How to let normal users view Report Snapshot History

$
0
0

I'm using SQL Server Reporting Services 2012 in SharePoint 2013 integrated mode.

One of our business needs is to enable users to view up to 16 past versions of a report. To accomplish this we decided to use report snapshots having the report server save up to 16 snapshots, generating every 30 minutes (as per our requirement) a new snapshot.

Our problem is that we cannot find a correct way to adjust the permissions on the users role so that they can click on the View Report History option of a specific report. Using http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb283148.aspx we concluded that the permission needed is View Versions which, as the link states, provides the following permission: View past versions of a document and report snapshots. . Unfortunately this does not work, the only moment that View Report History appears is when theEdit Items permission is given to the user.

Does anybody know what permissions need to be granted so a user can view a report and also view a snapshot of the report? what are we missing here?

If this is not possible (so you must be able to Edit to view report history) does anybody know a work around for this? for example having a report of report snapshots which will list the snapshots and direct users to a report that executes the selected snapshot.

Thanks,

PD: also by following this link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326416.aspx it states You must have Edit Items permission on the library that contains the report. To view or delete report history, you must have View Versions or Delete Versions permissions.

Search crawl to SPS3://mysite.domain.com gives "Access Denied"

I am having an issue with indexing user profiles with the SPS3 protocol handler.   Each time it runs I get an "Access Denied" error in my crawl logs.   I have verified that the default content search account has full read permissions on the web application.   I have verified that I don't have a  loop back check issue.

In my environment I have 3 seperate web applications.  One hosts intranet publishing content, one hosts collaboration content and the third is for the mysites.   The web applications all use host headers and share a single IP address.   Everything is over HTTP.

My dev farm is configured with a single web front end, a single services server and a SQL server.    The services server is running the search admin and crawl components.  The web front end hosts the query component.

In the search content source the URL being crawled is SPS3://mysites.domain.com andhttp://mysites.domain.com.   In the crawl logs it shows the following error for SPS3://mysites.domain.com:

Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has"Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled. ( HttpStatusCode Unauthorized The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized. )

Any ideas?

Did anybody find a resolution to the SharePoint 2010 datasheet custom filters bug?

Farm Reboot - Best Practices?

$

I've searched all over the internet and havent found any information about best practices when rebooting a farm to accept new microsoft OS patches.  For some reason i remember someone telling me, or remember reading it somewhere that you should pause any current running crawls in search administration, reboot servers(taking NLB into account) and then run an IIS reset when they come back up, and finally resume any paused crawls.

Is this a recommended best practice?   Currently we have a farm that is setup to automatically reboot itself via task scheduler.  It has a batch file that gets run to turn off sharepoint services, reboot, and then resume the services.  I havent confirmed it but i'm assuming this would kick off a full crawl for any content sources that were in the middle of a crawl.

What are some concerns that i should have with rebooting a server this way?  Is there any documentation that anyone knows of that details the reboot process?  Is there even a reboot process or am i making this all up?

SP 2010 Content Type that Rebuffs All Delete Attempts

$

I have a SP 2010 Content Type that just clings for its dear life. It inherits from "Form" and any associated workflows and lists have been deleted. Site & Site Collection recycle bins have been emptied. The SharePoint object model does not recognize any associated objects (used SP Manager and PowerShell separately). I did find list associations lingering in the Content DB however, those lists are of the aforementioned deletes. So it's really a matter of 1st taking care of the "phantom lists" menace, but my hands seemed tied using the SharePoint API. And I'm obviously not going to run SQL DELETES on a bunch of tables in the Content DB, unless I'm pining for SharePoint suicide. I've Googled to my wit's end. Most pages point to the recycling bin issue, but as I mentioned, I've taken care of that already. I'd be most appreciative and in awe if someone had a safe, sure-fire method to extricate this tenacious tyrant of a Content Type.

I also ran stsadm -o databaserepair -url https://www.com -databasename DB_NAME -deletecorruption to no avail.

And I tried stsadm -o forcedeletelist but got a 0x80070002 which i'd say is due to the problems stated in my main entry.

I'd like to hope that there's someone out there that could crack this one. I can't be the only one to have ever encountered this.

Is there a way to set the option in Version control to be selected as Major by default? It seems to be set to default to minor in our current SharePoint 2010 configuration. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

for some users profile pictures are not getting updated in AD

Hi,

For some users profile pictures are not updating or synchronizing in AD from SharePoint. When I checked for the picture urlin database it is null for all users. Even I used a powershell script using userprofile manager to get the picture url value for all users but it is still giving no result. In MIISClient I checked for those users data is not at all exporting or coming in the log after running incremental sync.

So my questions are

1) what to do next in order to resolve this issue.

2) Why Picture URL is null when every user has picture in mysite.

Please reply asap

Applying Service Pack 1 to SharePoint Foundation 2010

Hi,

I have SharePoint Foundation 2010 RTM environment, and right now the management want to apply the Search Server Express 2010. I found out that there are already many CU's and SP1 for both SharePoint Foundation 2010 and Search Server Express 2010.

I'm a little bit confused regarding the sequence or order of installation.

I read some article saying that for SharePoint Foundation 2010, SP1 should install first then followed with June 2011 CU

Find out what account was used to administer TFS' SharePoint

I recently took over a location and all the admins are now gone.  People are requesting access to TFS' Sharepoint site and I don't have access to it, even though I am a domain admin of their AD.

How do I find out what account had admin access to the SharePoint site and change it?

Server is running TFS 2010, so I'm assuming the integrated Sharepoint is 2010 as well.

SharePoint 2010: User Profile Synchronization and FIM

Performing a database attach upgrade of SharePoint 2007 farm. The users never embraced the My Sites so they do not need to be migrated. I moved the Shared Services db and used the Power Shell Mount command to upgrade the database. This was done with the content databases, which worked fine.  I was following the steps outlined here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263299.aspx

Steps taken:
1.   Created an application pool for the User Profile with the Powershell command: New-SPServiceApplicationPool -Name <ApplicationPoolName>
 -Account <DOMAIN\username>
2.  Verified the Managed Metadata Service was running
upgraded the SSP database with New-SPProfileServiceApplication -applicationpool <ApplicationPoolName> -Name <ServiceApplicationName> -Profiledbname <DatabaseName> [-Profiledbserver <ServerName>]
3.  Created the proxy for the User profile using: New-SPProfileServiceApplicationProxy -ServiceApplication <ProfileServiceApplicationID> -Name <ProxyName> -DefaultProxyGroup
4. Updated the permissions for the User Profile Service in Central Admin
5. Attempted to start the User Profile Synchronization service in Central Admin

Service is stuck in a Starting state.

I looked at the Forefront Identity Manager services in the services console and they were set to Disabled. After reading some articles I set them to Automatic (Delayed Start) then rebooted the box. The Log On As for the FIM Synch Service was set to "\". I wasn't sure why or how that got set so I changed it to my farm admin account. The FIM Synch service will not start. It is throwing a ton of errors in the Event Logs.

Forefront Identity manager synchronization service terminated with the following error: the system cannot find the file specified

Sharepoint 2010 - Event ID 5555 "Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileApplicationNotAvailableException"

Hi All,

We had an incident a few days ago where our whole Sharepoint environment went offline.  It was due to the original IT team (not mine) using their own user accounts to run some of the services on Sharepoint and their accounts had expired.  Anyway, long story short,  I've gone through and changed everything I could find that was relying on 'user accounts' and its all up and running again.

I had to deal with a few issues in the event logs but there is one I just can't get rid of.  It is in the Application logs and is marked as 'Critical':

Failure trying to synch web application 771faeb6-c3de-450e-9e52-a228354bc9b3, ContentDB 6c0d9dd2-b05b-4817-97d3-a61e6cca5981  Exception message was Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileApplicationNotAvailableException: No User Profile Application available to service the request. Contact your farm administrator.

   at Microsoft.Office.Server.Administration.UserProfileApplicationProxy.get_PerfmonInstanceHandle()
at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.ContentDBSynchronizer..ctor(ELogType logType, SPContentDatabase cdb, SPJobState jobState)
   at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.WSSProfileSyncJob.Execute()

I get this entry every hour on the hour and I can't seem to resolve it.  I am sure it is a simple one but me not being familiar with Sharepoint is probably my biggest hurdle here.  Just wondering if anyone has come across this specific message (I know there are variants of it) and if they could suggest what I could do to resolve it?

Cheers guys.

We have a SharePoint 2010 Server with the following error message, however I cannot see where the issue lies, I have checked the Service account which looks fine Checked SQL priveledges and they look fine, any help would be greatly appreciated at this stage as we cannot use Sharepoint at all, there must be a permissions issue as I cannot even access the site via Sharepoint designer

User Profile Synchronization, checking if NetBIOS Domain Names was enabled.

After multiple tries I finally got User Profile Synchronization setup... or so I thought.  I was down to the very last step of starting the sync...when I start the synchronization it never starts and the status remains "Idle".  The timer job is not giving me very helpful information and is reporting "Generic Error".

I had fallowed two separate articles.  I did the Enable NetBIOS domain names but I am unsure which example I did it from or if it took.  Is there a way to check this?  Is there any harm in running it again?  Do I have to restart anything to pick up the changes?

Thank you very much for any information.
