User Profile Services - Sync Connection disappearing after a few days - "Moss MA not found"

Hi,

This may sound like a common problem but i can't seem to find a solution.

I recently installed a SharePoint 2010 farm. The farm is currently SP1, Aug12 CU.

I created the user profile service application without any problems and created a connection, sync worked...everything was fine. Few days after, i noticed the connection disappeared! I tried recreating it but i got the above error. Tried deleting the SA and recreating it but still the same.

I checked everything:

- FIM services are started

- User profile services (both) are started

- It is not an AD connection timeout (error comes up in a second and containers populate just fine)

- All permissions were given correctly (keep in mind this has worked before)

- Tried updating to the Aug12 CU

Then i remembered i installed the farm with the sql servers mapped with FQDN instead of NETBIOS or Alias.

That led me to try to enable netbios on the SA via PowerShell but to no avail.

So basically my question is...is there anything i can do or is re installing the farm the only solution?

sharepoint 2010 custom 404 page not working

I did try to configure a custom 404 page for sp2010 publishing site.

Based on this article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941329/en-us)

I did add a simple html file (sps404test.html) to this folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033
This is the content of the 404 file

With sp2010-powershell I try to set the custom 404 with these commands (no errors resturned)

$webapp =Get-SPWebApplication http://mytestsite
$webapp.FileNotFoundPage = "sps404test.html"
$webapp.update()

this command allows me to check that the filenotfoundpage returns my test page
(Get-SPWebApplication http://mytestsite).FileNotFoundPage

However... i still receive the default 404 page from sharepoint (even after app pool recycle)

I searched for interference with the web.config customErrors tag, but no succes.

Any help is welcome, thx

SharePoint 2010 > BranchCache > Client: does it work backwards?

Hello,

There are some articles in Internet about SharePoint 2010 and BranchCache. I understand how it works (at least at some degree...) when a client retrieves a document from a server, but don't quite understand if it works in the opposite direction. Just to make sure:

  1. A client opens a file from a SharePoint server
  2. The Server points the client to a BranchCache server (assuming the file exists on the BranchCache on the client's site)
  3. The client gets the file from the BranchCache.
  4. He changes it and uploads to the server ...

What happens next? Does the client uploads the file to the BrachCache instead and the BranchCache server uploads it to the Sharepoint server? Or the client uploads it straight to the SharePoint server?

Sharepoint crawl fails with Access Denied if file has NTFS hidden data streams

Hi there,

I am currently operating a Microsoft Search Server 2010 SP1 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 system, which crawls several content sources. I noticed recently, that the search indexer account (which has Read-permissions on all files) fails to index certain files of all kind of file types (PDF, Doc, etc.).

The error message: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

As I said - permissions are correctly set and effective. I noticed, that all these files have either the NTFS data stream:Zone.Identifier:$DATA  26 (the Attachment Manager block-feature of IE / Windows 7) or other strange NTFS streams.

I do not think, that an index account should be prevented by these kinds of security mechanisms and am currently searching for a solution. Up to 10% of all my files have correct NTFS permissions, but cannot be indexed...

Sharepoint 2010 - Double Toplink Navigation and Home Link is Missing

Hi everyone

I have given permission on my quick launch using the navigation page, but after i edit it and deactivate the "Sharepoint Server Publishing Infrastructure" on the site collection, the toplink became double and home link is missing, what should i do to get this back to normal?

Move SharePoint 2010 Farm to New Server

My company uses SharePoint 2010 portal and it is used by more than 3500+ users worldwide. We are planning to move the Farm to another physical location due to end of lease at current location. The Farm is running on Virtualized environment(VMWARE).

We have the following constraints:

  1. Content Database size is 200+ GB(all in one site collection) and copying files will take many days. so backup and restore or platform backup is ruled out in my situation.
  2. It's very time critical and we want to have a minimum downtime and we only have 2 days to complete the process so that Businesses across the regions are not affected by this change.

I'm considering the following approach.

  1. Split content databases in to 8 site collection and reduce the Core Database size to around 30GB.
  2. Clone WFE and App server and move to new location.
  3. Install SQL Server at new location
  4. Perform Move all database approach as mentioned in this article and join the cloned WFE and App Server. This will create a fully functional SharePoint Farm. This step is for test purpose only to check if this approach will work or not.
  5. Configure DNS entries.

Will the above mentioned approach work?

I'm sure many would have come across similar situation.

What would be the best practices or Microsoft recommended approach/solution?

Import WSS 3.0 content database to SPSItesubscription

Hello,

I'm using SharePoint in multi-tenant mode with spsitesubscription and everything working.

I would like to import wss 3.0 content database to my SharePoint environment but i need to import it into a site subscription (to keep multi tenant mode "on)

Is there a way to do something like that ?

Hi

Is it possible to take a sharepoint 2010 custom list that currently contains 170 rows of data and convert it into a 'master - detail' form (which would be more user friendly)?

I looked around but did not see a solution so any detail would help.

Managed meta data synonyms for search

I am creating a term set.

Some of my terms have multiple names so I am using synonyms.

To give a bad example if my term was "Everything Everywhere" my synonyms would be "Orange" and "Hutchinson Telecom" - the previous names for the company.

When indexing the user types "Orange" and "Everything Everywhere" is recommended - fantastic.

The problem is that this does not work for retrieval.

If I search for Orange - nothing.

If I switch on meta data navigation on the library my synonyms are nowhere to be seem.

My question is am I seeing the expected behaviour and how is this issue worked through since most term sets in my experience will have this type of lifecycle.

move SharePoint site to different location within same site collection by editing ServerRelativeUrl

I wonder if this is a correct approach when it comes to move a sharepoint site within the same site collection in SharePoint 2010 Foundation. Since Foundation has no Publishing Service this can not be acchieved via GUI from what I know.

We have the requirement for moving sharepoint sites from time to time within the same site collection like there is the following structure:

http://sharepoint/mx/sales - as the Site Collection sales

https://sharepoint/mx/sales/prospects - subsite prospects

https://sharepoint/mx/sales/customers - subsite customers

There is at the beginging always a prospect like https://sharepoint/mx/sales/prospects/customer1. Once this hopefully becomes a custmer it should be moved to https://sharepoint/mx/sales/customers/customer1. I could do an export/import via stdadm or eventually save the site as  template and create a new site in the /customers/ area based on this template( with included content). But based on the article described here: http://www.sharepointpanda.com/2012/01/moving-a-sharepoint-2010-sub-site-within-a-site-collection/ it can be achived with Sharempoint Manager by simply editing the path of the attribute ServerRelativeUrl.

I did this for a test-site, at a first glance it worked. But I wonder if there is anything in the background which screws up my structure at some point? Or is this a feasible solution in order to solve my issue.

Hi Friends Yesterday i was facing a problem in sharepoint. I was done a application page with SPGridview and some S.P controls in vs-2010. some javascript errors are occured in the application page but at the same time the same code is working in visual webpart. Friends anybody know solution for  this problem?.

This is in the general application settings for the web application.

So essentially this means that the record center is web application scoped.

In our current configuration one web application is shared by several departments.  Each of those departments will have it's own record centre. 

So using the above configuration is confusing because the user will see multiple send to connections.

Does this means that we should split each department out to it's own web application OR is there another way to achieve this.  i.e. a way to specify the send to record centre link on a site collection basis.

Workflow stuck in starting state after applying SharePoint 2010 CU December 2012

I have custom visual studio workflow which are associated with Custom content type. workflow gets triggered automatically when a file is uploaded to SharePoint. Everything was working fine till when i apply the following CU

After applying this my workflow get stuck in "Starting" state.

No error were logged in 14 hive logs.

Hello Community,

I have a question regarding redirecting.

Is it possible redirect a subdomain like domainA.com/160years to domainB.com/pages/160years.aspx (SharePoint site)

Using DNS records like cname..
On domainB.com i'm using IIS7 if that matters...

Do I need to configure IIS URL Rewriting?

Adding to a task list - User does not exist or is not unique

We have SharePoint 2010 with a single web server front end and another server as the SQL server.  When trying to add a task to a list or an announcement to a page, users are getting the error, "The user does not exist or is not unique."

I have searched diligently for an answer, but cannot find anything about this with regards to users getting the error.

Sharepoint foundation 2010: Excel documents opening issue in browser

Hi  all,

I have an issue with data not loading in the excel web apps for my extranet site.  I am using Sharepoint foundation 2010.

The other documents word and powerpoint opens correctly in web app(in browser) but for excel it start laoding ... but it keep on loading infinitely.

Can anybody guide me for the same?

how to use the same DB for 2 Site Collections

hi

i am having 1 content DB and a site collection

now i need to have the same site collection in another site collection(2 copies of 1 site collection)

i tried to implement the content deployment mode but some error was thrown

i also tried to copy the Content DB into a new DB and created a WebApp this was done but when i try to open the site it is giving error.

Hi,

I have created a Item event reciver which I bound to issue list using feature reciver.

Event reciver contains following Events

1. ItemAdding

2. ItemAdded

3. ItemUpdated

But here is a strange behavior I never seen before.

Following event is logged everyday at 2 AM and 7 AM even on saturday sunday.
