I am unable to get the Search functionality working in my SP site. I have a new SP farm (2 app, 2 web, 1 sql) which I am working on configuring. I've migrated a site collection from my development environment which appears to be fully functional
other than the Search. I created a seperate Enterprise Search site and that works fine. This leads me to believe it's something specific with the site or the search service application I configured.
When I search for something on the site it throws the error: The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service.
When I view the search service application in CA it shows over 300 searchable items, crawls completing successfully, etc. I verified my site has the correct service application association selected. I think my Enterprise Search site uses
a different search service application though (FAST Query SSA). I think I've gone through all the settings to verify the correct account is being used. Any advice on what I can do/try next? Thank you!

SP 2010 - Getting "An unexpected error has occurred. " message when accessing Sharepoint site after windows update - Windows 7 Home Premium
Hi,
I am new to SP 2010. I have installed Share point 2010 server (trial version) on my Windows 7 Home Premium Laptop by following the below link.

Everything went fine and was able to see the new sharepoint site after completing configuration wizard. SP2010 Central Admin also worked fine.However, after windows update, sharepoint site is not working. I was able to see the site working for more than a day before windows update. SP2010 Central Admin is still working. Executed "PSCONFIG" after update but still no good.
I saw a warning "The Security Token Service is not available" in Central Admin and did some research to fix the issue but nothing worked.

I even tried to uninstall Sharepoint and re-install the same. It worked even second time until it went thro' windows update. App pools are running and Websites are up and running in IIS.
Can anyone please help me to fix this issue?

SP2010 - duplicate sharepoint lists (How to delete)?
Hello,
In one of the site collection, When I go to "View all site content", i see the list twice with the same GUID. So when I make an update to any one, eventually both the lists gets that update. Since GUID is same, SharePoint is treating it just one list so I cannot one as well since It gets deleted both.
Have you seen this kind of weird issue? How to remove one?
Please help!

how to Segragetate and secure data in Single SharePoint Farm 2013 with multiple web applications
I have need to separate and secure data in two distinct SharePoint web applications within single SharePoint Farm.
Env: SP enterprise 2013 with Services and Search set up to be shared across multiple web applications.
Web application A has sensitive information ( Runs under its own Application Pool and host name) secure to only specific groups
Web application B has non-sensitive information ( Runs under its own Application Pool and host name) secure but open to all
Both web applications need all service application functionality so the web app A & B are set to default the shared services (Search).
However, I DON'T want Web application B users to do a search and the result returns links to sensitive documents in Web App A.
However I DO want Web Application A to find documents in Web application B.
Is there a security impact right now on how I have shared services setup ? I know search handles security trimming

SharePoint 2013 Site Collection shows logged on as different credential
Hi
I am getting report from from users who said when they access various Site Collections (not all the sites) and the logon credential at the top right hand conner show someone else credential.
like user login the network as domain\John Doe and access a site collection and the credential at the top right hand conner show Mary West...
This happen only when they access SharePoint sites. I have never seen anything like this or couldn't find any information relate to this behavior
Anyone have seen this or have any advise or suggestion where i can begin to troubleshoot, please advice

Access Denied to Site Collection for Everyone Including Site Collection Administrator
I have a site collection with several subsites which I can no longer access. I am listed as both a farm administrator and site collection administrator in this installation. I can access a separate site collection on the same web application, and I can access the Central Administration site. All accounts including mine, get an access denied error when navigating to any site on the aformentioned site collection.
I was not having any access issues until this morning when I was doing some housekeeping and changing group membership at the root site level, and also deleting a few custom sharepoint groups that were no longer needed. At some point after deleting one of these custom groups, I began getting the access denied errors.
I found the error below in the uls viewer, but haven't seen anything that looks related in the windows application log. I had some similar issues yesterday, but was able to resolve them by toggling Inherit Permissions, Stop Inheriting permissions from a subsite using SharePoint Designer. I've had no such luck with SharePoint Designer today. I've scoured this forum and the web for a solution, but have not found any issue that looked the same as mine. Any help would be appreciated.

ACCESS DENIED when trying to use custom site template to create new Subsite
I am trying to create a new site using a custom template. I am the new admin here at the company. Other also are having "access denied" errors when trying to create the site using these custom templates.
However I can still create a site using the out of the box templates. I have given myself site collection admin (primary) and I am a farm administrator as well. Any ideas on why I keep getting access denied to specific templates?
The entire site collection is using the custom template. When I try to create a new site under the site collection with a custom template now, it says "access denied". Any ideas?

Note - I am able to use the Custom Site Templates in the test environment without any issues. Only in the production/live environment am I getting the access denied error.

Removed Missing Dependencies > Missing Features, reanalyzed, now 9x more Missing Dependencies....
I'm using the excellent Phil Childs get-scripts Powershell scripts to clear out some Missing Dependencies. There were Missing Feature, MissingSetupFile, and MissingAssembly referencences, all related to the same wsp that is no longer in use and was retracted. http://get-spscripts.com/2011/06/removing-features-from-content-database.html
I removed some Missing Features, reanalyzed, and the 15 item Missing Dependencies list, instead of shrinking, is now at 134 items.
I’m going to try and figure out cause before I start chugging through these. Any recommendations?

SharePoint Management Shell Add-PsSnapin error
Dear All,
I got an error before
"The local farm is not accessible. Cmdlets with FeatureDependencyId are not registered."
I checked out the SharePoint_config database permission all it set then i found a post that define to run the Management shell with -version 2
so i update my sharepoint management shell shortcut to

Site collection creation is stuck on Processing
Hi All,
We have recently received an Issue where site collection is getting stuck on Processing and under ULS Logs the Error message is "A large block of literal text was sent to SQL " we cannot create the site collection from any of the template except from Blank site.
We have tried to run the PSConfig wizard and IIS Reset and Restart of computer. The Patch level of SharePoint is service pack 1.
Does this issue has any relation with ASP.net session state service as in the health analyzer we are getting the "Expired sessions are not being deleted from the ASP.NET Session State database."

Error Removing SharePoint Task Attachments via Outlook
Hello,
I'm having some trouble with my SharePoint (2010) task list when handling attachments via Outlook (2007 SP3). I created a set of simple Outlook macros for updating SharePoint tasks. I can create and update the tasks without issue and even attach files to the task which successfully sync with SharePoint. The error comes when attempting to remove the attachment:
Task 'SharePoint' reported error (0x80004005) : 'One or more items failed to copy. Changes that were made to their attachments are not compatible with the server. The failed items were moved to your Local Failures folder and replaced with copies from the server. For details, see the log file .'At first I figured it was my macros so I manually created a SharePoint task and attached a file in Outlook. When I manually attempted to delete the file I received the same error. Researching the error lead to two issues: uploading PDLs and Assigned SharePoint contact missing valid email. I checked for both and neither are the case.
As info, the SharePoint list was connected to Outlook per the instructions found on other pages. Is there some limitation to removing task attachments in SharePoint? Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

WFE Server are not showing under "Servers in Farm"

I have 4 servers, one wfe,two app and one db server.recently i found my WFE server is not listed under "Servers in Farm" but portal is running fine."Servers in Farm" i can find only two app and one DB server.
Please help to me ,how to add without effecting on production environment portal.
May be its happen because of recently we had make clone of wfe server on different location for development environment before one week,we do disconnect farm and then connect new db server for development environment.

Unknown server tag 'SPSWC:CategoryNavigationWebPart'
Hello SharePointers,
I'm migrating a SharePoint 2003 farm to SharePoint 2013 using the attach - upgrade content database method. The migration process to 2007 was fine, no errors here. But the process to 2010 came with some errors. After completing the upgrade in 2010, when opening the portal, the following message was displayed

not load type'Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls.HomePage from assembly Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal
I removed it, and them, another surprise
Unknown server tag 'SPSWC:CategoryNavigationWebPart'.
Then i figured two problems here.
First: The tag 'SPSWC:CategoryNavigationWebPart'were found inside every default.aspx (welcomepage of every subsite). Removing it implies in remove the navigation menu, and the tag is inserted within default.aspx. Not the page layout, neighter the masterpage. (the portal has about 430 subsites. It is a lot of pages to edit / tags to remove )
Second: The tag in this context is the navigation tag. Removing it implies to remove the portal navigation (Maybe recreating the masterpage and a new page layout would insert the navigation again)
How do I completely upgrade my 2003 to 2013 ? Do I need to remove it manually (programatically) ?

MegaMenu using SharePoint Global Navigation
I want to display the SharePoint Global Navigation as a megamenu. I have been investigating this for quite a while and all solutions say to create a list then build navigation from there. I do not want to build a list as this means having to update the list when new sub-sites are added / deleted - it is not automatic like the global navigation.
Because our site is getting bigger, we want to display the navigation similar to the ones below. Can you create this in SharePoint using the Global Navigation? If so, how would you do it (e.g. with CSS) and do you know of any examples?

custom link list
I know how to create a custom list and create links in it, however, is there a way to allow the user to select what page they want to add the link to? If I do a custom list with a custom field set to hyperlink, the user has to know the URL, I'd like to let them select the page they want to link to. Is there a list or way to do that using an OOTB list?
