Hi All,

I would like to back up production SharePoint 2010 data by using SQL Server from forest A and then restore it to a SQL server of forest B. There is no forest trust between forest A and forest B.

After restoring data, I would like to perform "mount-spcontent database" cmdlet in a sharepoint 2010 of forest B.

Is it available to read the data in forest B?

I have a problem in a specific site collection in a web Application (but not on other site collection in that webApp).

whenever I add a user like some system account to a sharepoint group or create a new sharepoint group or add an ActiveDirectory group to a sharepoint group I get an error and the user / group are not added :

Hyperlinks being displayed differently for external users

Hi,

We have an intranet that is also available externally over https (and VPN). We use TMG.

In a custom list we have a hyperlink column. In that column we are storing URL for URI rewrites for our company's website I.e.http://www.abc.edu .

When we access our intranet externally, over the web via https (or VPN), the url in our hyperlink field in our custom list changes tohttps://abc.edu.au

If we use https for our intranet internally then the url displays correctly.

Could someone please advise why this is happening?

SharePoint 2010 - MySite Host Root Site Collection is corrupted

We have a Production - DR environment, each consists of one SharePoint Server, we have configured mirroring between the two environment for the failover\failback, We have SharePoint 2010, SP1

One very strange behavior we encountered while conducting failover test, is that when restoring then mounting the MySiteHost Content Database back up to DR, and trying to view the site collection list in the Application, it is not showing any details of the right side of the page, to isolate the issue, i took mirroring out, and tried to do Backup\Restore for the same database more than one time and the same behavior happens, please find below the steps followed:

- Backup\Restore MySite host to the DR using SQL Management Studio

- Created Web Application on the DR on different ports, Removed the dummy database from the web application

- Created the required Managed Pathes

- Mounted the new content database to the web application (Tried both, GUI, and Powershell)

- Here i can see the new content DB in CA, but when i try to see the site collections inside it, all the my sites are fine, EXCEPT Of the ROOT SITE , it looks to be corrupted\not reachable

> It shows no details on the right side of the page

> I can't assign administrator for it

> And i can't delete it using the GUI (i can do that only with stsadm)

> Sure My site functionality is not working at all

- (Note), same database is perfect in the production, and also when i try to access the same database using the View Un-Attached Database (In DR), it is accessible fine and i can see the lists and content inside it

- The issue happens only with the ROOT Site Collection

- No Single error shows in event log, or ULS

I have tried all the below solutions:

- Refreshed the Config DB sitemap using ($contentDB.RefreshSitesInConfigurationDatabase())

- Mount\Dis-Mount multiple times

- Run Configuration Wizard

- Deleted the Web Applications and created it again

Appreciate any idea's or Help in this regard, thank you in advance,

Hi,

We have migrated SP 2010 db server to a new server[mirroring was done].

Now while running the SP Configuration Wizard, to connect to the existing farm, we are getting error in the 7th step:

"Failed to provision the SharePoint Central Administration Web Application. Error during decryption. System Error Code 0."

We tried updating the FARM credentials, but same error persists.

Any ideas?

Migrating a site to SharePoint 2010 containing only lists and users

Hi,

I've a Moss 2007 site having only lists and, of course, users. No document libraries. So is it possible to migrate successfully to SharePoint 2010 following a "native" method or however is it better to adopt a third-party solution (fe Metalogix)?

Thanks

SharePoint document caching

hello -   I have an externally facing site where users download excel and pdf documents.   The download time is too long in some cases.  I want to improve performance by enabling caching.  I see that SharePoint offers 3 different caching options.  I'm thinking BLOB caching is the route I should take , but was wondering if there's any harm in using all 3 methods?

"Disabled" AD users and User Profile Sync

$

There are tons of blogs and post on this. Some questions still remain. We do not have any exclusion filters. However, in the profile synchronization connection properties, "Disabled Users" has been excluded via the container. Here is my scenario:

Past:

User A and User B, both were in user profile

In between:

Both User A and User B leave the company. Both accounts are "inactive" or "disabled" in AD. But not "deleted" in AD.

Now:

Profile for User A is no longer in User Profile. But User B is still there.

How do I investigate this? What is special about User B?

In fact I have checked with many inactive users. Most are no longer in User Profile. But this one user (User B) still remains.

SQLSERVR.exe taking up all memory??

Hello SharePoint Fam,

I have a dedicated SQL server 2008 R2 with 8GB of memory.  Currently when i login to this box it is moving extremely slow and whole site is moving very very slow.  Checked task manager and saw that sqlsvr.exe is taking up 7.81GB of the memory. What is the solution to get this space issue down?  Do i reboot thebox, end the process and restart sqlsvr.exe?  It has been at around 7.81GB all day today and I have never experienced this at all.  Never thought this exe would take all memory to run.

This box has nothing but sql installed and that's its only purpose

Reoccuring email reminders in Workflow 2010?

$

Hello everyone,

At our company, we run Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Server and I have been tasked with setting up a workflow using SPD to:

1. Keep track of two pieces of onboarding documents that need to be sent out to Managers and then to the Human Resources Personnel. These two documents have different due dates. The first one called "Core Training Plan" expires (due) in 1 year with email reminders sent out every 90 days. The second document is called "Draft Training Plan" and this one expires (due) in 3 months with email reminders sent out every 30 days. These documents could run in parallel.

2. Reminders! I for the life of me, cannot figure out how to trigger email reminders that are reoccuring for a single workflow! I have been able to do a basic three state, however it does not solve my problem. I moved to SPD to try and manually design a workflow. THe closest thing that I have been able to do is create a reminder on an expiring item ONCE using an expiration reminder workflow that I found at markeev.com

If I can get some help I would GREATLY APPRECIATE it. I am relatively new to SharePoint 2010 and am in the process of getting acquainted with workflow.

Thank you.

Vincent

Check-out required button appears for users with read-only access to Office 2010 documents opened from SharePoint 2010

$

Hi,

We’ve recently noticed a confusing result when users with read-only access open a file from SharePoint 2010.  In the server bar(of Office 2010) they see a message saying “Check out required” and are presented a button to check the document out.  If they click on the button, they are asked for login details which will never work as they only have read-only access to the document.

Is there is any way of preventing the server bar showing the check-out button if a user only has read-only access to a document?

The problem is summarised in this old web post:

http://amatterofdegree.typepad.com/a_matter_of_degree/2008/05/read-only-docum.html

The author suggests the problem is solved in SharePoint 2010 / Office 2010, but we’re seeing  differently as are some of the people who have responded to the post above.  This suggests there may be a server-level configuration option or something similar?

I've found loads of people raising the issue online, but no solutions.

Hope someone here can help.  Thanks, Oz

How to Archive a list in sharepoint 2010

$

Hi

I think large list is the inevitable trend and will be a very common issue faced by everyone. We are a medium business using sharepoint 2010.

For past 3 years, one of our SharePoint lists is over 20000 items.

From my end:

1.     I have indexed some important columns and created filtered views but it does not help much.

2.I have increased the list threshold value to 25000( Even though the best practice is 5000).

3.Also,  I have set the list template size to 500MB

4.     When I try to save the list as a template,  SharePoint throws an exception error.

5.  I tried working on the code mentioned in the link below but it looks complicated for me.

http://spboom.com/sharepoint-development/moving-sharepoint-list-items-to-archive-list/

What I need:

I need to archive old items in the list.  After archiving,  I might need to refer to the archived items from time to time.

As I'm newbie to SharePoint, it would be great, if someone can elaborate in detail with what can be done.

Again your help in this is much appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,

integration between Sharepoint Foundation and Oracle Identity Manager (OIM)

$

Hi,

I want to know if there is a way to integrate SharePoint Foundation and OIM without any custom development in place, just configuration.

My customer use OIM to authenticate the users using a FBA system.

there is a portal in place, now I have to display some SharePoint Foundation content in an IFrame.

so the user is already authenticated,. I have to configure sharepoint to consume this authentication. I cant manage my own FBA interface, the user must be authenticated through the customer's interface.

So, I'm looking for guides to know how to setup OIM to produce a cookie or something which can be used by sharepoint.

is there a 3rd party component which can do this? is it just config? or do I really need a custom code?

does the LDAP provider can do the job?

thanks for your help.

User Profile Synchronization Synchs Everything except Personal Options Menu after Name Change

$

I have a problem with the User Profile Synchronization which only seems to happen after a name change. We use Active Directory as the source for all our user information and the problem is not that the synchronization isn't pulling in the new information from AD. The user’s information is updated, but the links at the top right in the "my site" menu keep the old name and they point to the old accountname – so obviously the links don’t work, in fact they throw an error with a correlation ID.

Here’s the scenario: LoriS changed her name to LoriN. SharePoint search only works with the new accountname; searching for the person with the old name produces no results. The search results (for the new name) all show the name account name (email and photo are correct). Clicking on the link takes me to [mysite]/Person.aspx?accoutname=domain/LoriN, and everything works – profile, add as colleague, org chart. But when LoriN is in SharePoint, the my site menu at top right still has her old name – LoriS and the links point to accountname=domain/LoriS.

What do I need to do to fix this?

Backup using Backup-SPFarm alongside SQL backups

$

Hi all,

At present I have SharePoint 2010 running on a server with it's databases off on a SQL server that hosts not only the SharePoint databases but a load more as well.  I have full and transaction log backups of the databases running via the native SQL tools, so the databases for SharePoint are covered.

Knowing that this doesn't cover me in a disaster from the SharePoint side I'm going to use Backup-SPFarm as well, but in my testing I've noticed that Backup-SPFarm and SQL native backups get into a bit of an argument when it comes to diff backups:

"The previous full SQL backup for the database Search_Service_Application_LinksStoreDB_28ce0f29952746c2931decf12e91a0e1 was performed by another backup tool and may not be restored correctly."

So what I'm currently planning on doing is leaving SQL to handle the database level backups, and to use Backup-SPFarm with the configurationonly switch.  That way in the event of an emergency I would restore the dbs and then restore the SP backup.

My question really is then, will this work?  Is doing the Backup-SPFarm with configurationonly switch plus the SQL backups (plus a backup of the VM running SharePoint to get web.configs etc) enough, or does running configurationonly actually stop something else essential from backing up as well that I haven't now accounted for?

Many thanks,

Luke
