restoring a full farm backup

$

Hi All,

this week we plan to restore our entire farm on test machines to check the heath of backups, i know that the architecture should be the same but what about domain?

Does it matter if my test machines are also in same domain as that of my production machines, bcoz i think that while restoring the entire farm the database restoration should not go to production servers and overwrite things there?

Please correct me on this?

Another query is that what manual work(third party wsp and etc) we have to do

1. if we restore farm by just restoring the databases

2. or we restore from a full farm backup.

SharePoint sites are using Relative Paths for URLS

$

Hello,

Some users have old short-cuts to SharePoint sites without the FQDN, like http://sharepoint.  We have noticed that some SharePoint dialogs don't close when the URL of the site does not have the FQDN. When users are using the site with the FQDN,http://sharepoint.domain.com, SharePoint dialogs close.  I do have the alternative access mappings set to use the FQDN, but when users enter sub-sites without the FQDN, SharePoint does not put the domain.com in the URL. I noticed that SharePoint is using relative paths for the links on the quick launch area (etc. Docoments, Pictures, Lists, Surveys, and Discussions) and the top link bar, so when users click on these links, the FQDN is not formed, its stillhttp://sharepoint and not http://sharepoint.domain.com, which is what I need.

So, how can I have all links be resolved to the FQDN, i.e. http://sharepoint.domain.com?

Thanks

Can't delete a Mysite users sitecollection

Hi there,

Can someone please help?

I have 3 Web Applications, where one of them is Mysite...

The problem is with My Site. When I select the My Site link in the top right navigation, I then go to my Mysite – but when I try to create My Content it throws a “400 bad request” - if I chose a User7 ( not in the list) it works fine...

In CA - > Application management -> View site collections - I can see a list with the:

  • /
  • /personal/user1
  • /personal/user2
  • /personal/user3
  • /personal/user4
  • /personal/user5

Etc. Etc..

When I click on some of them I get a box to the right:

URL

http://mysite/personal/user5

Title

Users  NAME

Description

This……

Primary administrator:

Contoso\user1

E-mail address:

User5@contoso.com

Database Name

Mysite_Content

On others I don’t get this box… e.g. user1

But I can’t delete user1Mysite collection from CA

And if I try with the “Remove-SPSite -Identity "http://mysite/personal/user1/" –GradualDelete”

I get:

Remove-SPSite : <nativehr>0x80070003</nativehr><nativestack></nativestack> At line:1 char:14 + Remove-SPSite <<<<  -Identity "http://mysite/personal/user5/" -GradualDelete + CategoryInfo          : InvalidData: (Microsoft.Share...mdletRemoveSite:    SPCmdletRemoveSite) [Remove-SPSite], DirectoryNotFoundException     + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell.SPCmdletRemoveSite

So that doesn’t work either…

Why can I see the sites it in the list if it’s not there?

What am I missing?

Team Center Integration with SharePoint Enterprise Search - Issue

For Team Center Integration with SharePoint Enterprise Search, we have created a SQL Server Data Mart DB. Data will be pushed from Team Center to this data mart. This data represents items in Team center. This data stands as content source for our SharePoint search.

When we crawled this out of 1490710 items 498858 items are failing to crawl and giving the following error in the crawl log “Error while crawling LOB contents. (IEntity could not be found using criteria 'Id=109')”

But when click on the error occurred item from crawl log page, its opening the item in the SharePoint profile page.

Could you please guide me how to resolve this crawl issue?

Migrating a Subsite to Its Own Site Collection with All Metadata

Hi All,

So I have a collaborate sub site and we want to move it to a teamsite under its own site collection.

What is also required is when we migrate the site over, they want to move all the metadata along with it.

I tried using the Powershell command Export-SPWeb to perform the migration, but when I import it it will fail  importing the subsite.

User Profile Service Import User Pictures from AD

Hi,

Let me brief about the Setup:

1. Sharepoint Server 2010 with Feb'12 CU installed. (No Service Pack 1 installed actually)

2. AD Import thumbnail photo Connection has been set on User Profile Service.

3. Mysite Host Location: http://servername/my/mysite

4. All the pictures (128x128 in size) are imported from AD successfully, I can see those under MySite's User Photos Picture Library

I'm currently looking at the article http://sharepointadam.com/2010/11/18/import-user-profile-photos-from-active-directory-into-sharepoint-2010/ to acheive this.

Trying Update-SPProfilePhotoStore .... command, but gettting error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".

1. Can someone confirm, if the Service Pack 1 is must for this feature to work properly or are there any alternate fix for the import to display user pictures.

2. Has anyone tested the steps mentioned in the above article? If the procedure works, then I need to schedule maintenance window with our Business Units.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

SharePoint Claims (3rd party tip) - UPA Profile mismatch

$

I have a Sharepoint claims webapp.   I have a 3rd party tip.   I cannot get the CLAIMS ID to match up with the UPA Profile Account.

I noticed something when troubleshooting.  The format of the user, when I did the powershell user migration of mysite did something that I don't think looks right.    My user's are coming in from the TIP with the username format as follows: i:05.t|TipName|sAMAccountname"  ... however, when I got into mysites ... I see that the MYSITE is set with the ID " i:0#.w|sAMAccountname".    It looks like I missed a step somewhere in my powershell command ... however, I don't know where I may have done that.

Does anybody have any idea why the "TIP" is missing in the default MYSITE user?   It's like - mysite is expecting a "windows" claim - but I am sending over a TIP claim.   Thus, the mismatch.

THANKS- Greg

MySite user profile site creation of My Content page is created as provisioned failed (unprovisioned)

I've been trying to troubleshoot our User Profile Sync and have noticed the profile pages weren't getting updated with everything.  Most content was but things like memberships and the content tabs weren't.  I also saw this error in ULS:

ProfSynch: Exception attempting to enumerate site 25a72070-4249-4698-ae99-c2a45d25b08e for ContentDB 23a6e3ef-6d56-4bde-825e-95c6924e2f91: Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.ProfileSynchronizationInternalException: ProfSynch: The site with ID 25a72070-4249-4698-ae99-c2a45d25b08e cannot be synchronized due to an unprovisioned root web.
     at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.SiteSynchronizerCollection.GetSynchInfoForSite(SqlDataReader dr, SynchInfo info)
     at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.SiteSynchronizerCollection.<get_Elements>d__0.MoveNext()

I checked in the MySite database under the webs table and noticed all the My Content sites for all of our users had the flag column with the number 1315 in them - (meaning unprovisioned as the error above states).  Cross checking with the User Sync Profile database under the SiteSynch table I noticed all of the sites have NULL for the value under both the LastSynch and ChangeToken columns (The User Profile Service Application - User Profile to SharePoint Full Synchronization  timer job takes care of populating that).  With that information I decided to run proc_markasprovisioned stored procedure against a couple of the sites, which marked them with the flag of 1059 (provisioned) and stopped the error.  This also let the timer job run thru and populate the profile site for the user.  Question is, why are they failing provisioning in the first place?  Anyone have a clue as where to go with this one?

Thanks,

Dave

Since migrating to SP2010, I am unable to save any site as a template.  I have fixed a few errors but the message Im currently getting isError exporting the site field named "Resource Type3". I have restracted every solution but that has not resolved this problem.

I see alot of error in the logs when I try to do this but I dont know how to fix them.  The relevant log sections are below.   I dont know how to fix theUnable to locate the xml-definition for CType with SPContentTypeId  problems and I seeError exporting the site field named "Resource Type3" but I dont know if thats because of the other errors or if there is something else wrong.

SharePoint 2010 - save calendar list as template and move to another site collection show no data in calendar view

Hi

I save a calendar list by save it as template with content (stp file),  copied the stp file to another site collection (the destination site) list template galleries.  On the destination site collection,  I create a new list (under Tracking) and use this calendar template file as the template.

the new list created successfully.  under View All Site Content, I see the number of items show correctly.  but when I open the new list with calendar view there are no items show on any day, week or month.  I created a calendar view and set the metadata fields correctly and still no data show.  I then created a standard view and see all the item data properly.

I tried this on a test site collection,  and it worked just fine.

There must be some thing in this destination site collection (feature ?, ) that cause this but I have no idea.

If anyone have a solution or suggestion,  Please advice.

Thanks

SharePoint and Project Web App version compatibility?

Hi all,

I'm using SharePoint 2010. I recently installed Project Web App 2010 and successfully created Project Web App Sites. However, I have Project Professional 2013 installed on my local PC. I'd like to ask the following:

  • Can Project Professional 2013 work with Project Web App 2010?
  • If not, can Project Web App 2013 be installed on SharePoint server 2010?

Thank you

Search Service failed to start due to logon failure

Hey guys,

I have been fighting issues with SharePoint Search getting invalid uid and passwords when rebooting a server.

I have checked and the account I am using for SharePoint search has logon as service rights. I also tried updating the account password in SharePoint under managed accounts and that didnt make it happy either. I have checked in AD and the account is set to never expire password.

I can start the service manually by typing in the password in the windows service though.

The password also hasn't been changed for this account.

Thanks for any help that anyone can give on this, I have looked at other articles and I have tried all of the troubleshooting steps that I saw but unfortunately I am still faced with the same problem each time my Crawl or WFE Server is rebooted.

Reattaching MOSS 2007 database to 2010 - not showing data in site collection

Hi,

I've had a look but can't find anything explaining something that is probably quite obvious.

I had had an old MOSS 2007 server that we are moving to a windows srv 2008 / sharepoint 2010 setup.

I backed up the servers content database and moved it onto the new setup where I ran the command to reattach the database. All of which worked fine.

I then created a site collection which correctly understood the right content database.

The problem is when i go the the site collections website it's a brand new setup and I can't seem to recover or find all the document libraries from the content database  to display them in the new site.

I'm hoping this is a really obvious thing I've missed but can anyone help?

Mobile SharePoint site navigation on subsites

Hey All,

I'm unable to access sharepoint subsite from my mobile browser. The parent site works great.

The same sharepoint subsite works on regular desktop browsers. I've setup "cross fire-wall access zone" on parent site only. There is no way we can do this on subsite anyway (I believe).

any ideas pl?. how to setup AAM on subsite .

Thanks

How to prevent "User Profile Service Application — User Profile Incremental Synchronization" timer job from running on a wrong server?

$

Hello.

In our organization we are trying to implement User Profile Service redundancy (not UPSS). According to unofficial information found in the Internet it's quite an easy task - just start User Profile Service on any other farm server and it will provide a redundant service.

So we've tried that solution on our test farm with the following configuration:

2 servers with SharePoint 2010 SP1 (ver. 14.0.6117.5002): the first one with application server role and the second server is WFE (Web Front End). Originally, both User Profile services (UPS and UPSS) was started only on application server and this worked fine. We have only one UPS application in the farm.

After we've started User Profile Service on the second server (WFE), the timer job "User Profile Service Application — User Profile Incremental Synchronization" had started to run on this second server (WFE). All next runs of this timer job was scheduled on that server too.

Probably, because our WFE doesn't have User Profile Synchronization Service instance (and as far as I know it's not possible to run UPSS on the second server) this job permanently fails with error "Error message: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))". However, I cannot definitely say this is the cause.

So, the main question is how to stop this timer job from running on the wrong server if it is possible? And, in general, is it even possible to provide a redundancy of theUser Profile Service by running it on the second server?

P.S.: There is the topic with the problem that looks the same, but it has no answer and the environment is probably different.

content deployment settings problem

While trying to connect my UAT to Prod through content deployment, I get Either the URL for the destination Web application is not valid, or you do not have permissions to the Central Administration site on the destination server farm.Error details: The remote Web service request failed with this message : 'Unable to connect to the remote server'.

I am farm admin in both the box. And URL is also correct for central admin. Also in Content Deployment Setting , in UAT i am not able to get production server in drop down list of export server while in Prod i cant get UAT server in drop down list of import server. Do i need to do something in IIS level? Is there any thing out of the sharepoint to be setup? If any one has knowledge about it or has complete steps please help me
