I have an all-in-one SP2010 installation and I am having issues crawling pdf's. 

I have tried Adobe filter and now Foxit filter with the same results. Here is the detailed log information, but it doesn't help pinpoint the error.

I have seen so many blog posts about how to add or remove blocked file types but no recommendations on additional file types that should be blocked. Does anyone have any additional suggestions over the default list?

We have a 2010 environment that uses Kerberos Windows authentication.

When using the people picker and clicking the 'Browse Icon' we are presented on the left with;

- Organizations
- All Users
- Active Directory
- SharePoint Groups

Which indicate locations that SharePoint is going to query. When searching for 'Paul' across all of them, the following results are returned;

- All Search Results (200)
- - All Users (0)
- - Active Directory (0)
- - Organizations (200)

However on the results pane on the right hand side, all the results are listed under the title 'User: Active Directory'

So my questions are;

1. What does 'Organizations' represent? (We have the User Profile Service running but I always thought it was independent of this)

2. Why does the People Picker re-order the results putting 'Organizations' at the bottom when it starts at the top (pre-search).

There are other reasons I'm asking this as when you add in ADFS as an additional Authentication Provider it makes the people picker unusable.

I have a site collection under a single web app.  Each department has a subsite, then there are various sub-sites under each department site.  We are moving to a new environment, and upgrading to 2010(then 2013) from 2007.  What I want to do in the new environment is create a web app for each department.  Then I want to import each department site from our old environment as the default site for the corresponding webapp in the new environment.

An example of what I want to try is to take http://sharepoint/it/default.aspx from our current environment and import it to http://sharepoint-IT/default.aspx

I'm facing problem with SharePoint 2010 Enterprise and got no clue how to solve it.
What I want to do is to open "*.txt" (which is placed to "Documents Library") in "Notepad", so I could edit it and save (publish) directly to SharePoint from "Notepad".
If I upload any Microsoft office File, such as "*.docx", "*.xls", etc - it works as it should - document opens in appropriate application and everybody is happy.
But, when I create documents library, put some "*.txt" file there and click on it - it opens in new browser's tab as text, so I cannot edit the file.

What I tried to do is to activate feature "Open Documents in Client Applications by Default" - not happy.
Edit "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\XML\DOCICON.XML" - I've modified "txt" entry as follows:

Users encountered credential prompts when I created an AAM manually and added a binding in IIS.  I found the following article that states I should delete the manual creation and extend the web application to the zone I want it in:

I started doing this on the Manage Web Applications section in Central Admin to an existing Web Site (Sharepoint - 80), then stopped because I wanted to see the settings of the current web app.

Now, when I go back to try again, I click the current Web App, click Extend.  When I go to choose "Use an Existing IIS Web Site", the only thing available in the box is "SharePoint Web Services".  Where are the other IIS sites (Web Apps)?

I've tried iisreset, I've rebooted the SharePoint server, and it still stays that way.  Am I losing my mind here and that's what's supposed to be there? 

I believe I just wanted to extend the web app on the existing site and create the different host header and Public URL in the different zone...

Is it possible to enable SharePoint Alerts me feature but disable all email notifications,  including the first email notification when user configure "Set alert for this library" to subscribe the changes.

Basically I want to disable all email notifications, someone suggests to change user profile$oUser["SPS-EmailOptin"].Value, but need a timer job to disable new users. Is there any other option?

Hi, I've run a Mount-SPContentDatabase.DB restore upgrade from a copy of my production MOSS db (SP2) to a DEV Server 2010 site.

Site came up and looks okay, but "Upgrade completed with errors." Reviewed the logs, matched the missing feature Ids their names using Feature Admin Tool. Some are custom features I recognize and will need to move over, others seem like Microsoft stock features, which I've listed below. What should I do about them? Do they get migrated, and if so, how?

Hi all,

I have a scenario where I need to make "contractor" AD account that will be used by non-employees to access a certain portion of our SharePoint infrastructure. I created some test accounts, and a new default group (DOMAIN\ctr domain users) and added that group to the Builtin "Users" group.

Now, I grant access to SharePoint for the thousands of other AD accounts by adding DOMAIN\Domain Users with X permissions to our SharePoint sites. However, I do not want to allow these contractors to have access. So, when I created these accounts, I removed them from the "Domain users" group and assigned them to the "Ctr domain users" as their default group. 

I then assigned the "Ctr domain users" group permissions to the primary site they will be accessing at the top level. However, now when I try and access this specific SharePoint group with one of my test accounts, it just says Access Denied. What am I misisng from the group or account perspective? Is there some requirement in SharePoint that an AD account needs to be a member of Domain users to authenticate with SP?

i've a custom list with two fields like this:

1. Type - that is dropdown list with vaules: SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE

2. VALUE - that will depend on "Type" field and that will have this value:
If Type is SMALL - Value = 50
If Type is MEDIUM - Value = 75
If Type is LARGE - Value = 100

How to do that automatically? but i don't want the field "Value" to be modified or edited, or even clickable.
So the end user, must only put data on the "Type" field, and based on it's value, the VALUE field to fill with proper result.

I'm using Sharepoint Server 2010 and recently deleted the UPS service to start over. Provisioning worked fine and the service now shows as running. However, I can't seem to actually set up a synchronization connection. I'm fairly sure I'm entering the correct domain and hostname for the domain controller, but I keep getting an error message close to "Can't find the domain controller. Please explicitly specify the domain controller."

It's very similar to this issue:

I have an issue when trying to access "Manage User Properties" under the user profile service application.

When trying to access it, after approx. 5 min I get a generic error "An unexpected error has occurred". When checking the diagnostic logs, it shows that I got a timeout - see below.

I have tried to set the ExecutionTimeout parameter in the web.config for the Central Admin console,  but the page still times out after approx. 5 minutes

I do have multiple import connections for my user profile service application - could this be affecting it?

I have tried accessing the Manage User Properties in my other SP2010 environments am facing the same issue...

I read through the details on SP2 for what is included and I am wondering the order of operations that needs to occur.  It says .."cumulative updates that were released through April 2013.".  I would like to also install the June 2013 CU that has been re-released.  

Does this mean that the June 2013 CU needs to be installed before or after SP2?  Are the two updates completely independent?

     Recently, we have integrated Cisco jabber with your SharePoint sites to know the presence working of the users.

But it is not showing the presence working of the users. We have tried starting Full user profile synchronization.

Only few users working is getting presented,& most of the users presence is not available.
