hi

I have installed Microsoft SharePoint Server and Project Server 2010.

notes:

  1. I'm using Intranet and active directory accounts
  2. Server performance such as CPU Usage, Ram Usage, ... is OK
  3. host header and SSL (https) is used for SharePoint Web Application
  4. SQL Server Enterprise edition installed in one Server and SharePoint server with project server installed on another server (I have 2 servers: DB and Web Server)
  5. I have Installed SP2 (KB2687452) Successfully

Dear Members!

WE would like to use documents at SharePoint team web folder, but documents cannot be accessible for all the users.

Based on my experience if I change the folder access at the user setup page, than after modification made, user will not be able to access even for the web group page.

Are there any possibility to create subfolders folders inside the team web SharePoint where access of the folders can be regulated i.e. some user cannot able to enter and see all the folders?

Thanks,

Peter

SharePoint 2010 - farm - Data Centre Migration -

Hi

SharePoint 2010 Intranet farm is migrated from one data centre to another by following the below approach.

  • New SharePoint 2010 farm is built in new data centre
  • Service Applications created & the data restored from old instance
  • Content restored in new farm from back ups from old instance
  • My Sites are built from scratch and the content migrated from the scratch
  • MMS service Guid issue resolved using PowerShell

Like to know the highly likely issues in new farm (New Domain) and the level of testing for the new farm.

SharePoint 2010 SQL move failed - Trying to go back to org fails

We have a small farm (1 APP/WFE and 1 DB) that needed to have the DB changed to a new server. I disconnected the DBs (Config/Content) and the DBA moved the DBs to the new server. Trying to connect to new server failed so we are now trying to revert to old server. I noticed that all the sites were gone in IIS. When I run the Config Wizard, it does bring back the original web applications and does *not* bring back CA.  The errors show below. Has anyone seen this before? I tried the same port as the original CA and a new port, both failed.

Adding a column to document library

$

I have a document library that will have a view "My Documents". I can not use the created by or modified by fields to filter as the person uploading documents is not one of the people who will be accessing the documents.

I tried adding a column "Belongs to" and having the field display a list of users in a drop down pick list. This way when documents are uploaded, the user has to indicate who the document belongs to.

I then applied the filter Belongs to is equal to [Me] and it threw an error because the filter was invalid. I checked and the column is of type choice not person or group. How do I add a column of type person or group that can be filled from a drop down list containing the names of specific users?

Incorrect user profile shows up in one site collection

$

I'm experiencing some strange user profile related issue described below and would appreciate some help.  In summary, I

Here is what happened:

- One employee whose logon was 'kim' left the company

- that user account was deleted from Active Directory but apparently was NOT deleted from our accounting database

- Another user with last Kim joined the company and the IT department created an account for her with username 'kim' (since that original account was delet

- later on, IT was notified that the "kim" account (for the old employee) is still in the accounting database, so IT renamed that new account they created from "kim" to "mkim" as the username.

- So, what I think happened a this point was that the new user's account was associated with that previous user's user profile

- After that I fixed this issue (or so I thought).  I don't remember what I did.  I think I deleted that user profile and then ran full user profile synchronization.

So, what's happening now is that there is ONE site collection where somehow this "fix" did not get apply.  So, if I go to this site collection, site settings, site permissions, grant permissions, in the people picker I click the book icon to look up the user, enter "kim" then it finds the "mkim" account BUT the user information (first, last name, phone etc) is from that FIRST employee, i.e. the one that originally had the "kim" account.  This only happens on this one site collection.  All other site collections show the correct user profile for the "mkim" account.

Is there any way to fix this for this one site collection?

thanks,

Audit Log and Custom Report configuration questions and recommendations

$

I want to set up auditing on my dev SP farm and need to know if this is set up properly, plus if there were recommendations for a better configuration. The proof of concept is as follows:

in Run a Custom Report > Customize:

  • Automatically trim the audit log for the site? Yes
  • Location: Restrict this report to /apps/salaries/list
  • Date Range: 6/1/2015 - 6/15/2015
  • Users: none specified, want to see all users
  • Events: all checked

Current Audit settings: I'm having a little trouble understanding some of these. Does this mean that every 60 days, a log file will be created in /AnalyticsReports containing the previous 60 days of log information? So if I wanted to generate a Custom Report on user action data from ~90 days ago (as in the example above), would that logging data be accessed by the Custom Report's query?

  • Automatically trim the audit log for the site? Yes
  • Number of days of audit log data to retain: 60
  • Location to store audit reports before trimming audit log: /AnalyticsReports
  • Documents and Items: all are selected
  • List LIbraries and Sites: all

Thanks in advance,

Scott

SSRS Service Application failure

Our developers reported that the SSRS service application was not functioning on their development server.

Opening System Settings throws this error in the ULS log:

System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException: Object already exists.

at System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException.ThrowCryptogaphicException(Int32 hr)

Looking at the properties of the SSRS Reporting Database with PowerShell shows a status of disabled.

I'm banging my head with this. I tried recreating the service application and reconnecting to the database but the error still remains. Any thoughts are welcome.

Navigation Cancelled Error Message when clicked on Keywords in About Me on My Sites

Hi,

We are facing a not so common issue on our SharePoint 2010 Farm, where our My Profile is implemented for users within our Intranet Site. Users are allowed to Edit the Profile and add Keywords to the User Profile Fields (i.e. About Me).

The challenge is, when any other user navigates to the Profile Page of a colleague and clicks on the Keywords within the About Me Field, The appropriate action of an Email Client opens up with the Keyword in the Subject. But at the same time, another browser page gets opened with a error message "Navigation Cancelled".

Can anyone provide some direction on resolving this issue.

Thanks

Ram

Server won't reflect SP/CU number

We have a farm that a previous employee configured. There's tons of problems..

To make it short we are trying to join another server to this farm.. We got to the point where we have to make everything the same build number. In this example SP1.. I installed SP1 on all servers and they are all reflecting the same build except for 1.. The server is the SQL server and also hosts SSRS.. On Add/Remove program it reflects the actual build number but on central admin it doesn't.. I tried to repair SharePoint for that particular server but getting this error

"Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Configuration did not complete successfully

"Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connections to the network or CD-ROM Drive........"

I already tried a SharePoint executable and an ISO but no help

I also tried the configuration wizard on this  problem server but stops on task 2 of 10 then gives out this error: Configuration Failed. Failed to initiate the upgrade sequence. An exception of type System.Data.SQLclient.SqlException was thrown........

While looking at the log I saw this "Discovered a v4 connection string and SPFarm.Local indicates that this machine is not joined. This is possible during B2B upgrade."

But again this server is joined to the domain and has SP1 but it's still reflecting as 14.0.4763.1000 in Central admin ..

Kindly please help :(

Re-adding UPS Sychronization Connection

I have a SharePoint 2010 User Profile Service Sychronization service that has acted up in the past and now I find that it's flat out refused to start. I did some investigating and found that somehow the User Profile Service service application has lost its Synchonization connections; there are none showing up in the Synchronization connection list. I plan to do the following:

1.Delete and recreate the User Profile Service service application using the current UPS databases.

2.Create a new synchronization connection.

I don't want users to lose their Mysite data. My question is, if I recreate a new connection, will this affect the current users' data?

Search Service SQL Transaction Log not truncating when in "Full" backup mode

$

The log file for one of SharePoint 2010 Search databases “FASTContent_CrawlStoreDB” periodically fails to truncate after being fully backed up (in this case, by 3rd party backup system – CommVault). This is not happening for other SharePoint databases. This database is part of an always on availability group in SQL 2014, and we note this, because remaining in “Full” backup mode is required. We’re guessing that a query is locking the log file, and preventing it’s truncation.

A work-around we’ve used is temporarily removing the DB from the always on group, then setting it to simple mode, then shrinking the log file, but this leaves the DB unprotected against server failure, and so we have to put it back in, then repeat the process if this happens again with the log file. This is why we want to troubleshoot the core issue of the log file growth.

Any ideas?

SMTP server required ON the SP Farm for incoming email enabled lists?

$

I'm looking at a SP 2010 farm that is pointing to an SMTP server not on the server in the Central Admin Outgoing email settings, and there is no SMTP server on either of the WFE's.

I'm trying to get incoming email to work after enabling it in Central Admin and on the list I want to use it on, and while the email account is not a real email account for my email enabled list, it appears to be a recognized email address when I type it into the To line in an outlook message, however; the email returns a delivery failure when I send it. I suspect that this is because I have no SMTP server running on the WFE. Is this likely the cause, and will there be a conflict if I install an SMTP server on one of the WFE's? Also, how will this work since the outgoing email settings are pointing to an SMTP server not in the farm?

Contribute Permission Issue (Sharepoint 2010)

It appears that all of my sites in one of my site collections that have users with the contribute permission are not able to see the create button for creating new lists/libraries, etc. Has anyone ever come across this issue before?

If I give design permissions along with the contribute they can see the button, same as full control. I have verified that the correct default permissions are correct for Contribute.

Any information on this would be appreciated.

Thanks Kim

I should also mention that if you navigate to
