Hardware Resource Planning for a SharePoint farm

Hi, I need to simplify this process...

At the <g class="gr_ gr_56 gr-alert gr_gramm Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="56" id="56">moment</g> we are using a spreadsheet and update resources per server and a very manual process to try and calculate what we will need down the line to properly plan it.

We are moving over to a new server farm of 60 servers and then the old farm is still there with also about 35 servers.

There must be some tools that can make this <g class="gr_ gr_210 gr-alert gr_spell ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="210" id="210"><g class="gr_ gr_223 gr-alert gr_gramm Grammar multiReplace" data-gr-id="223" id="223">easyer</g></g>, specifically towards <g class="gr_ gr_256 gr-alert gr_gramm Punctuation multiReplace" data-gr-id="256" id="256"><g class="gr_ gr_254 gr-alert gr_gramm Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="254" id="254">ram</g> ,</g> CPU and disk usage?

To buy 3rd party software for this is not going to be an easy task so free tool would be great but if it is a paid solution then so be it.

We are trying to get them to buy SPDocIT and Metalogix Diagnostics <g class="gr_ gr_403 gr-alert gr_gramm Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="403" id="403">Manager</g> but the procurement process is pretty lengthy if it happens.

Hi Guys,

We are planning to upgrade SQL server to SP3 from 2008 R2 SP2 and would like to known if there are any known issues with SharePoint 2010 server and office web apps.

Though I was searching blogs and forums and could not find any noteworthy but wanted to look if any noted SharePoint issues after the upgrade.

Unable to Configure the Viso servives in sharepoint server 2010

Unable to configure the viso services. unable to configure and see the viso service in
CA->configure wizard ->Lunch the farm configuration wizard->Start the
Wizard->services.

Activated "SharePoint server enterprise feature".

Unable to view the viso service in below path

ApplicationManagement ->Mange service applications->Click New

Please let me know to get the Viso services any CU or service need to install??

Unable to restore SharePoint farm with Backup Exec - Farm Topolgy appears to be locked and job repeatedly fails

Hi All

I'm attempting a full restore of a SharePoint 2010 farm, single server housed on the same server as the SQL server that holds the SharePoint databases. Backup and restore is via Backup Exec, the backup job was carried out via BE 2012 and the Restore is via BE 2104. The server I'm attempting to restore to has also been restored by using the system state and a copy of the drives from the original source server - hence its pretty much a clone of the source server.

Irrespective of the account used to run the restore job I'm seeing repeated failures with the error "Unable to lock the Microsoft SharePoint Farm Topology. You must unlock the farm topology and retry the job".

By restoring the admin databases directly by taking a SQL backup of the source databases and restoring these to the server I'm attempting to restore SharePoint to I have succeeded in bringing the SharePoint admin console back to life, none of the sites are in a locked state, and they can be locked and unlocked both via the admin console or via Powershell. Locking and unlocking the makes no difference.

Any ideas where I can look to from here, could the above error be a cryptic Backup Exec error that doesn't actually mean what it says?

Backup Sharepoint 2010

There is a farm Sharepoint 2010. The path to its sql-base was set as alias in tools cliconf.exe. When I try to farm backup by Administrative Center Sharepoint 2010 in the logs can be seen that the search is conducted in the old (now defunct) sql-instance, which shown in the by Administrative Center and not as alias in the tools cliconf.exe. Is it even possible in this situation (when the path to the database is set as alias) make a backup by Administrative Center Sharepoint 2010? Or perhaps exist a different path.

Issue In outgoing Email address

Hi,

I have create Sharepoint foundation 2013 Web application

under this I have create  binding http://xyz.com:5555 and http:abc.com:80

Outgoing email address working fine for Port 5555 but when any invitation send from http://abc.com:80

the from address email change to user address email which send a request.

Please help.

Hi,

My requirement is this. I need to install a sharepoint server in a system A. Now I need to install another Sharepoint server in System B, only this time I need the config database on system A rather than System B.

In short, sharepoint in both system A and system B should have the database in the same sql server(that is either in A or B). How this can be achieved?

Hello Everybody,

I am facing an issue with SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard. I have installed SP1 and then June 2011 CU but after installation when I tried to run the "SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard", it is failing with an error at the 9th step.

Looking at the log file I could see below details related to the error.

I have searched to find a resolution for this issues but all of them require me to go to AD admin. In my case making any change in the AD is not possible mainly because it is a production AD and the administrator are not tracking (and do not want to track) SharePoint installations as of now.

Is there any way I can skip creating service connection point for this farm?

Access Denied to Use Templates

I am trying to create a new site using a custom template. I am the new admin here at the company. Other also are having "access denied" errors when trying to create the site using these custom templates. 

However I can still create a site using the out of the box templates. I have given myself site collection admin (primary) and I am a farm administrator as well. Any ideas on why I keep getting access denied to specific templates?

We are using Searh for local sites only, no search centre is created. so all search is scoped either at site level (OOB) or at library level(OOB).

We are getting following two errors very frequently. Please suggest solution and expected Search topology and search service location to start the service depending on provided farm details.  (Farm details are available after error description)

I have been given the task to Update SP in Staging Environment to Service Pack 2. Once this is successfully done, I will then have to do it into the Production/Live environment. 

I have no idea where to start, never have done this, please advise!

Hello SharePoint Fam,

For past 2 months now I have been getting a Load Balanacer error once each hour along with 8088 taxonomy warning right after this error.  

Seems like its search service related but im lost as where to look

Workflow menu option not showing up in edit form or the ribbon in SharePoint 2010 list

In a SharePoint 2010 list I created a workflow (in SPD)  and published, but in the Edit Item form, there is no Workflow option. In the ribbon, the "Workflow" button is greyed out.

But I see this option in other lists.  Where is the setting I can get this workflow option show up in menu?

Unable to use Central Administration tasks; Getting "trust realtionship has failed between this workstation and the domain"

Hello,

I'm new to Sharepoint. Thank you in advance for bearing with me.

For some reason, when attempting to select "manage web services" I am getting "trust relationship failed". I also get this on various other menus within Central Administration. I have verified teh computer's secure channel using nltest and netdom and claims success. Also within windows, I can select new users from the domain. However, rejoined the domain successfully again anyway with no luck. This seems associated with another issue we are experiencing. When attempting to use people picker to set permissions to the site, the people picker is not seeing any new AD users. We have only one domain. Any feedack would be greatly appreciated.

I want to set the value of "Keep the following number of major versions" in the versiong settings of a documnet library to a limit say 20 and then disable the option from the users so that they cannot them. Is it possible thorugh some custom coding?
