Any implications to changing the search index deletion policy?

$
0
0

Hi,

Our users are requesting to modify the crawl index deletion policy values (ErrorDeleteCountAllowed,ErrorDeleteIntervalAllowed, ErrorDeleteAllowed,ErrorIntervalAllowed etc...) to smaller values, as they feel that the default timeframe is too long.

Are there any implications in modifying these values? What else we have to consider before changing these values? Has any one changed these values in their farm and were there any consequences?

These policies existed in SP2007 and there were no way to change them. However, in SP2010, users have found that they can be modified and are requesting to do so.

Thanks in advance for any response.

Dear All

I have an Eventlog Errormessage that I cannot resolve. The strange thing is, that I cannot found a problem with the excel service itself. Also it not appears during a crawl or another known scheduled tasks.

Our Environment is a full virtual SharePoint 2010 SP1 Enterprise Server with 2 Front End Servers and one SQL 2008 R2 Server.

Event ID: 5244
Source: Excel Services Application
User: Service User responsible for Application Pool for Excel Services

Message:
Unexpected error when trying to access service settings in the configuration database. Make sure the proxy for this service application is a member of the default proxy group for the active web application.Error = The SharePoint farm has not been provisioned properly..

30.01.2013 - 10:01:05

I have found similar forum posts, but not one with the "Error = The SharePoint farm has not been provisioned properly.."
I already tried to run the SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard. This runs to the end without any problems.

Do you have any ideas how to resolve this?

SharePoint Audit Log Report - File Download Event

$

Hi

Environment: SharePoint 2010

I've been trying to find out if the audit log reports treats viewing and downloading a file as the same action. I ran a custom report, ticked the "<label for="CheckBoxAuditView">Opening or downloading documents, viewing items in lists, or viewing item properties</label>" events, but in the report the only event is "View". I have a feeling that from SharePoint's of view, it does not know what action a user has taken after a file has been opened. Technically as soon as you open a file, it's considered a "download" already, that's why there's only the "view" event in the report, is that correct?

If someone can confirm this that'd be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Rick

Sharepoint User Profile Sync with SQL Authentication

Hi,

If SharePoint 2010 User Profile Sync with SQL Authentication NOT supported, then can we better declare this option as totally not fit for the SharePoint?

Businesses tend to use MySite and due to topology reasons (Internal domain SQL Server and external domain SharePoint in DMZ) forced to use SQL Authentication.

If anyone made 'User Profile Sync with SQL Authentication' possible, please give us the solution.

Many thanks,

Target Audience > Not recognizing AD Groups???

Hi, I use SharePoint 2010.

I set up User Profiles,
Synchronization did not show any failures; shows a lot additions and updates.

1. Now when I add a target audience and try to add a rule where user is member of :Sales" then Sales group shows up with 0 members while there are 100's of users in AD under Sales group. If I go ahead and add this then I get this error:

Non-existent Membership group (3611DC50-CDFD-4F06-8132-3A84322D7D1D)

2. Many of the AD groups are not recognized at all.

Event log and ULS logs do not have any relevant errors.

Any clue what might be going wrong?

Thanks so much folks.

SharePoint 2010 Central Administration Page Error

$

Hi, I recently installed SharePoint 2010 on a Windows Server 2008 machine. After configuring using the configuration wizard, I tried to open the Central Administration page. When I opened up the Central Administration page, it was unusable. Instead of the usual page, I saw a mostly blank white page with a few links. At the bottom of the page, was an "Done with error" message, with what looked like several javascript errors (I could hit previous to see the rest of the errors). I don't see anything amiss in my IIS settings, and am unable to use the Central Admin site to administer any other changes. I tried uninstalling and re-installing, but that didn't work.

Has anyone experienced this before? What should I do to get the Central Admin page to function properly?

Workflow stuck in starting status

I have a workflow that uses a third party component to generate a PDF and save it in a SQL database. It does so by making an http request to gather the html that will be the content of the PDF.

I simply add and employee ID and a template ID into a SP list, and the workflow uses these on the query string of the url for the request to generate the PDF. It's quite simple really. If I paste 15, 20, or even up to say 35 items into a datasheet view of this list, the workflows kick off and everything is fine. I want to paste about 1800 though. When I do so, I get about 140 (this varies really) PDFs generated and then I have a bunch of them stuck in starting or pending or processing. It seems like something just crashes. The http request is to a custom sharepoint page, btw. The whole app is done in vs 2010.

This has not been tested on a server and perhaps I should go that route, but I wanted to get it working on my local Win7 environment first.

Any help would be grealtly appreciated.

Restore a lists column type to previous configuration

All,

I aaccidentally changed a lists type from Yes\No, which allowed user to check a box to a Choice column of yes\no values.   In the process I broke the code our developer created and would like to convert it back, but there is no option to do so.  So unless there are any suggestions to do this,  I'll need to perform a granular restore of the list from backup but would like to confirm this would restore the column type and the values that were previously added.  Any advice would be appreciated.

USER PROFILE SERVICE BREAKS TOP LEVEL SITE

I have an interesting dilemma.  My top level site (Home Page) works fine, that is until I create the User Profile Service Application.  Once I create that, I get the below message when trying to get to the home page:

An unexpected error has occurred.

Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation.

Correlation ID: 5d96fbf7-a3a6-4a84-824c-d80bd4677ed3

If I remove the service, the page comes up normally.

I pulled the log files and see this predominately throughout
An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: The reque

Any ideas, pulling my hair out here.

Cannot Add Second FE Server to SharePoint 2010 Farm

Hi folks

Well I thought I would add my problem to the others that are also experiencing this issue. I actually reported somthing similar to this forum in Feb 2010 when I was trying the beta version out.

I upgraded our WSS farm to SPFS 2010, the upgrade worked, well kinda. Basically our second WFE server would not join the farm after installing the 2010 binaries and runnng the configuration tool and it was complaining with the following error:

So I decided to create a new VM and install SPFS from scratch and attempt to join the farm. This still didn't work. So now I am at a stage where we are a front end server down and risking a service outage if problems are experienced on the sole WFE server. I am using the sharapoint farm admin account for the install and have checked and double checked everything.

I would be very happy if someone has a fix for this.

Thanks

Sharepoint 2010 Search Application - Cannot Delete

I've run into a serious issue with our SP2010 Search Service Application.  I attempted to delete the SSA yesterday via the CA GUI and the dialog just spun for hours.  I cancelled out of the dialog and the SSA still shows in CA.  When clicking on the SSA I get the following error under System Status :

I also attempted the PS command Remove-SPServiceApplication -Identity GUID with no luck (just sat there for hours) and the stsadm command stsadm -o deleteconfigurationobject -id GUID with no luck (just sat there for hours as well)

I am also getting multiple errors in the eventlog now for connectionstring type errors

Aggregated view of document sets?

$

I would like to create a view that will aggregate document sets (NOT the documents within them). Since the actual document sets have metadata attached to them that is of interest to the client to assist with tracking, I need to have a topical view of JUST the document sets.

I figured out how to do it with a Content Query Web Part, but it is very crude and extremely limited in what it shows. There are specific fields that I'd like to be able to show and sort, like you would with a regular web part. Can anyone provide me some guidance on how to properly do this? I am using SharePoint 2010 and also have access to SharePoint Designer 2010.

Thanks!

Stucked with NLB Sharepoint + NLB Service manager

$

Good day.

Need some help. Could not set up sharepoint farm work with NLB Service Manager cluster.

My configuration is:

1. scsm01.domain.loc - SCSM primary server + Web Content Server

2. scsm02.domain.loc - SCSM additional server + Web Content Server

both of them are the members of NLB cluster - scsm.domain.loc

3. sps-web01.domain.loc, sps-web02.domain.loc - both are members of sps.domain.loc NLB Cluster.

Now i am trying to set up Sharepoint Web Parts for SCSM Web Portal.

1. I have started the installation of SCSM SharePoint Web Parts on sps-web01.domain.loc

2. In installation proccess i`ve told that Web content server is scsm.domain.loc

3. Installation completes successfully.

And now what i have.

1. If i am going to Sharepoint Central Admin Console i could see "Service Manager Portal"  web application withhttps://sps-web01.domain.loc URL address

2. So i am starting browser an going to https://sps-web01.domain.loc/smportal and everything fine, i am watching the SMPortal main page

3. If i am turning off one of SCSM Web Content Servers i am still watching this page, so the SCSM NLB (scsm.domain.loc) is working

The question is how to made the SharePoint Service Manager Protal works in NLB?

1. I could see "Service Manager Portal" on both servers (sps-web01, sps-web02) in IIS Console.

2.  If i am going to IIS console on sps-web01 and click Browse "Service Manager Portal" it shows me site but if i am going to sps-web02 and do the same - it shows me error "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

I think that i missconfigure something in IIS or in Sharepoint, but what? How to force sps-web02 to show me the "Service Manager Portal" Site?

Backup-Spsite always failing with HRESULT 0x80131904

Hi,

While backing up my Site Collection on SharePoint 2010 using PS CmdLet Backup-SPSite I was always landing up in the exception :

"Backup-SPSite : Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131904 At line:1 char:14 + Backup-SPSite <<<<  -Identity http://<<mySiteColl> -Path <<PathForBackupfile>>      + CategoryInfo         : InvalidData: (Microsoft.Share...mdletBackupSite:   SPCmdletBackupSite) [Backup-SPSite], SPException     + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell.SPCmdletBackupSite"

I have a farm with 2 WFE, 1 App Server, 1 DB Server. I am farm administrator and performing backup on my appServer using PowerShell (Backup-spsite). I have all the rights as administrator on all the machines / drives / databases.

Well, <<mySiteColl>> is more then 7GB in size. The Backup-spsite command runs for few mins and start the backup process till it reaches4.06 GB.I noticed that exactly at this size, it gets the exception mentioned above.

Kindly update me with your inputs.

Regards,

KF
