SP2010 - Manage Service Accounts - The specified user could not be found. Some or all identity references could not be translated.

Happy New Year all. I hope you can assist me. I've searched the Forums for a solution to this without avail.

On a Server 2008r2 base machine I've created a new Hyper-V VM using Server 2008r2 and set it up as a domain controller. This is for the purpose of building out a SharePoint 2010 dev environment.

  1. The VM has 5gb RAM and is connected to the internet fine but is not using a static IP. SharePoint 2010 has been succecssfully configured.
  2. I've set up the following AD User accounts sp_farm - made a member of Domain Admins, sp_serviceapp, sp_apppool & SQL_service. (PW's never expire).
  3. Windows Updates are all installed
  4. SQL Server 2008r2 has successfully been installed using the <domain>/SQL_service account, all features installed.
  5. The ADO.NET Data Services Update for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 for Windows7 & Windows Server 2008r2 has been installed.
  6. SP Server 2008 Enterprise was installed
  7. Office Web Applications was installed prior to starting the SP configuration wizard.
  8. Initial Farm Configuration Wizard was used to set up initial managed accounts and to create service apps with default settings.
  9. Manual configuration steps wer performed such as configuring  a Profile Import - started User Profile Sync Service, Enabled Activity Feed Timer Job, Ran Search Crawl, Set up the Secure Store, Added Managed Metadata from the sample import file. (some of these took quite a time to complete but I waited before moving from one to the other)
  10. I'm now trying to create a Managed Account via Central Administration
    a. From Central Admin - click Security
    b. From General Security Section click "Configure managed accounts"
    c. Clicked on "Register Managed Account"
    d. In "User name" entered <Domain(12 alpha char)>\sp_apppool
    e. Entered valid password for VM
    f. Left other boxes as-is and clicked OK

The following error occurs: The specified user <Domain>\sp_apppool could not be found. Some or all identity references could not be translated.

AD lists the following User Account: sp_apppool
1. User Logon name = sp_apppool@<domain>.com
2. PW never expires
3. First name: sp_apppool
4. Display Name: sp_apppool
5. pre-Windows 200 Logon name: <domain>\sp_apppool
6. Member of Domain Users
7. Tried adding member of Domain Admins, IIS_IUSRS, WSS_WPG & Performance Monitor Users without any luck.
8. Security tab: Everyone - Change PW, Authenticated Users - Read access. System - Full Control, Self - Change PW & specific Read permissions, Domain Admins - everything but full control, Cert Publishers some specific read permissions, Enterprise Admins - Everything but full control, Administrators - Everything but full control, Pre_win 2000 - Read, Win Authorize Access - Specific Read access & Terminal Server License - Specific Read Access.

Can someone help me determine why I am unable to register the managed account?

I hope I've provided enough details.

Thank you,

Richard

After using sharepoint central administration to "delete a site collection" I noticed, after 24hrs, the database still exists in the sql server databases.  The site collection is no longer shown in central administration, and does not appear in the results of a Get-SPContentDatabase ps cmd.

Environment: Sharepoint 2010 server with 1 wfe/app,  and sql server standard on backend server

SharePoint 2010: Backup strategy for a SharePoint farm in cluster

    Hi,

I have a SharePoint 2010 farm, with two SharePoint servers in active/active mode and a cluster Database server.

We need to decide on the backup strategy for this farm. What should be the best approach?

If I go for full farm backup- then what needs to be done from configuration part with respect to cluster,i.e. do I need to configure the backup explicitly on one of the SharePOint servers, or will it automatically take place on both the servers? What if my one of the active SP server goes down, what will happen to my backup job?

If we go for database backup, then, what extra needs to be taken care of with respect to SharePoint?

Which of the two is recommended? or is there any other bettersh approach?

    Hi All,

Can you please let me know the best ways to resolve below issue.

Issue : Missing server file or server configuration issues

Server side files are referenced in the content databases, but are not installed on the server. Without these files, the sites may not function completely or the content may not render correctly. Also, upgrade or post upgrade issues may occur if these files are not available in the new version environment. The following web part(s) are referenced by the content, but they are not installed on the web server

     • Id = c17f9896-5c01-bf29-48af-096fd218184e, Type = Unknown, Reference = 9, Status = Missing

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks,

I am using SharePoint 2010 foundation and am wondering about saving word documents to sharepoint

I have seen this link http://sharepointpolice.com/blog/2010/05/03/sharepoint-2010-feature-comparison-sharepoint-foundation-2010-vs-sharepoint-2010-standardenterprise which suggests that microsoft office integration is supported in Sharepoint foundation. Does this mean that i can connect to office through sharepoint?

How would i go about connecting office to sharepoint? At the moment, i have to create network places so that the computer knows where SharePoint is

    Hi All

I have Sharepoint 2010 running on a VM, which is connected to a VM running SQL 2008.

I want to build a new VM for Sharepoint 2010, as the current one is pretty poor. How do I go about setting up a new VM and moving Sharepoint 2010 to that new server and linking it to the SQL database/server with minimal chance of problems?

    Any guides etc online?

We are in the process of moving away from SharePoint 2007 (sp2), our ultimate goal is to upgrade to SharePoint 2013 however I am having an issue getting past SharePoint 2010.

Using the database attach method, having backed up & restored the content database. Mounting the content database produces the following error log:

    [powershell] [SPSiteWssSequence2] [INFO] [19/06/2013 09:38:41]: SPSite Url=http://sharepoint2010.domain.ac.uk

[powershell] [SPSiteWssSequence2] [ERROR] [19/06/2013 09:38:41]: Feature upgrade incomplete for Feature 'PremiumSite' (Id: '8581a8a7-cf16-4770-ac54-260265ddb0b2') in Site 'http://sharepoint2010.domain.ac.uk'. Exception: The user does not exist or is not unique.  (Inner Exception: The user does not exist or is not unique.<nativehr>0x81020054</nativehr><nativestack></nativestack>)

Similarly Upgrade-SPContentDatabase <Database Name> results in the same error reports

Central Administration manage Database Upgrade Status reports: Database is up to date, but some sites are not completely upgraded.

User Profile service not updating when login id changes

    Hi,

My user profile service is not picking up the changes from AD when user changes the login id and lastname. A lot of female employee get married and change their last name along with login id. But nothing reflects in User Profile service application , and profile store. I have to run stsadm migrate user command and sync from ad command from powershell to update it in the site. Should not this be done automatically from profile sync? If yes why is it not doing it? Also how to map a property from user profile to AD property? This might be missing too. But i have no idea how to verify it?

    Hi All,

We are in the middle of setting up a Multi-Tenant SharePoint 2010 deployment, and have been following the instructions and scripts in this tutorial. http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010mt1.aspx I am up to the last part about provisioning tenants, and noticed that this script only provisions them under HTTP. We would like them to access the site via HTTPS instead. Should I have done something else differently in the initial setup to be able to do this, and can i fix that now?

    Thanks,

Setting up SSRS 2012 on Sharepoint 2010

    Hi,

I have an SSRS 2012 service application running on a Sharepoint 2010 farm, whenever I try to go to the "system settings" on the service application I get an http 403 forbidden. From the ULS logs:

Application error when access /_admin/ReportServer/ReportingServicesSystemSettings.aspx, Error=The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.

I have a lot of errors in event log as this one:

The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.ReportingServices.SharePoint.SharedService.Service.DoWorkTimerJob (ID 449b85fb-c051-429c-bed0-649f3112e3c3) threw an exception. More information is included below.

The HTTP request was forbidden with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'.

It looks like it's some issue with authentication configuration, but I can't seem to find what exactly...

I'm a summer intern with no previous knowledge of Share Point so please bare with me. I have administrative access to Share Point Foundations 2010, and I need to make a new site collection. However I'm unable to get onto the Central Administration page. Is there some other form of permissions I need to acquire? Or just some trick that I can try in order to access the page.

The expected version of the product was not found on the system

I have a SharePoint 2010 environment which I am getting the error message "The expected version of the product was not found on the system" when trying to apply the October 2012 CU.  The server has (for a long time) had SharePoint 2010 SP1 applied, and in fact was on Feb 2012 CU, prior to attempting to run this.  I've tried to reboot the server, run both the foundation update, and the server (both with the same error message results), and even uninstalled Office 2010 (which happened to be on the server for development purposes), hoping that perhaps it was an Office component that was failing - same results afterwards.

As none of this was working, I tried instead to download another CU (June 2012 CU) and apply it to the server.  This one worked successfully, and the server was then on the June 2012 CU.  I then retried to apply the October 2012 CU, with the same (failed) results.

Note: There are NO language packs installed, only the default English Language (1033) has ever been used on this server.

I have tried using the workaround described here, however, that allows the installation to proceed, but it finishes the entire installation in just a few seconds (in other words, no files are actually copied, and no upgrade is every triggered when running psconfig) - normally this operation takes upwards of an hour, so skipping the check doesn't actually solve the problem.

I've also tried re-downloading the packages on the off chance that something went wrong in the download - this made no difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Extranet architecture/setup from existing sharepoint web application

    Hi,

I have two questions regarding enabling extranet

    1. I have an existing web application port 80 (mymachine:80) behind LAN firewall, I want to extend it to an extranet  and make it accessible to external users who will athenticate using FBA SQL database and want them to access same content of internal users from URL(extranet.mycompany.com).

Users are not in active directory but will be stored in database. What are the steps for URL to be accessible for people outside the company (I think it is DNS or netbios but I am not very networking guy)

    2. I already have a web app, tried to extend it but could not enable FBA ( it is disabled ) is there a powershell cmdlet to enable claims on existing app?
