Currently, I am running sharepoint 2010 on Sql Server 2005. We are upgrading to sql 2012. Is there any steps or best practice I can follow.

Steps taken today:

First, I made a full farm backup and a snap shot of the server. Next, I install Sharepoint service pack 1 according to this reference (http://wellytonian.com/2011/07/sharepoint-2010-service-pack-1-installation-steps/ ). After install, I was able to run the sharepoint configuration wizard to confirm the update of service pack 1. One issue, I was having was viewing the web page after installing this service pack 1. I think the config file must of been updated that why I was getting this error.  Is there step I am missing after the update? Or am I suppose to move database to sql 2012 and then install service pack one?

I recently installed Windows Management Foundation for server support, but now I'm running into issues running SharePoint Utiltiies.  I understand the issue and I am able to use the following shortcut switches to run SharePoint 2010 Management Shell, but I am still facing obstacles running powershell_IS and SharePoint Diagnostic tools.  Has anyone jumped these hurdles?

Shortcut for SharePoint Management Shell:
C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\PowerShell.exe -version 2.0 -NoExit &"' C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\CONFIG\POWERSHELL\Registration\\sharepoint.ps1 ' "

Unfortunately, the version command switch is not available for PowerShell_ISE and running ISE from the shortcut above does not preserve the version selection.

SPDiag also lacks the version switch and results in this error:
Microsoft SharePoint is not supported with version 4.0.30319.296 of the Microsoft .Net Runtime.
I was unable to find any references to the Framework in the XML files for the application and there is no app config file.

Make it happen.

I am configured wiki categorizes however whenever user selects any category sharepoint display all pages related to that category with some different display. i.e. with Page symbol with no info. Now I need to change this display(Similar to any search result). or want to remove hyperlink.

something happened to my sharepoint 210 early saturday morning (possible update?) anyway was unable to log in, don't remember exact error. so i used my backup software adn rolled my server back to Thursday.  now i get:

I performed a backup/restore of a site collection which was reporting an incorrect total size of data consumed on the Storage Metrics page (_layouts/storman.aspx), however this did not fix the issue. I also performed a site export/import (deleting the prior site collection prior to importing) and this seemed to resolve the issue of not displaying the correct total size reported in storage metrics. However, this option is not desirable do to the fact not all facilities are restored (workflows, etc.)

My question is, What does an export/import do that would effect the size of the site collection in storman.aspx? Does it not move over audit info, or does it not move over specific tables? 

Any help in understanding what could be the culprit of storman.aspx reporting the wrong usage as opposed to an export/import would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'm trying to prepare for an upgrade to SharePoint 2010 and so I have run the Pre-Upgrade Checker via stsadm.  The error that I am receiving is as follows:

Issue : Unsupported SQL Server or unresponsive database

For information on the minimum required SQL Server versions and how to download them, see KB article 976215 in the rule article list at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=120257. 

I've followed the link, read the article and then spent a good half of my day trying to update the SQL server only to find out that each time everything was already up to date.  My SQL Server 2008 R2 server is currently at version 10.50.1600.1, which from what I have read is above what is required to move to SP2010.  As for the database being unresponsive, the SharePoint site displays fine and users are able to access it.

Could someone please help me to find a solution to this problem?  Thank you in advance.

I've run into a problem in mysite newsfeeds around confidential documents. The scenario is that the manager of HR has mysite colleagues and whenever he saves a document it gets tagged by some managed metadata columns and therefore shared on his colleagues' newsfeeds. Even though the documents are confidential and the users don't have permission to actually view them. But the title still appears, and that alone can give away too much about the subject of a sensitive document.

Is there a way to restrict newsfeeds from showing certain people's tagging or only showing documents to which someone has permissions?

We currently use an online backup solution which uses software called Assigra to backup the SharePoint server system state and the SharePoint SQL databases. 

However this isn't very good for easily restoring individual sites or document libraries.

Is System Centre Data Protection Manager the way forward? id be interested to know how other companies backup there SharePoint farms.

Please advise me on this..

Sporadically seeing this Correlation Error when I try to access the PowerPivotDataRefresh from the Secure Store Service.

ERROR

Secure Store Service did not performed the operation.

(I did not type that incorrectly. It does state "performed.")

Here are the 4 errors I see in the ULS logs when I get the Correlation Error. For whatever reason the error is hit or miss, probably due to the round robin failure:

Hello Everyone,

I have a peculiar issue where I (the administrator) nor my users can use the "Edit Form" in the library interface to change the properties of a Word (docx) file...

If I edit the file itself, then choose to display the Doc Information Panel, I can edit the property then save and it works just fine.

It is very strange to me that the Edit Form is not saving my changes from the Library interface.

Any help I can get here would be greatly appreciated!

SharePoint 2010 Foundation on Windows 2008 R2

So I am curious as to what would happen if I switch​ a managed account for one web application with another managed account (already registered and managing another web app) would there be any effects to users online, in the present? in the future? I have two web applications managed by their own registered managed account? I am having trouble using overlay calendars across web applications that are managed by different managed accounts When I try to overlay a calendar from another web app I get a internal error about that managed account failure to log in. Sharepoint does not seem to allow me to add extra managed accounts to a web application (am I wrong?) I figure the best way is to just bring both apps under the same mangaed accounts (its the same data and people across web apps) but I am tad worried what would happen to the web app that gets its account changed.

Any Help would be appreciated and forgive me if I posted to wrong forum, I thought I was.

I have a dev and a qa SharePoint 2010 server farm environment.   In my dev environment I have a search content source setup to crawl a series of public facing (non-sharepoint) web site.  The crawling works fine, no issues.

I recreated the exact same content source in my QA environment and when the crawl runs I get "Access Denied" errors for each of the web sites listed in the content sources.   I verified that I can access the sites by using a browser on the QA crawler server.

To try to debug the issue I loaded up fiddler on both the dev and qa environments.  Using a proxy configuration change I was able to watch the search crawler on the dev farm successfully crawl the public facing web sites.    With the same configuration on QA I saw that each web site returned a 401 access denied error.   

I looked into the http header of the request on dev and qa to see if there was any difference.   For some reason on the QA server the GET request being sent by the crawler includes an authorization header.  The dev request does not.

I have checked the content sources and crawl rules on both dev and qa; both servers are exactly the same.   Any ideas on why the crawler would be sending an invalid authentication header to a public facing website even when the site doesn't request any authentication information?   I thought an authorization header was only sent after the web server demanded it and had provided the types (ntlm, basic, etc...) that it supported back to the requestor.

I have a auth farm and a live farm that transfer content using the out of the box content deployment jobs in SharePoint. The jobs are working correctly but the changes are not showing up on the live farm because I have app fabric cache configured and the cache is not clearing right away.

How can I force the cache to clear after the content deployment job has finished running? I only want to clear the cache if something was moved over.

I know this is a long shot, but I have to ask.

I was asked to reorganize a SharePoint library of a large number of Excel documents. They were in a highly nested hierarchy of folders. I figured out a clever scheme to categorize everything according to metadata, rather than folder names. I used Group By to get the same order/grouping as people have in folders today.

However, after reviewing what I built with my customer, I discovered that he strongly prefers the visual layout of folders for his end-users.

Another point against using the "metadata" versus "folder" approach: I cannot figure out how to remove the column names from the Group By view, so everyone sees my "scaffolding." (I saw complex solutions out there which require XSL editing, which I can't do because there'd be no support for the solution once I handed it off.) With folders, you don't have that issue.

So what I'm wondering is...is there any way to make SharePoint be "folder pretty" but still actually be using metadata?

I feel sure there isn't, but I wanted to at least ask so I'd have a clear conscience when I reverted to folders.

My incoming mails to sharepoint lists library get stuck to drop folder. When i see ULS log view it shows

The Incoming E-Mail service has completed a batch.  The elapsed time was 00:00:00.  The service processed 0 message(s) in total.

Only thing is app pool for web application and sharepoint timer jobs are running under different account. Is that something to look at? SPtimer account has full access to the drop folder. I also increased the site quota by placing the limit in the quota thinking CU might have messed it up. Still its not working . Does anyone have any idea?
