use default feature in ie11 home page

Hi

My home page got changed somehow and ie11 now uses the default page. I cannot seem to change this setting. internet options is greyed out and no typed input is accepted.

Is there a default page file I can change?

How did this get changed by an unauthorized third party?

Why does defender get disabled and allow this to happen?

AAM Question

Hi,

I have a confusing scenario here.

I have web application https://abc set up to use windows+forms authentication which works fine in default zone with custom sign in page

Then i created url https://bcd and point it to the same web application https://abc and did AAM at intranet zone. Now problem is bcd only load default login page and when choosing FBA it gives 404 not found. I think this is accepted behavior since from web application authentication, the scheme was applied to just default zone.

- Confusion is my end users tell me it used to work with the way it was set up. Meaning bcd even in intranet zone would load custom sign in page and work as expected. The things started happening since this sunday when i applied March PU. Even i think it was working the way users are explaining since i set it up and did the testing.

If i change bcd to internet zone to default zone, when any body types bcd it gets redirected to abc and everything works as expected.

- Users do not want bcd to get redirected to abc since they are trying to create bran for bcd. I know i can extend web application to different zone and make it work.

I wanted to know if scenario 1 is possible and the things get broken due to patching.

Best to use SitePages Or Pages library?

$

Hello SharePoint Family,

I am lost/confused on which library to use when building simple pages out.  I love using the Pages library due to it totally allowing me to customize the SEO data within the page 100% and also gives the user different layout options but I am unable to edit any of the pages in the Quick launch area. I can only hide and never delete/edit page links in quick launch at all.

Using SitePages library, I cannot edit SEO at all and not able to allow users the different layout options but I can fully adjust the quick launch bar links from this library with no problem.

Is there a recommended library to use 100% when creating simple basic team pages?

Thanks N Advance

Peoplepicker issues in a Network Load-balanced farm

$

Our environment:

1 VM application server (Central admin & search), 2 (VM) WFE servers (Load balanced), 1 SQL server (clustered).

SharePoint 2010 + SP2 + Nov2014 CU

Two Domains (One way trust).

The Issue:

We recently started to have problems getting results back from users in a secondary domain when searching through the people-picker control in SharePoint to grant user permissions.

In specific, I'm referring to the window that pops up after clicking the "Browse" icon; the window title reads "Select People and Groups".

The behavior is as follows: (Assuming we have two domains named: Domain A and Domain B, where Domain A is the domain SharePoint was configured at).

1) In a new test site collection, At the Grant permissions page, I click "browse" at the people picker, the "Select people and groups" windows pops up. *Note that I am testing in a new site collection in order to have a clean "user information list".

2)I enter a user or group from Domain B in the search box and click "search" (or hit enter). *note: My user that I'm logging with into SharePoint is from Domain A.

3)I get "No results were found to match your search item" in red.

This behavior was intermittent, sometimes I would get results, sometimes get nothing. Also, when I asked colleagues to run the same test in their PCs they will report different results (searching for same user in domain B). Results for users in Domain A will come up with no issues.

I connected remotely into the SharePoint servers (WFE servers) and ran the same test with users in Domain B. The issue seems to be present in Server #1, but server #2 returns user results without issues. *The sharepoint servers have windows host file entries that point the web application names back to themselves. for example: sharepoint.company.com <server local ip address>

At this point I'm getting the Network Admin involved.

After several hours troubleshooting along with the network admin, we hit a dead end. He says that there are no network rules interfering with the communication between the failing server (server #1) and the Domain B domain controller.

The Network admin took network traffic samples during the testing and he was able to see traffic flowing through the server #2 (that is, between the sharepoint server and the domain controller), but nothing on server #1 (that is, no traffic between server and domain controller when searching in peoplepicker, otherwise the SharePoint server seems healthy).

At this point I'm not sure where to look next.

Any ideas on what could be wrong, if anything in the SharePoint server itself?

Thanks!

Re-order is not assigning the correct order number to the item.

I have implemented the following solution

How to ReOrder SharePoint List Items  SharePoint 2013

http://pgbhoyar.com/2013/05/15/how-to-reorder-sharepoint-list-items-using-custom-codepowershell-and-sharepoint-designer-in-sharepoint-2010-and-sharepoint-2013-2/

BUT I am having a problem.

I have implemented this solution for publishing pages document library but when you re-order the pages the correct order is not assigned to the page.

For example the publishing pages initially are assign the following order numbers.

page A is 100

Page B is 200

Page C is 300

when you select re-order and you move all the pages the numbers all become the same number.

Page A is 150

Page B is 150

Page C is 150

when you create a new page E it will be 400.

Users cannot create My Site; Access Denied

I discovered today that the limited number of users that are allowed to create personal sites cannot. They receive an 'Access Denied' error if they try. I am apparently the only one who can but I am a Farm Admin.

I have checked and re-checked the setup and cannot find anything wrong.  Self-Service Site Creation is turned on for the MySites web application and the User Profile Service application user permissions are configured using Active Directory security groups for the users in question.  The groups have Use Personal Features, Create Personal Site and Use Social Features enabled.

I have run the stsadm -o sync findolddatabases and the deletolddatabases commands on the Central Admin server under the Farm Admin account and run a full profile synchronization but the problem persists.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello,

When you open a excel file in sharepoint it uses xlviewer.aspx, is there a url parameter to open the file in 75% zoom mode?  Or a way to have it open full screen?  Basically would like to be able to open a spreadsheet full screen without having to scroll down or to the right, etc.

Thanks!

Can't access Central Administration

Hi all,

I have a strange issue that I need help to solve.

I got a new computer, and suddenly I can't access Central Administration.
Browsing to CA prompts me for credentials, witch it never have done before.
And if I enter my credentials I get prompted again until I get a blank page. Same if I try to enter the logon information for farm account.

Everything works fine from my old computer, both with IE11.
We have two servers running SharePoint Standard 2010, and it is the same issue on both.

Any idea what I could check?

Best regards,

Error when deploying SP2010 Project server April 2015 CU

IN a 4 server farm, the April 2015 CU for SP2010  (with Project server) went on fine on 3 of the servers. On the web front end server, it gave an error: An error occurred when running detection. Checking patches on the servers and Farm, it shows that this one server is reporting Microsoft Document Lifecycle Components :

Update for Microsoft Project Server 2010 (KB2965293) 64-Bit Edition  14.0.7145.5000 Missing/Required

All other servers have this KB2965293 listed as "Superseded" and so does the farm. Last patch cycle had completed without errors.

And errors reported with the following

Microsoft Document Lifecycle Components : Update for Microsoft Project Server 2010 (KB2965293) 64-Bit Edition 14.0.7144.5000 Missing/Required

Microsoft Search Server 2010 Core:  Update for Microsoft Project Server 2010 (KB2965293) 64-Bit Edition 14.0.7145.5000 Missing/Required

Microsoft Shared Components: Update for Microsoft Project Server 2010 (KB2965293) 64-Bit Edition 14.0.7145.5000 Missing/Required

keeps repeating this error for many other components and finally gives the error:Warning: The
farm servers do not currently have the same product and patch level as each
other. Upgrade should not be run on any farm server until all farm servers have
the same set of required products and patches installed

Tried Get-SPProduct–Local in the management shell of the server with issues and get the error:

PS C:\Users\mp> Get-SPProduct -local

At line:1 char:14

Appreciate any assistance to fix this.

Could not load all ISAPI filters for site 'SHAREPOINT - after installing Framework 1.1 for something

I installed framework 1.1 for something and now ONLY the SharePoint sites are not working. All my other .NET sites are running without a problem.

I have run aspnet_regiis.exe –i to install 2.0 but it tells me installation is complete. My SharePoint sites still won't run.

So what would the steps be to get them working agian. I can't understand why ONLY the SharePoint sites are not working properly.  I have the application pools set to 2.0 so not sure why.

Any Help is Appreciated.

Event ID: 8088
Event Description: The Managed Metadata Service 'Managed Metadata Service' is inaccessible.

Not a very detailed error.  ULS does not expand on the error either.  I ensured that the MMS Service Account has full control to the service.  I also put the account in the Term Store Administrators but that did not fix the issue.  I reset the MMS on all servers in the farm as well, no luck.

Any ideas?

Companyweb site won't start. Can't bind port 80.

$

Hello Everyone,

I am having some trouble with the default companyweb site on our SBS2011 server. It was a migration from SBS 2003 but went quite smoothly except the companyweb site has never worked. (This is a HP server using a HP ROK SBS and the HP installer).

As a sbs newbie I stupidly ran the sharepoint configuration wizard which created the sharepoint 80 site and stuffed everything up, but I've deleted that site as per various other posts I've read.

Our OWA and RWW are working perfectly both internally and externally, but companyweb refuses to play.

Browsing to http://companyweb yields the standard IIS7 splash screen.

If I browse to https://companyweb:987 after passing the certificate warning, I get a nice graphical "access denied" error message with "current user. You are currently signed in as DOMAIN\USER". If I sign in as a different user (even the domain administrator) I get the same error. I also get the above error if I try locally on the server itself logged in as the domain administrator, however I suspect this may be due to the sharepoint permissions being wrong (a different issue).

When I jump into IIS manager and try to start the site manually I get "the web site cannot be started. Another web site may be using the same port" error. I also notice that the "companyweb" site is bound to port 80 as https rather than http.

I've checked all the bindings and application pool identities against KB 2619402 and they are all fine and match with the exception of the companyweb binding which contains the secure (https) entry rather than the normal http entry.

If I try to add the http entry I get the error "the specified port is being used by a different binding".

So then I query "%systemroot%\system32\inetsrv\APPCMD list sites" I get the following....

SITE "Default Web site" (id:1,bindings:http/127.0.0.1:80:,net.tcp/808:*,net.pipe/*,net.msmq/localhost,msmq.formatname/localhost,https/*:443:,http/*:80:,https/12
7.0.0.1:443:,state:Started)
SITE "WSUS Administration" (id:1572271583,bindings:http/:8530:,https/:8531:,state:Started)
SITE "SBS Client Deployment Applications" (id:2,bindings:Http/*:80:connect,http/*:80:SBSConnectComputer,state:Started)
SITE "SharePoint Web Services" (id:3,bindings:http/*:32843:,https/*:32844:,net.tcp/32845:*,net.pipe/*,state:Started)
SITE "SharePoint Central Administration v4" (id:645291223,bindings:http/:32767:,state:Started)
SITE "SBS Sharepoint" (id:86195056,bindings:https/*:987:,state:Started)
SITE "Companyweb" (id:300177389,bindings:https/:80:companyweb,state:Stopped)

I've also built a new sbs 2011 install in a VM to work out what's going on, it of course it's working perfectly and all it's bindings are as above (with the exception of companyweb being http).

So basically I'm now stuck and looking for any ideas on how I can proceed.

Looking forward to any ideas...

Thanks

Darrin Smith

These External Content Types were created using SharePoint Designer 2010, and I would prefer not to manually recreate them. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Cannot start User Profile Synchronization Service

$

Hi All,

First some background information: I'm running SP2010 Enterprise which was deployed as a server Farm (SQL Server 2008 is on the same machine as SP). It wasn't me who installed it but now I have to deal with it. The guy who installed it did it from his account. My account was added to Farm Administrators group. I'm also site collection admin.

Now what I'm trying to do is to set up user sync with AD. In CA->Manage Service Applications the "User Profile Service" is running.  But when I go to CA->Manage Services on server and try to start the "User Profile Synchronization Service" the account name is grayed out and what is already there is the "NT AUTHORITY\Network Service" and it expects the password for this account. Unfortunately I don't know this password thus cannot start this service.

How can I start this service? Could you help me with this one?

Thanks in advance!

OWSTimer holding usage files in memory; unable to delete through timer job

$

I have a couple of farms (#1 = 2010 Enterprise, SP1 w/ June 2012 CU; #2 = 2010 Enterprise, SP1 w/ Dec 2012 CU) and I'm having the same issue in each.

The timer job to import usage files (job-usage-log-file-import) is constantly receiving error messages regarding a failure to delete older usage files (Failed to delete usage log file 'D:\Logs\Usage\SPDEVWEB-20130910-0726.usage' after data import. Exception: System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.).

If I try to delete these manually, I receive an error of "The action can't be completed because the file is open in SharePoint 2010 Timer".

When I look at OWSTimer.exe process in Process Explorer, I can see that each log file that hasn't been delete is still being held in memory.  The only way to clear these files is to restart the OWSTimer service on each server, which doesn't seem to be the correct solution to this issue.

In the larger farm (#1), the OWSTimer services has consumed a large number of private bytes by holding these logs in memory and over time the usage logs are filling up the disk drive as they are not being properly cleared.  It took less than 1 month in farm #1 to consume 87 GB of space just for usage files.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue or can provide a resolution?  Any help is appreciated! :)
