In one requirement, i have custom ribbon action that invokes a java script method written in a java script file. This java script file is part of layout folder. this java script further invoke a web service using ajax. Solution is packaged as wsp.
We are facing a problem make the URL of web service configurable. After a lot of thinking i have decided that i will give separate version of this file for each environment. Support team will first install the wsp and later replace the java script file in layout folder in 14hive manually.
I suppose approach should work file, today someone from support told me.
1. that for security reasons, manual changes are prohibited in layout folder. I have checked the Dev and QC environment i am able to make the changes in layout manually.
2. second issue is, support told me that sometime custom changes in layout folder disappeared after SharePoint service packs installations.
Could anyone please help me here?
