ris running the December CU that is the first and only update i've applied, the ups was setup before the update but the fim provisioning only worked after the update, hope this helps find me a solution.

Duplicate Results in People Search

Hello all,

I am having an issue with People Search in SharePoint 2010 Search. When I perform a search on the 'People' Scope, I am getting duplicate results. (I do not get duplicate results when searching content)

I have tried the 'Index Reset' option, and I DO NOT recrawl, however, after 'deleting', I perform another people search and still return duplicates eventhough I supposedly deleted the index (which tells me the index is NOT being deleted).

Two questions:

How do I truly delete the index?

Why am I receiving duplicate results for the people scope?

Hi,

Can anyone please suggest me is this good practice to keep old service accounts even after migration to sharepoint 2013 from 2010?

Please provide me reference to the post (Where Clearly explained) if possible so that i will try to explain to my client using this as a proof for better understanding regarding service accounts reuse in new sharepoint 2013 farm.

Upgrade content database without Service application upgrade

Hi

I am in a process of upgrading content database but not any of those service applications. Can I provision new SharePoint 2013 services and associate with my upgraded content database? I know User profile services, search services, excel services were extensively used in SP 2010 but its all standard configuration and I believe the new services should support the content database upgrade upgrade in SP 2013, Is this correct? Are their any known/compatibility issues if I do not upgrade service applications?

Many thanks

I need to migrate Sharepoint, which way should I go?

I have a Sharepoint 2010 farm with 2 frontend server and 2 backend server.

We have a huge problem because some old admin deleted the msi files located on winsxs folder in all 4 servers. Im unable to install any SharePoint service pack and Microsoft dont support this kind of problem.

I need to rebuild my entire installation in new servers, but i dont know if i should gradually add servers to the farm and remove the old ones or if I should backup everything and restore it elsewhere. I know there are probably pro and cons in each option, but unfortunately im still learning how SharePoint work. (My company signed a new contract for SharePoint support and dont help the team to learn to support the tool)

Any help is appreciated. Sorry for my bad english.

Re-adding UPS Sychronization Connection

$

I have a SharePoint 2010 User Profile Service Sychronization service that has acted up in the past and now I find that it's flat out refused to start. I did some investigating and found that somehow the User Profile Service service application has lost its Synchonization connections; there are none showing up in the Synchronization connection list. I plan to do the following:

1.Delete and recreate the User Profile Service service application using the current UPS databases.

2.Create a new synchronization connection.

I don't want users to lose their Mysite data. My question is, if I recreate a new connection, will this affect the current users' data?
