AAM and Extending a Web App

Users encountered credential prompts when I created an AAM manually and added a binding in IIS.  I found the following article that states I should delete the manual creation and extend the web application to the zone I want it in:

I started doing this on the Manage Web Applications section in Central Admin to an existing Web Site (Sharepoint - 80), then stopped because I wanted to see the settings of the current web app.

Now, when I go back to try again, I click the current Web App, click Extend.  When I go to choose "Use an Existing IIS Web Site", the only thing available in the box is "SharePoint Web Services".  Where are the other IIS sites (Web Apps)?

I've tried iisreset, I've rebooted the SharePoint server, and it still stays that way.  Am I losing my mind here and that's what's supposed to be there? 

I believe I just wanted to extend the web app on the existing site and create the different host header and Public URL in the different zone...

People Picker - No results under Active Directory - only under 'Organization'

We have a 2010 environment that uses Kerberos Windows authentication.

When using the people picker and clicking the 'Browse Icon' we are presented on the left with;

- Organizations
- All Users
- Active Directory
- SharePoint Groups

Which indicate locations that SharePoint is going to query. When searching for 'Paul' across all of them, the following results are returned;

- All Search Results (200)
- - All Users (0)
- - Active Directory (0)
- - Organizations (200)

However on the results pane on the right hand side, all the results are listed under the title 'User: Active Directory'

So my questions are;

1. What does 'Organizations' represent? (We have the User Profile Service running but I always thought it was independent of this)

2. Why does the People Picker re-order the results putting 'Organizations' at the bottom when it starts at the top (pre-search).

There are other reasons I'm asking this as when you add in ADFS as an additional Authentication Provider it makes the people picker unusable.

Upgrading a SharePoint 2007 farm to SharePoint 2010 - Kerberos

Hi Everyone - I'm planing an upgrade of a 2007 environment to 2010.  Users use a CAC card to logon to the current environment. Would I be able to do an in place upgrade in such an environment? What would be some of the issues that I should look out for?

Sytem Service Account on Sharepoint 2010 farm lost access to configure managed accounts wizard

I had installed farm sharepoint 2010 with company domain account (as configured for SQL DB showed up as SYSTEM ACCOUNT ON LOGIN) as managed account using Command "New-SPMana....".

i used the managed account wizard to add one more account ; company_domain\account2.

Then setup up other stuff using configure Sharepoint wizard. On completion i found that i had entered key for Standard edition so i updated the farm using enterprise key so all features were updated.

once i restarted the domaind managed account "company_domain\account2" lost access to the administration site and the

one that was showing up as SYSTEM account previously could not access the configure managed account wizard pages and the manage service application pages.

Deploying a WFE in small farm - SharePoint 2010

Hi I'm deploying a small farm in a test environment. 1-SQL server(dbsrv1), 1 App server(appsrv1), and 1 WFE(Appsrv2). My sys admin gave me cloned and STG'd servers so when I did the install I couldn't configure WEB APP or site collection due to IE (on the servers) restricting scripts. I managed to deploy a web app and a site collection using powershell. 

I now want to be able to set up the wfe and serva all user requests specifically from that server.

How would I accomplish this and what would be the powershell commands that I would need to get the services started on the right VM, and ensure that all traffic gets routed to appsrv2?

problem with solutions

then i wanted to delete it and do this action in both CA and via management shell

but when i open my site i have this error

can any body help me.i should finish the site immidatly

Migrated MOSS to DEV 2010 Server site, error list GUIDs

Hi, I've run a Mount-SPContentDatabase.DB restore upgrade from a copy of my production MOSS db (SP2) to a DEV Server 2010 site.

Site came up and looks okay, but "Upgrade completed with errors." Reviewed the logs, matched the missing feature Ids their names using Feature Admin Tool. Some are custom features I recognize and will need to move over, others seem like Microsoft stock features, which I've listed below. What should I do about them? Do they get migrated, and if so, how?

One user gets a correlation id error when accessing SharePoint site.

This is a pretty strange issue that so far seems unique to one specific user.

We have two SharePoint environments, http://SharePointold andhttp://SharePointnew.

User A can log into http://SharePointold without a problem. But when it comes time forhttp://SharePointnew it does not work for her. She gets a correlation Id error. I have searched the logs on each of the servers for this error and I am finding nothing on this.

If another user uses that same machine, they get into http://SharePointnew without a problem. If User A goes to another desktop, the same error comes up. It works for other users on the other desktop. I have three correlation id errors and cannot find any of them in the log.

I did find out from the user that she had a name change about one month ago. But if she tries either login it doesn’t work. Her old login won’t even come back with an error.

Does anyone know of anything we can check for this? Could it be something in the User Profile service that needs to be checked?

Like I said she is the only one so far but the http://SharePointnew has not been rolled out company wide yet.

Any help is appreciated.

access denied error when trying to edit checked out page

When I check out a page and then try to edit it I get an access denied error.  Look at the url like this: http://mysite/_layouts/AccessDenied.aspx?Source=blah blah blah%2Fpress%2Easpx&Type=list&name=%7B12F370F4%2D0348%2D436C%2DB459%2DD15729568263%7D

and look up the list name that is causing the accessed denied error: %7B12F370F4%2D0348%2D436C%2DB459%2DD15729568263%7D  I see that it is Variation Labels (0) list.  When I go to the list it has unique permissions, but my user has access to the list.  Any idea what is going on here?

Need to install June 2013 CU

Well, I need June 2013 CU for SP2010 that fix a problem we have. However, I kept getting the "The expected version of the product was not found on the system" message (it is the re-released one in July). Then MS released SP2 so I tried to install that, SP2 got installed successfully however did not fix the problem we have so I still need the June 2013 CU (KB2817530). Anybody has any idea how to get June 2013 installed?

Rename a sharepoint Web application

I have created a sharepoint web application http://test-name.com and applied many customisations to it. Now i have to change the url tohttp://name.com . Is there any way to rename the URL so that i need not create a new web application and apply the customisations.

Access to SharePoint when AD Account is not a member of "domain users".

Hi all,

I have a scenario where I need to make "contractor" AD account that will be used by non-employees to access a certain portion of our SharePoint infrastructure. I created some test accounts, and a new default group (DOMAIN\ctr domain users) and added that group to the Builtin "Users" group.

Now, I grant access to SharePoint for the thousands of other AD accounts by adding DOMAIN\Domain Users with X permissions to our SharePoint sites. However, I do not want to allow these contractors to have access. So, when I created these accounts, I removed them from the "Domain users" group and assigned them to the "Ctr domain users" as their default group. 

I then assigned the "Ctr domain users" group permissions to the primary site they will be accessing at the top level. However, now when I try and access this specific SharePoint group with one of my test accounts, it just says Access Denied. What am I misisng from the group or account perspective? Is there some requirement in SharePoint that an AD account needs to be a member of Domain users to authenticate with SP?

SharePoint 2010 wouldn't work on one of the WAN

Ok, our sharepoint link is http://sharepont10 and for some reason it didn't work on one of our WAN site.

A Host(A) record is already added to DNS server for the correct ServerNameand IP address

A Alias(CNAME) record is already added to DNS server for the the name"Sharepoint10"and point to ServerName

we have three site with three subnets

LAN: 10.1.1.X (work)

Site1: 10.2.1.X (work)

Site2: 192.168.1.X (not working) --> The webpage cannot be found

Note: the URL for sharepoint was " http://Sharepoint10.domain.com" and we changed to just "http://Sharepoint10"

I checked the WAN's DNS servers, they are seems matched out. on the 192 site, I ping "sharePoint10" and get reply with the server's IP.

Anyone know why? DNS issue? IIS issue?

SharePoint 2010/2013 Dev environment setup - Domain questions

I'm designing a Hyper V SP dev environment.  We have about 8 production farms, all hanging off single forrest, single production domain.  So far my plan is for the Hyper V server and it's guests to also be on the same domain.

While researching I'm occasionally finding suggestions of creating an "APP Domain"

Also some people create a separate AD domain for the dev environment.

I don't understand the need to do either.  I've created a dev virtual guest with a separate DB, and plan on creating guests for each SP farm and reusing the same accounts as production.

how to schedule full user profile synchronization in sharepoint 2010

Hi,

I find that in sharepoint 2010 full user profile synchronization is not possible, i did not get the option to schedule full profile synchronization as we used to have in moss 2007.

could anyone let me know how can i schedule full profile import sync weekly.

Convert License Type > Enter the Product Key is greyed out

I've been reading up on this a bit. I'm not sure why it occurred. I downloaded SP Server 2010 and the Key from MSDN. There were no references to "Trial" or anything of that kind.

It appears that there are several suggested possible solutions:

  1. Recreate farm: not going to happen. Starting all over is not an option.
  2. Temporarily disable Antivirus protection and install new Key.
  3. Detatch and reattach the Sharepoint_Config DB: this would, I believe, mean I'd have to close connections to all farm WFEs, detatch the DB, and then reattach, and see if the box is still greyed out.
  4. Unsupported SQL query

Any other options? Other than 1, are any of these the generally accepted method?

Upgrade a MOSS 2007 Enterprise site to Sharepoint 2010 Server Standard

I've been able to do a successful attach upgrade, but found all kinds of missing Features. After much confusion (and numerous posts here), I looked in the 2007 farm's Convert License Type and found that it was, unbeknownst to me, an Office SharePoint Server with Enterprise Client Access License server.

The current MOSS farm is down to a single site, and none of the Enterprise features are utilized.

What is the best approach to upgrading from MOSS 2007 Enterprise to 2010 Server Standard?
