Sharepoint 2010 October 2012 CU PSConfig upgrade issue

Hi,

We have a publishing form (3 WFEs) and I installed October 2012 CU on all three servers. (success)

Ran SP production configurtion wizard, but it fails on step 3 with 

Exception: Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPUpdatedConcurrencyException: An update conflict has occurred, and you must re-try this action. The object SPUpgradeSession Name=Upgrade-20130604-231558-718 was updated by administrator, in the PSCONFIGGUI (6080) process, on machine SharePoint2010. View the tracing log for more information about the conflict"

option 1. I tried the following commands as mentioned in some blog in PS, But got the same error

stsadm -o setproperty -pn command-line-upgrade-running -pv Yes

psconfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b –wait –force

option 2. Timer, admin and www stopped on step2, so manually restarted the services after step2 and ran the above commands, but still the same error.

Any help?

Deleted Central Admin Database

Hi,

I was doing a check on a SP2010 farm and came to find out the Central Admin site isn't reachable. Not sure what has happened here, but the site is gone and when quering the content database for associated web app with the get-contentdatabase -webapplication<URL> cmd the site count returns zero (0)?!

So.. a real horrorstory here.. I found a couple of Central Admin databases but when trying to mount it to a web app it gives me nothing, and when running a check to see its contents it says no sites exist in the CA database.

So, now I have tried several attempts to reprovision the central admin site via SPCW or cmdline, but no success. It creates a website but on the website it gives a "object reference not set to an instance of an object"... yeah.. the errormessage that says exactly nothing to me. ULS is not giving any clue's and Eventlog gives an error 8031 ('topology' category) "the uri endpoint information may be stale. The requested application could not be found'

My question is if I want to create a new Central Admin database with a new Central Admin site, will I loose any configuration (such as functionality issues, customization issues, Central Admin configuration settings etc) or is it harmless?

Reason why I ask is because I came to a point where I have spent days trying to fix the CA site issue, but I am now considering if starting from scratch is a harmless solution. In other words, will it have impact on my current farm state and configuration if yes, what exactly might happen if I delete the existing central admin databases and start from scratch with the psconfig provision central admin cmd?

I have already tried provisioning with the existing databases in SQL, but since it still did not provision I think I might just throw the existing DBs away and start with no DBs at all from scratch to see if I find any luck?

PSconfig failing on one WFE

I have upgraded my farm to the Dec. 2012 CU. The App server and one WFE ran the PSCONFIG utility perfectly. However, my other WFE fails. I've been through one AD error that was resolved but now I am faced with another type of error:

First of all, I want to confirm that it appears to be the Workflow process DLL that is in use. Second, if so, is there a way that I can find all running workflows across a site collection? I can use PowerShell but I am not a programmer (no VB, C#, etc.). And, once found, will I have to kill all running workflows? That would cause problems in the case of Approval workflows.

Hi, 

Is there a trick with getting the web analytic reports to send a email?

i Have create a workflow via web analytic, chose my username as the user to mail the report to and chose 3 reports to be mailed to me but although the workflow say successful if i start the workflow manually i dont get an email.

Email is configured and working on the site.

Cant find any errors in the ULS logs 

Upload File option nolonger in sp2010 form after editing template using infopath

Hi, I want my users of the sharepoint 2010 list to be able to upload a number of documents to list items when required.

We have 2 fields on the form, one so that a document with questions can be added, and one for a similar answer document.

Befor using infopath, the enhanced type text allowed the user to upload a file to that column. But the tab which has the upload option is now missing from the form once edited by infopath.

i don't want the users to have to upload documents elswhere on the sharepoint site and it makes the process much longer.

Also I don't seem to have the attach control on my infopath settings

   

Link People Search Results (peopleresults.aspx page) to the user profile properties?

Hi,

Hoping someone may guide me how to link people search results from the peopleresults.aspx page to the user profile properties. People search (people.aspx) seems to work fine – it does return the results with some basic information. For example email or phone number along with the name of the person. Now when I hover mouse over the name - I see it’s linked to ‘/EntSearchCenter/pages/’ and clicking the name (hoping to see details) takes you back to the /default.aspx page.

Seems to me something basic missing somewhere but can’t seem to figure that out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just as an FYI - When compare this Enterprise Search Center with another installation – clicking names from the people search results page opens the mysite for that person. Both the farms are SharePoint 2010 Servers and has SP1 applied along with Oct 2012 CU.

Apply drop shadow to webparts

OK so I've got me new sharepoint page up and running in Sharepoint 2010 and have applied the visual upgrade.  I like the simplicity of it, but I've noticed the page looks somewhat bland and runs together.  Main reason is that there are no borders around my webparts at all.  I tried opening it in Sharepoint Designer and modifying it that way, but no dice.  Anyone know how to apply a drop shadow to the webparts to give them some depty?

After installing Oct 2012 CU on sp 2010 server, PSCOnfig fails with conflict message in step 3 out of 4

The status returns

<object><name /><type>Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPWebServiceInstance</type><level>2</level><status>Needs Upgrade</status></object>

I tried every option that mentioned in blogs,

clear timer cache, restarted timer service on step3, stsadm -o setproperty -pn command-line-upgrade-running -pv Yes, stsadm -o setproperty -pn command-line-upgrade-running -pv No, 

psconfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b –wait –force, with installfeatures...
Nothing works.

Any Ideas how to upgrade one single object remaining (

Adobe I-Filter creating thousand of folders on system root.

I have adobe's v9 ilfilter installed with Sharepoint 2010 on a windows server 2008 r2 box. Indexing seems to working fine and pdf results are returned in a a sharepoint search.  My problem however is that thousands of directories are being created on the C:/ drive beginning with "A9R" followed by a bunch of numbers and letters with legitimate pdf documents (with normal documents names) inside. I read about a similar issue here http://forums.adobe.com/thread/707241?tstart=1 and here http://blogs.adobe.com/acrobat/2008/12/adobe_pdf_ifilter_9_for_64bit.html (about half way down the page). No one seems to have a solution let alone an explanation. Even more scary, is that I cannot seem to find any of these documents anywhere else.

PLEASE HELP!!

TechSol Fab-40 KnowledgeBase template for 2010

We have downloaded and tried to install this template but cannot get it to work.

 

We are migrating from MOSS 2007 on a 32-bit Windows 2003 server to SP 2010 on a 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2 machine using the DB backup/restore (attach/detach) method.  In this scenario, at what point should we install the KnowledgeBase template?  How does SP 2010 know to associate the new KB 2010 template with the KB content coming from MOSS 2007?

 

What we have tried (without success) is:

1.      Install SP 2010 and run the configuration wizard

2.      Install the KB template as described in Items 3-5 of the TechSol ReadMe

3.      Restore content DBs

4.      Dismount default content DB

5.      Mount content DBs restored from SP 2007

 

Obviously we are doing something wrong.  Any suggestions?

 

synch Sharepoint project list or custom list with CRM 2011 online task

Hi, we are using Sharepoint 2013 online and CRM 2011 online - Is there a way to synch the tasks list that we create in SharePoint back to CRM 2011 online? its a very basic tasks that has state/end dates and some description and notes that's all. 

If its not possible out-of-box, how can we access the task list in sharepoint programmatically - From  CRM, I would simply create a plug-in on create/update of Task and would like to pass the record over to Sharepoint list and would like to do the same from sharepoint as well. Any idea would be very helpful.

SharePoint Alerts - Not Functioning Correctly

We have a custom list in SP2010 Foundation with about 40 columns. The list is currently at about 9,000 list items. This list has about 20 views and about 5 of the views are used to notify different employees that they have a task waiting on them. Essentially sign up for the alert on the view that is relative to them and where the people picker for a column is equal to them ([Me]).

This has  and continues to work flawlessly for all those that have already been set up with these alerts. However, we've recently ran into an issue where people who did not previously have the alert set up and now want it are receiving invalid alerts for things that are not equal to them in the people picker. Have we reached some kind of limit? Or bug? The bad alerts are almost random dealing with list items that wouldn't mistakenly have been assigned and then re-assigned.

This is all pretty much out of the box SharePoint from a configuration standpoint.

create time sheet and approval in SP 2013 online?

We are using sharepoint online (2013) - we want to create a form to capture time sheet and leave request information. i.e. to be able to create time sheet forms probably using info path (and one for leave request). it's a simple form where the external user would select the dates for a given week and enter hours from Monday thro Friday - regular and overtime. Once created, he would then have an option to update the timesheet until it's in draft or rejected mode. once approved, it should be locked from editing unless approved by his manager.  any pointers would be greatly appreciated (i am sure such scenarios are common). Another, it would be real nice, if we can capture this detail inside of CRM online.

Creating new web application with existing Content Database

Hi,

I have seen lot of posts on similar error but none have been helpful so far and I need to resolve this urgently.

We have SP2010 environment with a web app that hosts intranet portal and has 2 site collections. I want to mirror this to another web app so that we can do our changes to it. I created a new Database in SQL Server. Took the Content DB backup of the portal and restored it on the new db(call it XXX). Then I created a new Web Application from Central Admin, assigned a dummy Content db while creation (call it YYY). After creation I did not create any site collection on this web app. Through powershell, I dismounted the db YYY and mounted the db XXX (Mount-SPContentDatabase "WSS_XXX" -DatabaseServer "AAA" -WebApplication <URL> -AssignNewDatabaseId). But now when I look at this new content db, it does not have any site collections. This is the backup of the Portal db which had 2 site collection.

What am I doing wrong here? I took this approach because the site collection backup from powershell is failing with error:operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.I struggled to resolve this but haven't been able to. Please need some help real soon.

Automatic SIte Deletion

I have one site collection and under that site collection there are 5-6 Meeting Workspace sub sites.

Today I faced a strange issue related to automatic deletion of all sub site. All sites are deleted automatically and  All sub site are present in recycle bin of site collection.

There is no setting in central admin for automatic deletion.

Is there any timer job which can do this? 

Any thought about this issue why all sub site are deleted automatically. It was happen with me twice.

Please suggest.

Change Button Order and Default Content Type not applying to all root folders

Hi,

I hope someone has seen this before.  When I edit the "Change new Button Order and Default Content type' in my document library settings, it does not apply to all the root folders in that library.  Most of them take the button order or default content type change right away, while some of the folders don't change at all.

Is it that, since (for the proble folders) the 'change button order' was edited at some point in the past, they will never take updates for Default Content type or New Button order from the Document Library serttings?

Does anyone have a solution that will (for lack of a better term) 'turn the inheritance back on' so that any changes to "New Button Order and default content type" in the Document library will aply to all folders?
