Migrate Web Application on Sharepoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013

Please i need your help.

I need move a application web of SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 but i when I try using Mount-SPContentDatabase command and this show me following error:

Need to Clone and Entire Web Application Within a Farm

First please let me clarify that I am not an experienced SharePoint Administrator. I have only been working with SharePoint for six months now. I am an experienced web developer having worked with classic ASP and ASP.net for well over fifteen years now. I was placed in the role of SharePoint Administrator overseeing three SharePoint farms. Two running SharePoint 2010 and one (soon to be upgraded) SharePoint 2007 farm

I need to clone an entire web application, content and all, within the same SharePoint 2010 farm. Basically I have a site being used by one group that another group has seen and want's a copy of for their own use. They like the layout and all of the functionality. We have decided to make an exact duplicate, then change out a few images. get rid of whatever documents and user contributed things that shouldn't be there and then open it up to the new group. Seems simple enough and I find it hard to believe that this doesn't happen on a somewhat regular basis. I have spent a lot of time searching the web for a good approach to doing this but have so far come up empty. Frankly I find it had to believe that there is no "Copy Web Application" functionality in Central Admin or SharePoint Designer (perhaps there is and I have yet to find it). I have come across all sorts of ways to backup and restore on different servers and farms and using export and import to a different farm but nothing specific to making a copy of a site/web application within a farm.

Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Recurring meeting item in SharePoint calendar via email.

Hi,

I want to highlight an issue with recurring event created via email in SharePoint Calendar. May be some of you already have experienced the issue and know the solution. If this the case please let me know the solution please.

Here I describe my issue.

1. I created a recurring meeting in my outlook and send it to my email enbaled calendar list in SharePoint 2010. I defined the end by date in meeting item. You can see the picture below.

Now

Then I connected my SharePoint Calendar to outlook using connect to outlook option in sharepoint list but when I open the recurring series in outlook which is connected to SharePoint the end date is not showing up there. It automatically goes to no end date option. I included both the picture the red mark is correct one and blue mark is faulty one.

I have deleted site
I have repaired office 2010

Exception attempting to ApplyWebTemplate to SPSite (executing PowerShell)

I am running a basic PowerShell command: 

New-SPSite -url $siteCollection -OwnerAlias $siteOwner -Template "STS#0"

For some reason, I am getting the following error:

"Exception attempting to ApplyWebTemplate to SPSite"

The error is being raised because the site template (STS#0) cannot be found. If I substitue STS#0 with any other templates, I get the same error... Also, I can run this same command against existing web applications and it works fine. The issue seems to be happening on newly created web applications.

Anyone seen this before? Does my web app not have something activated/enabled?

Relink User's MySite after AD user account restore

Hi,

We have a person who had a My Site in Sharepoint 2010, that contained lots of documents.

Unfortunately, the user's account was deleted from active directory for about 10 hours, before it was restored using Tombstone reanimation (using adrestore.exe)

Everything worked well, until we noticed the Sharepoint user profile service didn't import the user's account properitys correctly.

Shows domianname\login name, rather than display name

Is it possible to relink the restored user account back with their original mysite, or do I need to restore data to another location and reimport?

Also, how do I get Sharepoint to syncronise correct AD information?

What is the best thing for posting video files on SharePoint sites?

Hello,

I have some users who would like to post videos on our internal SharePoint sites. Some videos are large (2 GB+) and some are small (20 MB). I know SharePoint has a maximum upload size and 2 GB would dramatically increase database size, backup size, and slow performance down, not to mention network performance being hit, but would there be any other reasons why posting a large video on SharePoint would be a good idea?

Do solutions only get deployed to designated WFE's?

When a solution is deployed to a sepcific webapp does it by design only send to WFE servers?

What about for a globally deployed solution?

I recently added a server to my farm that was not intended to be a WFE, but when you add it to the farm it automaticaly

becomes a WFE, so I  stopped the SP Web Application service and it removed all the IIS sites and all seemed well

Now I am seeing tha Global Solutions are still deployed to the on WFE servers, is this by design?

The non globals seem to be retracted from the non wfe.

Now when I retract a solution from a non WFE that still has the solution deployed to it the retraction doesnt work(since its not a WFE)

Hi,

I want to set a SharePoint document title with its file name automatically when the document isuploaded or modified in SharePoint Document library. I got a solution which Automatically Fills Title when you upload a document into Document Library from the below link

This solution work for only when we upload a document the title fields get auto fill with its name field.

But i want to auto fill the title if user uploads and modify the document name field in the sharepoint document library.

Could someone help me on this?

Yet another event ID 5553 error..

Hi all,

I noticed a lot of event ID 5553 errors on this site but I have tried almost all of it and it seems to not be solving the issue. Specifically the error I get is this:

failure trying to synch site 3d0b5889-cf98-4d4f-8212-f35d602f88e6 for ContentDB 14a09b1b-3984-4499-bf1d-c9e517911f8b WebApp a26f4ded-f07a-4e0f-8c70-e3f38dca95d7.  Exception message was Cannot insert duplicate key row in object 'dbo.UserMemberships' with unique index 'CX_UserMemberships_RecordId_MemberGroupId_SID'.
The statement has been terminated..

My Sharepoint 2010 is running on 3 separate VMs as such:

1) Sharepoint server

2) SQL server

3) AD authentication

I have tried the following steps to try to fix this:

1) stsadm -o sync -listolddatabases 0

Result:

2) I have tried to delete the AD server connection by going to Central admin > Manage service apps > User Profile service application > Configure synchronization connections. Went to Monitoring > review job definitions > click on "User Profile Service Application - User Profile to SharePoint Full Synchronization" and click on run now. Same error occurs.

Anything else I should try? Any help greatly appreciated.

SharePoint Site Settings > Site Permissions > shows user is in Viewers group - which is not true

Hi, I use SharePoint 2010.

When I check Site Settings > Site Permissions > Check Permissions for a user1 - it shows the user is member of Viewers group.
When I see the Viewers group the I cannot see the user there at all.

Any clues?

Site Permissions not preventing ALL users from accessing EVERY site

All users can access every site despite me removing them from site permissions.  One site, for example, now only has our domain admins AD group and System Account (SHAREPOINT\system).  Yet every user in our domain can access this team site.  They apparently only have some sort of READ only permission because they can view everything but cannot contribute to a list or document library.    I feel like there is possibly coming in Central Administration that is overriding the site permissions. 

Also, I have noticed that every user can site settings of the home site, so they can change the theme and tasks like that.

We have a client that requires FIPS encryption in our SharePoint 2010 environment.  Based on what I have read it is not possible, but I am wondering has anyone gotten it to work.  If not what do I need to do?

SQLSERVR.exe taking up all memory??

Hello SharePoint Fam,

I have a dedicated SQL server 2008 R2 with 8GB of memory.  Currently when i login to this box it is moving extremely slow and whole site is moving very very slow.  Checked task manager and saw that sqlsvr.exe is taking up 7.81GB of the memory. What is the solution to get this space issue down?  Do i reboot thebox, end the process and restart sqlsvr.exe?  It has been at around 7.81GB all day today and I have never experienced this at all.  Never thought this exe would take all memory to run. 

This box has nothing but sql installed and that's its only purpose

Document Parser corrupts DOCX files with Inking in them after DEC 2012 Cumulative Update

When a Word 2010 DOCX file, that contains inking annotations, is uploaded to a document library the ink is then no longer visible in the document, and it is unable to be edited and saved back to the library.

This issue DID NOT exist previous to the DEC 2012 Cumulative Update Version 14.0.6131.5003.

If the Parser is disabled using  ParserEnabled = $false, then the issue disappears.

It is obviously a bug relating to the Document Promotion/Demotion feature of SharePoint, and I believe it was introduced in the 14.0.6131.5003 version of the Office Document Parser (offparser.dll).

It does not seem to be a widely reported issue, but it is easy to replicate. On a vanilla install of SharePoint Server in a test environment, the CU produces the same issue.

I would appreciate any assistance by the Microsoft engineering team on this issue.

Other Information:

Version: SharePoint Server Standard 2010 SP1 with KB2596955 (DEC CU) applied.
Server: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
Hardware: Virtual Hyper-V Environment
Office 2010 Professional Plus SP1

P.S. I have also managed to test the BETA of Service Pack 2 for both the Office Applications and SharePoint Server and the problem is still present in SP2.

Proper AAM entry to reference a site using IP:portnumber

I have a Webapp called sitename.domain.com, it sent across 4 WFE using a NLB.

In order to implement monitoring that will check if all 4 servers are up I want to check a page for content on

each server.

Do I add a public URL entry xxx.x.109:8888 for each server or do I

Add Internal url for the proper zone?

Getting error in event log: Forefront Identity manager

Hi All,

In one of our SharePoint 2010 CA server, when we checked the event logs, we saw a bunch of Error message with the source: forefront Identity manager.

Can someone help me to identify the reason why this is happening. please look into the below snapshot.

Please help ASAP.
