Upgrade a MOSS application with default zone AD and extranet zone FBA

Hi, I'm flipping through http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg144572.aspx#section1 and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee806890(v=office.14).aspx, but wanted to get a high-level understanding of what I need to do here.

In case further information is needed, I have a single MOSS site that uses a default zone site for internal users authenticating through passthrough AD, and extranet zone authenticating through FBA to a separate LDAP server.

The sites are hosted on separate servers.

Can someone list the steps I'll need to take to replicate this model in 2010?

Much appreciated,

Scott

I am getting the following error:

Title

Database has large amounts of unused space.

Severity

3 - Information

Category

Availability

Explanation

Following databases have large amounts of space allocated on the disk but not in use. This may be due to recent deletion of data form the database, or because the database has been pre-grown to a larger size. This database will take up a larger amount of space on the file system unless it is shrunk down to a smaller size. WebAnalyticsServiceApplication_ReportingDB_0000000000000-000000000-00000000000 on DataBaseServer\SQLInstance

Remedy

The database can be shrunk in size using the DBCC ShrinkDatabase command or the Shrink Database wizard in SQL Server Management Studio. For more information about this rule, see "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=167144".

OpenDocument Addon breaking

Hi!

We are running Sharepoint 2010.  Our users are running Windows 7. Office 2010. IE 9.

We do have some Office 2013 components (Lync 2013 and a few users have Visio 2013).

Everytime we install or modify a 2013 component we have to repair Office 2010 because the Sharepoint OpenDocument Addon stops working.

When you click on a document from Sharepoint (xlsx for example) it normall asks to Open Read Only or Open Modify. When the addon stops working users only have the options Open.. Save.. or Save As... (choosing open opens read-only) with no Sharepoint notions (doesnt even tell you this is readonly)

Not sure where to start. Thoughts?

Thanks

preserving document dates while migrating to 2010

To migrate from MOSS 2007 to SP 2010 there is a requirement like date of all documents in MOSS 2007 server has to be preserved.

What is the way to implement that?

If any specialized code is code is required for this... pl share link for that code.

Hi everybody!

I am configuring a sharepoint 2013 farm. I have a SAN with 20TB for all my databases. I find in microsoft site sharepoint 2013 farm indexing server a 500GB hard disk requirement. I wanna to know is this hard requirement for Index databases???

If this hard is for index databases, which one give me better performance: I save index databases such as all other databases in farm onSAN or save index databases on hard disk of search index server itself???

Thanks for your time in advance...

Integrating Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and Search Server Express

$

I've been searching for ways to do this but I haven't come up with anything.  Surely this is a very common need/want.  Basically I want to use Sharepoint Foundation 2010 but I would like to run Search Server Express in the same installation.  Additionally instead of going to a dedicated search page and then searching, I'd like to add the Search Server Express search functionality as a Web Part to the Sharepoint Foundation home page.  Is there any documented procedures to this?  If not how have you done it?

Report Server URL field no longer visible in Dashboard Designer after applying SP1 and the October 2011 CU

Environment: 1 WFE on W2K8Ent x64 SP2 | 1 App Server on W2K8 Standard x64 SP2 | 1 Dedicated SQL Server 2008 R2

SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Edition

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recently applied SP1 and the October 2011 CU (Server updates, not foundation) on both the WFE and the App server and now I'm experiencing an issue with PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer in that when I want to deploy a new SSRS report, I no longer have the ability to indicate the report server url under the report settings section because it's missing.  I also do not have the ability to preview the report nor can I modify any of the settings like Zoom or Format as they're greyed out.

I've been researching for several days now and cannot find anything to remedy my issue. I have reviewed the upgrade logs on both the WFE and App server ... I ran the product config wizard after applying the SP and the update ... Sharepoint is configured to use Windows Integrated Mode for the reporting services configuration via Central Admin.

I noticed that the web config for my app was updated and compared that against a backup of the old web config and I mainly see diffs in version references for reporting services, etc.  (Ex. version 10 in the old, 11 in the new/updated config file).

Anyone else out there have this same issue?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Chad

Share Point 2010 and Kerberos issues

We have set up Share Point 2010 on a local servers system in house server for these purposes

  • Analyst services
  • Power Pivot
  • Performance Point

This system will connect to our Share Point in the cloud and we need Kerberos to make this connection for user rights.  We are setup with a three server environment

  • SQL server (all Share Point databases, and Reporting services databases)
  • 2 Share Point severs (load balanced server farm)
    • Analyst services
    • Power Pivot
    • Performance Point
    • Reporting Services
    • Application and Web portal to Share Point

I used the Microsoft document “identity delegation for performance point services (Share Point 2010)”

I have all the correct service accounts created and the SPN’s in with no duplicates in AD.

When I run the Dashboard Designer, and do a test connection with the unattended service account everything works.  When I do the same test with the peruser setting I get this message(This action cannot complete because PerformancePoint Services is not configured correctly.  Additional details have been logged for your administrator)

I have gone over all the setting and they are correct.  How can I test to see what is wrong or get better error message to help narrow down the problem?  I feel like I’m chasing my tail.

SharePoint document caching

hello -   I have an externally facing site where users download excel and pdf documents.   The download time is too long in some cases.  I want to improve performance by enabling caching.  I see that SharePoint offers 3 different caching options.  I'm thinking BLOB caching is the route I should take , but was wondering if there's any harm in using all 3 methods?

SharePoint 2010 upgrade UNC paths in document library are not hyperlinks anymore

$

Hello,

I recently upgraded my SharePoint server from 2007 to 2010 version using the database attach method. One difference that I cannot fix is in document libraries where there are plain text fields that have a UNC path they are not hyperlinks anymore. With the 2007 version of SharePoint all of these UNC paths are hyperlinks to the documents there. After upgrading only some of them are still hyperlinks and it depends on which view I am using to look at the files, some views still have the links and others do not. We are still using the old look of SharePoint and have not done the visual upgrade, I am not sure if that is related to this problem. When I create a view exactly the same as a view that does have working hyperlinks, none of the entries are hyperlinks in the copy of the view. The views are all based off of forms and adding different content types does not make a difference in the way this works, neither does following these steps:

Following are the steps to achieve this.

1) Create a site content type of type "link to a document" with "Document" as a parent content type.
2) Add the same to the document library.
3) Go in the layouts folder open newlink.aspx in Visual Studio IDE
4) add the following function to the script tag

Code Snippet
function HasValidUrlPrefix_Override(url)
        {
            var urlLower=url.toLowerCase();
            if (-1==urlLower.search("^http://") &&
            -1==urlLower.search("^https://") && -1==urlLower.search("^file://"))
            return false;
            return true;
        }
5) Replace "HasValidUrlPrefix" to "HasValidUrlPrefix_Override" in the newlink.aspx
6) IISReset and when adding a link to a file share. It shoudl be done in the following format "file://\\{ComputerName}\\}FileName}" it should work
7) Change the wss resource file present in app_globalresources to show the following message "Enter a valid document name and URL.  Valid URLs must begin with 'http:' or 'https:' or 'file://'"

From: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/3f2c34cc-5686-4e03-ba26-092aaa29ff33/link-from-document-library-to-unc-path

Is there some site setting or something in Central Administration I can change to get this working?

SharePoint 2010 Farm Recovery

Hi All,

I am managing a SharePoint 2010 server and as a part of the disaster recovery plan I have to prepare a failover server where if something happens to the production server, the failover server becomes the production immediately without downtime.

The configuration should be a standalone farm configuration on each machine and both have different computer names.

The main issue that I a having is that  I am trying to do a full backup and trying to do full recovery in the failvover machine but I keep getting errors. Is this the best approach?

I am also thinking on doing database mirroring for each of the databases, would this option work or should I only mirror the content database and forget the configuration database?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi everyone,

I have a question about Alert.

We have set up an alert to sent email to a group of people when the document under this library has been modified or new document has been added. One subsite has an issue that the user received the email with wrong document ID.

Normally, when the document has been added, the notice email only has Title line but not include the Document value and ID. And this document is on other subsite!

And the setting for Alert is

Anyone know what's the problem and how to fix it?

Thank you in advance!

List tools tab was missing

Hi there, I have another question today :)

On of our employees configured a custom list for his needs and also added a second filtered view. Today the list tools tab was missing, it looked like the permissions were gone but that was wrong. Permissions were correctly set and I was logged on as an site collection admin. I managed to get the list tools tab by creating a new view with SharePoint Designer, because I didn´t see another way to get in the list settings.

Now I´m wondering how this happend, I haven´t seen a way to disable the tools tab without removing permissions. Has anyone an idea?

Thank you, Sascha

hello,

we have 3 server sharepoint 2010 farm as a live system and a 1 server for development and test system. I've got a problem with one of our portals that gives correlation ID (in 2 or 3 times a week) on all my dataview web parts (total 8 Dataview WP) until i make IIS reset for that portal. (but same portal works like magic on test system over 3 weeks now). there is no custom code in the page other than the customized masterpage and css. and just reseting the IIS solves the problem for a couple of days but i need to fix that permanantly. if anyone can help me about that i will be happy. thank you all in advance.
