Can I empty tempdb?

Hello SharePoint Family,

I have noticed a database file called tempdb that has grown bigger than normal.  It is currently at 15GB and I am wondering is this okay to totally truncate or empty somehow?  Last time this file shows modified was 6/25/2013.....can someone explain what exactly this DB is responsible for and what could happen if I was to remove this file?

Thanks so much n advance

Sharepoint 2013 on Windows Server 2012 - Only Central Admin page will open, site collections give error 404.

Hello!

As the title says I have installed Sharepoint 2013 on a Windows Server 2012 VM. Each time I run the setup it completes with all pre-reqs being installed and generates no errors. I went all the way through and created a site collection at the root ( / ), created the required DNS entries which ping successfully, but every time I try and open the site http://intranet.businessname.org I get a 404 error. It wont even open on the server itself. The only error I see in event viewer has to do with the STS application pool and I have made every change I could find googling this issue but it still wont open.

Patch fails to install due to built-in factory features

Hi,

I tried to patch a Sharepoint 2010 server, but this failed due to "corrupted features.". Which were OOTB by the way.

I now have a list of the suspect features. However, could I copy the features from another farm and attempt the patch integration again?

Thanks

SharePoint versioning in documents advice for older doc types

$

Hi, I've found that I can add the SharePoint version to a given Word (*.docx) file. This is using the method of Information Management Policy Settings and Word Quickparts.

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/67157526-f30f-4b44-97ed-131ba294ab60/how-to-attach-sharepoint-version-to-copied-document

I have a problems before I attempt to roll this out - most of the files in the document library are .doc extension types and they all currently have a few versions (e.g, v1.0, v2.0, v3.0). I would like to convert these files to .docx file types whilst maintaining the older versions if possible.

Does anybody know how I can do this please?

Error: The server returned a non-specific error when trying to get data from the data source

Hi All,

Intermittently(Data displaying fine and in a 2 or 3 minutes getting error. Again after 2minutes data were displaying.)  i am getting the below error in site home publishing page. This data form is located in page layout.

"Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible HTML editor such as Microsoft SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator."

At a time this issue occurred in Production, QA, UAT. These 3 environments have configured with third party data source. This form has been working for months without any issues. I am thinking that some changes done in our third party data source or third party data source network issues.

I checked with Logs, but i could not understand what is the main issue.

above logs i found in ULS.

When i open that Page Layout in designer "Data Form Webpart " displays the error as below.

Could anybody help me to find the error from above logs.

Problem with Topology service

Every once in a while on our web front ends we get this error.   no uhmc-sp-app01 has not been a part of this farm for quite some time.  It was at one time our "application" server (a physical server) , but since we have replace it with app02 and app03(virtual servers)  We went through the process of uninstalling sharepoint on that server and removing it through central admin and what not .. but it still appears that something references this server every once in a while .. and I think it has caused some erratic behavior at times.. random errors saving a form, random errors in search.. and the errors seem to coincide with this error (which could be my imagination) .. Any ideas how to get sharepoint to stop looking at that old server for topology services?

Hi,

And then i'm migrate SP2010 > SP2012, there are many missing webpart.

Example missing: 0b38cca7-0a5b-c334-66ea-1572d3d7f81a Type="Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.WebControls.OWACalandarPart"

I'm query by SQL Server Management Studio tool with webpart ID 0b38cca7-0a5b-c334-66ea-1572d3d7f81a and found that it's in tp_ZoneID MiddlerightZone

OK, it's missing webpart ? i'm open that site in SP2010 and Edit page, go to Middle Right Zone, not found OWACalendarPart !!?

then i'm open same site in SP2013 and Edit page, go to Middle Right Zone, not found OWACalendarPart too.

When it's not found in SP2010 page why it's missing in SP2013 ?

Help repairing category filtering in blog site upgraded from WSS 3.0

I messed up.  I touched the view settings in the categories on a blog site that was recently upgraded from WSS 3.0 to SPF 2010.  I'm able to find methods that look like they worked in WSS 3.0, but am not finding a way to repair this in SPF 2010.  The old way was to copy the ListViewXML section of the code from category.aspx from a newly created website over top of the broken one.  It doesn't look like the category.aspx has that section of code in the upgraded version.  Does anyone know a way to get the category filtering to work properly for a site that was upgraded?  Thank you.

SharePoint WFE: One stops working

On my SharePoint farm, I have two WFE.

OUr DNS is set so that http://intranet.mycompany.com feeds to our WFE.

Recently, within the past week and after 18 months of no problems, one of the WFE are not working as they should. So a user may hithttp://intranet.mycompnay.com and get sent to WFE1 or WFE2. For some reason WFE2 was not working. So some of our users were getting to sites and some were not.

I did an iisreset on WFE2. Checked the error logs and looked around for other errors that would lead me to a resolution. In the end, a reboot of WFE2 fixed the issue. Until it happened again four days later. Same symptoms and same resolution.

Is there something on the WFE that times out after a while, that i can check here?

Thanks

Unable to display the web part error - when try to insert an image in a content editor webpart

$

Hello everyone,

I ran into an issue and can't insert any image on content editor webparts in publishing sites. Error message shows in the UI (added a screenshot below) -

"Unable to display this web part. To troubleshoot this problem, open the web page in....". ULS logs show below errors but I'm not able to find any clue so far. Anyone has any suggestion what may have caused this?

Here are few facts / assumptions:

  • I can reproduce this issue in different subsites and in different farms.
  • Content databases where upgraded to SPS 2010 (from 2007).
  • Sites aren't visually upgraded but I've tried upgrading to 2010 look without any luck. Also tried creating new site all together.
  • This issue just started this week - seems like not directly related to the upgrade (which happened a month ago)
  • It almost seems to me the site hierarchy is corrupted somehow but I can navigate through the site content and structure without any issue.

Appreciate any feedback!

SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 SSRS add-in for Sharepoint 2010 upgrade from RTM

Hello,

What is the process for updating my 2008 R2 RTM SSRS Add-in for SharePoint to SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2?    It seems like I would need to re-install and re-configure my existing RTM configuration of this (I have 2008 R2 and SharePoint 2010 working in integrated mode already).

I found the download site but the instructions don't seem to address applying the service pack alone.

Thanks,
Sean

KB2817530 - SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server July 2013 Cumulative Update installation failed

Hi,

I tried to install the SharePoint 2010 Cumulative Update (July 2013 CU released on 7/10/2013) but get mixed result.

In the environment of SharePoint 2010 (SP1 + April 2013 CU) + SQL 2008 R2 + Office Web Apps + Project Server, the installation is successfully completed.

However, In the environment of SharePoint 2010 (SP1 + April 2013 CU) + SQL 2012 (SP1 + CU4) + Office Web Apps + Project Server + PowerPivot + SSRS integrated mode, the installation ended with a message "The installation of this package failed". No error registered in event log.

Does anyone have the same issue?  What is the workaround?

Thanks.

Sizing up the transaction logs directory

Hi -  I have a web application that contains a site that I want to import about 50 GB or content to.    On the backend SQL database, the databases are on a separate drive from the transaction logs.    I plan to increase the size of the database drive by about 75 GB to accomodate the new content.    How much space should be allocated to the transaction logs drive? I would think 75 GB there is overkill.

Hi,

i Need to move a sub site to a site collection and when done change the theme to look the same as all the other sites but ran into a issue.

i Create the destination team site and the theme's work with no issue.

Then i run my command after which the theme looks like this:

Why will this happen.

There was some errors saying it cant over write the Master Page. In total n think 10 errors but will have to load them later. Dont have access to log at the moment.

Anyone seen this behavior before?

Unable to open xlsm file without contribute rights

We have a doc library that behaves like no other ones we have!
Site collection feature and library settings are both set to open the docs in the default browser.

However when a user with read only permissions tries to open an excel doc they get the error (in a web app window) that the workbook can not be opened.
When users with contribute rights click it, it opens in excel perfectly.

Thinking this may be a macro/formula thing I uploaded a new excel doc with nothing more than "hello" in A1.
Exactly the same issue.

Unable to open unless have at least contribute.
If I have flicked off "require check out before edit" (which shouldn't come into it but as a test) and no change.

Any ideas?
