export variation pages not being exported

Hi,

We enabled the Export Variation and Import Variation in the UI as given in Stefan Gobner's blog here. When we try to do an Export Variation from one of our target varations, we get only 4 or 5 pages in the cmp file that is exported. We could see the pages by renaming the cmp as .cab file. These 4 or 5 pages are all pages that are at the variation label web level(<a href="http:///<variationlabel>/pages">http://<sitecollection>/<variationlabel>/pages). In the variation hierarchy, we have selected to propagate the pusblishing sites as well as pages from source label to target label. Can anyone help us with this issue?

Adding to the above, we ran the variationsfixup command with the fix attribute and we found in the output that in the "Variations Source Hierarchy table", there were only 4 or 5 pages and the other pages were not listed. I guess this could be a problem. Can anyone point out why the other pages are not listed in the Variations Source Hiearachy?

we are getting the below error,

this content database has a schema version which is not supported in this farm sharepoint 2010

we have taken the backup of the web application and we have formatted the server and reinstalled the same softwares including the sql server.

The back up restored to the Db successfully, but when we trying to add the content db to the web application it is throwing the schema error, we have added the content db through powershell, stsadm and central admin also.

please reply if any one know the answer.

Using Photos Stored in Active Directory

Hi All,

We have our employee photographs stored in Active Directory under the attribute: thumbnailPhoto. We have setup synchronization between AD and SharePoint 2010 and all of the fields are coming over, with the excepton of the Photo. I know we need to configure a mapping between the thumbnailPhoto attribute and a SharePoint attribute - but which one? PictureURL seems to be a text value and it does not work. We already have a number of applications that leverage AD for the photo so we really don't want to re-invent the wheel here. Does anyone have this working and if so, could you send detailed instructions? Thanks a lot.

Does SharePoint 2010 supports ACtive Directory 2012 forest and domain functional levels

Hi All,

We have currently SharePoint 2010 deployed on a physical server, we are planning to introduce Windows 2012 domain controller in our existing domain and demote all other domain controllers and then raise forest and domain functional level to 2012. Can some please let me know and confirm that this is supported by SharePoint 2010 and it will not affect any functionality of SharePoint 2010.

SharePoint Document Library Edit

Hi , am using SharePoint 2010

have a document Library with emails migrated from public folders ...I have this column Name (linked to document with edit menu  which shows the subject of the email

I want to change this column name - Name (linked to document with edit menu)  to "Subject "..

Please let me know, if there is a way to change this in SharePoint.....did not find it in UI....

I know this is a default column, but want to rename it ...please help

What Are Some Good SharePoint Backup Methods

Hello SharePoint Fam,

Currently I have no good backup solution in place, right now I am only using the Farm Backup Full/Differential from CA and that is it.  Are there any 3rd party solutions that any of you would recoommend that could allow for quick restore of sites/list/documents?  Our server/network team does there thing by backing up all servers daily, monthly and weekly but of course those backups won't help as much as a real sharepoint backup right???  I am looking at software called metalogix but wanting to get some feedback on what you are using in your environment for backup/restore options.

Error when editing document properties "FFM Cold Mismatch, retrying" and "Master blob error ICsiError: csierrGenericFDA_FfmColdMismatch (0x73E"

We have a document library in a SharePoint 2010 Enterprise SP1 (no CU's installed after SP1) environment, where users receive an error when editing the properties of the document in the browser after recently modifying the content in the client application.  Library has vesioning turned on, check out is not required.

Steps the user followed are:

1. Edit the contents of the document in Word, save and close document.

2. In browser, edit the properties of the document in the browser. 

3. Receive an error message with a correlation ID.  Another user attempts to edit the properties and receives same error.  The ULS logs show the following consistently with the errors:

  • ttidLogCellStg      Master blob error ICsiError: csierrGenericFDA_FfmColdMismatch (0x73E)
  • ttidLogWssCellStg   FFM Cold Mismatch, retrying.

By the time word reaches me, I am able to edit the properties of the document with no problem.  I found this article (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sharepointadminprevious/thread/b980f0b2-2b9f-4e18-a4dd-81f4019e81b8), but while the error is the same, it's not the same symptoms. 

The document is a Word template saved as the template in the library with some of the SharePoint fields inserted as quick parts in the content of the doc. 

I am able to reproduce a similar error which also triggers the same items in the ULS logs by editing the document as another user, closing it, then editing the properties in my browser without refreshing. In this case, the error displayed on screen is "The file http://xxx is locked for shared use by domain\user."  However, I am told that this is not the error that is displayed when the problem occurs.  I am also told that no one else has the document open at the same time edits are being made to the properties.

I am considering requiring checkout, but do not want to add another step to the process for these users.  Any help is appreciated.

Renaming Intranet portal

The intranet and web application was once created as http://portal1– now the manager want’s it named to http://portal2 

So beside the DNS entry, I’ve created an AAM in sharepoint

In the CA under AAM, there's this:

Public Url:

  • Default:  http://portal1
  • Intranet:  http://portal2

Internal  Url:

  • Default:  http://portal1
  • Intranet:  http://portal2

In the IIS binding I’ve set it to answer on portal2 as well and also adjusted the content source crawl URL.

Do I have to rename the Web Application with a powershell script?

Can I now (or after renaming the web application) delete all references tohttp://portal1 everywhere? -  in the IIS binding and the AAM etc. etc. ?

Clean a backup more than 7 days

Hi,

I have a problem with the number of days you want to backup my sharepoint. The server where my sharepointe is installed, has the regional sttings in Portuguese, and i think, that this is the problem because my script to clean backup more than 7 days doesn't work.

This is the script :

Issues using SharePoint PowerShell cmdlets using PowerShell Remoting

We are having an issue with the SharePoint 2010 management cmdlets inside of a PowerShell Remoting session.

Here is a example code output (stripped of company-specific data):

This looks like it has something to do with WinRM not being an elevated shell, because when I use the SharePoint API inside of WinRM I need to use RunWithElevatedPrivileges.  Does anyone know of a way around this limitation?

runtime error in sharepoint 2010 homepage

Dear all,

I had done modification in web.config file a month ago for changing the timeout setting from 3600 to 36000. i had done changes in both the frontend server. Nowadays I am getting Runtime Error

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error 
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. 

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. I just took a copy of the webconfig file - before i did the modifications. Now my question is whether the error comes because any mistake in typing/spaces etc; which is mentione in this linkhttp://geekswithblogs.net/ranganh/archive/2005/04/25/37613.aspx whether renaming the web config file to webconfigold and restoring the webcopy file web config file will help.

How to setup content type hub and metadata and associate with document libraries

Hello

I want to setup a content type hub alongwith creation of content type with association of pre-defined metadata(termsets) and publish/associated  for all the items in all existing document libraries for different site collections.

I googled various articles on setting up content type hub, but did not find anything on publishing to existing document libraries.

Please let me know if someone have some good information available on this if possible step-by-step.

Create Copy of web application on same Sharepoint 2010 server

Hello All,

I have to Copy (Not Move) the existing Web application on the another web application over SAME server.

I tried database backup and attach to new web application but it does not work.

Backup and Restore from Central Administration also not working.

Working on Import and Export at the moment.

Can anybody suggest the best approach or what would be the steps for content database backup and restore approach?

PeoplePicker with two different zones (FBA-only and Windows-only)

I have 1 web application where I setup claims-based authentication with Kerberos (http://contoso) and I extended that web application to another one that uses SSL and FBA only (https://contoso).  Everything appears to be setup correctly in that I can login with FBA credentials and pick FBA users in the people picker from the https site and I can search AD users from the http site.  However, I cannot lookup AD users in the https site, nor can I lookup FBA users in the https site.  The people picker in Central Admin works and can see FBA and AD users.

This was working fine in SP 2007, but has not been working since I upgraded to 2010.  Is there a way to allow the AD users to pick the FBA users while in the AD-only zone (and visa-versa)?

Unable to access Mysites outside server

I have set up Mysites and I am able to access it on the server. But I am unable to access it outside the server. However I am able to access a different site on different web application fine outside the server.

Things I tried -

1) Added an entry to hosts file. 2) AAM added to Default zone. 3) Both web application exists on port 80 4) Tried to ping both host names outside server where Mysites hosts did not resolve

I believe disabling loopback on the server is for the access on the server.

Am I missing anything obvious here? Any help is appreciated

How to configure user profile syncronization service with my membership data (SQL Server)

Hi

We have a product developed in moss. we stores employee data from external linked server to our custom membership data. We defined custom profile import job which creates/updates sharepoint user profile (UserProfileManager.createProfile...)

Now we are in Sharepoint 2010 and migrated custom profile import job. we created User profile service application. The issue is my migrated profile import job creates/updates sharepoint user profile. But when I in Central admin > user profile service application. there are less count in No of user profile. that reads from profile DB(created by service application). so even though my timer job has created around 62,000 user profile, the profile db just shows 39,000 users. I don't undestand why it's showing less profile?

Both forefront identity service and manager serives are required to start for only user profile service application or those services are related to Profile syncronization service only

List item error during editing in sharepoint 2010

Hi,

I have one issue,one of user have full control permission on site and also on list ,but when he try to edit any item,he will get error

Kindly check below scren short

Error during update List item

But difrent is when i am editing same item with full permision  with my acount,i can easly update and edit.

I hav try all proces like delet cookies,assigne permisiion with full control again,but same problem exist.
