security token service not available

In health analyzer there is a warning "security token service not available". I had tried a lot of options:

- Checked if security service pool is running

- Reprovisioned all services

- Provisioned Service Host Config

- Checked service pool account, it have all necessary permissions

- Replaced sts web.config

Read most popular topics about this problem:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/sykhad-msft/archive/2012/02/25/sharepoint-2010-nailing-the-error-quot-the-security-token-service-is-unavailable-quot.aspx

http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/82601/the-security-token-service-is-unavailable

Still no success. When i try to browse http://localhost:32843/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc i receive http 500, in iis trace log i see

ErrorDescription="Could not find "SharePoint14Module""

ModuleName="IIS Web Core", Notification="BEGIN_REQUEST", HttpStatus="500", HttpReason="Internal Server Error", HttpSubStatus="0", ErrorCode="File not found. (0x80070002)", ConfigExceptionInfo=""

Because of this problem i can't run user profile sync service and metadata service, in uls i always receive next error:

Claims Authentication - An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: The server did not provide a meaningful reply; this might be caused by a contract mismatch, a premature session shutdown or an internal server error

By the way users have no problems with login to sharepoint portal.

any help appreciated

Sharepoint Calendar Editing Attachments

Hi,

My issue is stemming from using office 365, Outlook 2013 and Sharepoint 2010.

One department at my company use calendars a lot to share files and edit them, using public folders was the old way for them to do this.

We are trying to migrate all offices and departments to sharepoint for their calendars.

However when editing the file and saving the appoinment i get the below error

Task 'SharePoint' reported error (0x00000000) - Failed to copy one or more items because some are not compatible with SharePoint. The failed items were moved to your Local Failures folder and replaced with copies from the server. If you need assistance troubleshooting items in your Local Failures folder, a Help topic is available at the following address: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=70300. For details, see the log file .'

This occurs frequently.

I have tried:

Giving permissions of full control on the departments calendar (No change)

Creating a new calendar with all recurrences and files made from scratch (No change)

Importing old data from the public folders calendar (no change)

I can't seem to find anyone else having this problem, and would like to know if this is a problem that persists into Sharepoint 2013?

Many Thanks

SharePoint Purchase Order List

Hi All,

I want to develop small purchase order system in sharepoint. I already started working on this but I stuck in below points where the purchased Qty is comming on different dates. For example :-

Order Qty = 100, Purchased Qty (Qty deliverd to godown more than one time in three different date like 20+20+60=100).

Now the list which I've created it's strait forward like below :-

Order Date,Purchased Date, Order Qty, Purchased Qty,Balance Qty (calculated),Status(Pending / Completed)

For this particular scenario the Qty was purchased in three lots so not sure how to archive this.

Please advice. Also if you have some link or steps please provide

We keep getting the following error on our SP production farm: Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Datasheet view not showing all items

SP2010.

Web app, claims based auth, ntlm.
All account are in the domain AD.
TMG

A site consisting of standard libraries and lists.

If we are on VPN or internal network, the problem does not occur.

If we are on an external network (through the TMG), the following happens when we use datasheet view:
Only the first 100 items are shown. No error is thrown to the end user. It appears to be only 100 items in the list.

This happens whether you are authenticated as a normal Contribute account, or as a site collection administrator account.

If I try this at home, without VPN, the problem occurs. If I then connect using VPN and hit F5 in IE, all items are shown. Without changing the view or anything else. Refresh is enough...

I have investigated the event logs, and nothing obvious is explaining this behavior. Then I turned to the ULS logs.
The following error is logged only when I am on external network:
w3wp.exe (0x105C)                      0x0684 SharePoint Foundation         Claims Authentication        g220UnexpectedNo windows identity for domain\user

This error is not library/list-specific, nor site-specific.
The lists are not huge - it happens to lists and libraries containing 300 items as well as 1300 items.

I have monitored the TMG logs, and there is no error.

I have tried to figure out if this has anything to do with claims and tmg. But I have not found anything which could explain this problem/behavior.

Claims to Windows Token is started on both WFEs.

TMG is routing the traffic to a hardware NLB (Kemp), which divides the traffic to the two WFEs.

TMG is listening to both http and https. http is automatically switched to https.

If I am on an external network, and I am experiencing this behavior, then I switch to VPN, the url is still https. If I hit F5, the problem disappears. So https on VPN does not generate this behavior.

Still reading? Still confused? Join the club. I am out of ideas. I have been knocking on every door (it feels like that), but no one can explain.

ANY suggestion is highly appreciated. I am totally stressed out, annoyed and fed up.

Please, you wonderful SP-gurus, help me!!

Silje

Daily 5586 Database Error

$

Hello SharePoint Fam,

I have been noticing a 5586 Database error each night between 1am-4am and it looks like maybe the SQL server goes down or the network connection, right after that error a 6398 error comes next.  Where could I start looking to see where this error is coming from?  Maybe a monitor or something on the SQL server to see if there is indeed a network outage each night?

Thanks N Advance

How to look up Sharepoint security updates on the server

$

We had a security audit of our Sharepoint systems and here is one of the items they found:

Vulnerability in Microsoft Word Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2780642).  I looked at this security bulletin and the only two items that applied to our system were: KB2760405, KB2687412.

After the security audit, I applied SP2 to our Sharepoint Server 2010 SP1 system.  Then, I tried to apply the updates in  KB2760405, KB2687412 but in both cases, got a message that this update is already applied to our system.

My question is: where can I look up what Sharepoint updates are applied to our system?  I looked in Central Admin->Upgrade and Migration->Check Production and Patch installation status.  I dont' see KB2760405, KB2687412 listed there.  Did these two updates get installed as part of SP2.  If so, I would still like to know if there is any command or place on the Sharepoint server where I can look up which Sharepoint (not windows) updates are installed.

My second question is: where I can find a full list of all the KB security updates that were part of SP2?  The SP2 details page says that SP2 includes "All the public updates that were released through May 2013 and all the cumulative updates that were released through April 2013".  That's very generic.  Is there some place to actually get the full list of all updates included in SP2?

thanks

Good Morning SharePoint Fam,

While I was out for some months, someone installed Office Web Apps into our current SP environment and installed it on the App server but not web server.  What is the best way to handle this to get SharePoint to stop alerting about "Office Web Apps" missing from Web Server.  Very small environment, One web, one app, one db server, Do i totally remove and start from scratch and make sure it's deployed to both servers and do psconfig?  Thanks n advance for any help

SharePoint timer service getting terminated after I joined a new server to an existing farm.

Hello guys, hope you are doing well.

I recently added a new server to my existing server farm set up containing 2 servers. In all, I now have three servers in my farm.

I am observing an System event error related with SharePoint timer service getting unexpectedly terminated. Event ID - 7031.

I have read a lot of blogs around this issue and I believe that the probable solution could be to try clearing SharePoint Configuration Cache and see if that resolves the issue.

I am going to try to soon but in the meanwhile I would like to know if anyone has any other suggestions to resolve this or if there is anything else that I can consider checking? ULS logs did not help much in my case.

On a side note, I have also observed that if I stop the user profile service on the newly added server, the event error stops getting logged in the new server but at the same time the event error can be seen on the other server where the User profile synchronization service is running.

Any help is welcome!!

Thanks!

Internet site servers physical or vitual

I have a quick question for experts:

1. For a heavily accessed site developed on top of SharePoint 2010, approximately user count of 2000 Concurrent users how many wfe & app servers would be sufficient? Only search & web analytics required on app servers.

2. Should all servers be physical or virtual? or mix of both like SQL physical & other virtual.

3. what other measures for optimum performance.

Permissions Checker

We have several web applications, and one of them uses claims with forms based authentication. In that claims based web application, when I use the permissions checker, I get this.

Also when I check the permissions for a user that is a member of and AD group, permissions checker returns none. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks

Impact of new proxy file in sharepoint

$

Hi Team,

Due to the closure of our company's existing AT&T Internet firewall and filtering service, CISCO Scansafe, a new proxy solution has been sourced through AT&T using a hosted service from Bluecoat.

A new proxy file has been provided which should replace the existing Proxy_company.pac files on each managed client.
The proxy pac file WPAD should also be replaced with the file renaming the file as required to ensure the IE automatic proxy configuration works with  the new configuration.

New pac file version is 1.0.10

We are using sharepoint 2010.

Please let us know if this will have impact on the sharepoint server.

Appreciate your response at the earliest.

Thanks for your time.

PassPhrase Replication Problem

Hi,

Recently, we needed to add a new server in our farm. The SharePoint Wizard asks us a passphrase that we didn't have... So we change it with PowerShell. After this operation, we could integrate the new server in the farm and everything seems to be OK.

Unfortunately, the SharePoint 2010 Timer Service was in error on one of our server in the farm. The Master Passphrase Deployment job has not run on this server and now, he didn't have the last PassPhrase. Solution deployment failed on this server and some operations are not available.

We try to fix this problem by running the Set-SPPassPhrase with -LocalServerOnly parameter on this server but we have an error message:

$passphrase=ConvertTo-SecureString -asPlainText -Force
Set-SPPassPhrase -PassPhrase $passphrase -LocalServerOnly
Set-SPPassPhrase : Error during decryption. Ensure the passphrase is correct.

In the ULS Logs we found this error:

Decryption failed with error: 0  at     at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPCredentialManager.DecryptWithKey(Byte[] rgbEncryptedPassphrase, Byte[] rgbKey)      at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPCredentialManager.set_MasterKey(Byte[] value)      at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPCredentialManager.CreateMasterKey(Boolean generateKeyIfNeeded, SecureString sstrPassphrase, Boolean localOnly)      at Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell.SPCmdletSetPassPhrase.InternalProcessRecord()      at Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell.SPCmdlet.ProcessRecord()      at System.Management.Automation.CommandProcessor.ProcessRecord()     at System.Management.Automation.CommandProcessorBase.DoExecute()

We also tried to change the passphrase on the entire farm again but when the replication job run on this server, we have this message in the Event Viewer:

The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPMasterPassphraseDeploymentJobDefinition (ID 072bcb57-fabb-4136-83cc-3c5607c56d5d) threw an exception. More information is included below.
Error during decryption. System error code 0.

And we have this ULS message:

Decryption failed with error: 0 at at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPCredentialManager.DecryptWithKey(Byte[] rgbEncryptedPassphrase, Byte[] rgbKey)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPMasterPassphraseDeploymentJobDefinition.Execute(Guid targetInstanceId)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPTimerJobInvokeInternal.Invoke(SPJobDefinition jd, Guid targetInstanceId, Boolean isTimerService, Int32& result)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPTimerJobInvoke.Invoke(TimerJobExecuteData& data, Int32& result)         0cce58bf-a725-406a-b232-9cdf14fc1fde

Any Ideas ? Thanks in advance for your help.

Some users are not able to login to the FBA site configured using Active Directory

Hi,

We have created a web application with Form based authentication using Active Directory.

For membership provider we are using following entry :

<add name="ADMembershipProvider" type="Microsoft.Office.Server.Security.LdapMembershipProvider, Microsoft.Office.Server, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" server="domain controller" useSSL="false" userDNAttribute="displayName" useDNAttribute="true" userNameAttribute="cn" userContainer="user container" userObjectClass="person" userFilter="(ObjectClass=person)" scope="Subtree" otherRequiredUserAttributes="sn,givenname,cn" />

and for role provider following entry :

<add name="ADRoleProvider" type="Microsoft.Office.Server.Security.LdapRoleProvider, Microsoft.Office.Server, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" server="domain controller" useSSL="false" groupContainer="user container" groupNameAttribute="cn" groupNameAlternateSearchAttribute="samAccountName" groupMemberAttribute="member" userNameAttribute="sAMAccountName" dnAttribute="distinguishedName" groupFilter="(ObjectClass=group)" userFilter="(ObjectClass=person)" scope="Subtree" otherRequiredUserAttributes="sn,givenname,cn" />

These entries are added to all the three web.config files. But some users are able to login to the site while some are not. Users who are not able to login to this site can successfully login to other windows based web applications, their accounts are neither locked nor disabled but still they are not able to login.

Please help!!
