Custom Site Template Breaks When Copied, But Not When Moved
Sites based on a specific custom site template work perfectly and retain changes when we "MOVE" them; however, those same sites revert to the default content if "COPY" is used. I was wondering if this is a known bug and if so, what it's related to? We have other customer site templates that are working perfectly with both "COPY" and "MOVE, so we're not sure where the culprit is. My thoughts, as a web developer, is to ftp into the back-end and start looking around at the two custom template from a coding standpoint and see what's different, but apparently our SharePoint consultant thinks we should never need to go to the back end. So... how do I resolve a problem like this? How can I figure out what caused the problem? And if it *isn't* a good idea for me to go snooping around inside the document that dynamically creates the actual html, then am I able to copy the template that DOES work and change its TYPE? (The site template that works with COPY and MOVE is based on a Team Site, the other is based on something else.)

Managed metadata properties are not getting created in Central admin when a managed metadata column in created in Site columns
Hi,
In shaerpoint 2010, when we create a site column in a site collection the metadata property is not created in the Search service application-->Metadata Properties. i think because of this issue the metadata properties are not available in the serach refinement panel also.
Kindly help me to solve this.

How to monitor connection to AD during populate container query
I set up a test environment to troubleshoot user profiles being marked for deletion. After the user profile application and user profile synchronization service are started I try and create a connection. When I click the populate container button it sits at querying and never shows any of the containers pulled from AD. The user account has been added to all the FIM groups and is local admin and has correct AD rights to query AD as this is the same user account used for production. I have successfully pinged the AD server.
Is there a way to monitor what is happening when I click the populate containers button? What should I look for in the SP logs or in windows event logs that would give some explanation as to what is going
on?

SharePoint server problem
On our Sharepoint server at work, I have been allowed design privlidges on a pirticular section. However whenever i make any comments to explaining an authorization no one can see the approval explaination in the comment fields, I've also checked to see if other users are able to write comments which everyone is able to view once they save, and it works. I can make comments and save however, after saving, the comments do not show, it doesn't even show my name when i make the changes, any clues as to what the problem would be?
I believe it has something to do with my account name, as the beginning of my account sarts with something like this i:0g.t|adfs20|username

Lock a site in sitecollectionusing powershell.
Hi,
I tried to lock a Individual site in site collection using power shell ,but the the command is locking entire site collection.
The following command is to lock a sub site in share point, In the similar way I tried it for site,but its not working.
Command:
Set-SPSiteAdministration -Identity "http:// Sitename / subsite" -LockState "ReadOnly"

Change name of default page in dropdown from "Overview"
I want to change the name of the default page of a subsite in the dropdown menu in SharePoint 2010. For example, currently it reads
About
- Overview
- Board of Directors
- Staff
And I'd like it to read like the page titles
About
- About the Commission
- Board of Directors
- Staff
The guys here who made the template are telling me this is just the way things are in SP2010 (default page didn't even show up in SP2007 unless I created an alias in the navigation). Is this true or are they just not wanting to figure it out?

Could not sort Document ID column in SharePoint 2010 Document Library
Hi All,
I am able to sort all the columns in Document Library but not by Document ID column.
Could any body explain me how it will come and why we are not having that option for Document ID column. As this column was not created manually this columns comes automatically for all document libraries after activating the Document ID services feature.

Migrating custom site definitions from SP 2010 to 2013
Hi,
I have migrated most of my content from SP 2010 to 2013 with database attach upgrade method. While 80% of it got migrated , 20% did not due to presence of custom site definition or changes in master page. I do not want my company to buy migration tool for just 20% of content. Could anyone please tell me the best approach to do it without the need of third party tool and without losing any functionality?

server only for editors
Got 2 WFE servers that’s running some mixed authentication (anonymous and NTLM)
I would like to push a 3<sup>rd</sup> server into the farm setup - one that's only available for all the editors and only available at a specific address e.g. ‘admin.domain.com’ and then let the 2 front-ends running in anonymous mode.
How can I do this in the easiest way?
Do I just extend the farm and then make some changes to the webconfig at the 2 WFE?
Can someone tell me ‘how-to’ or provide a link to a guide?

Moved a content database and receive "Cannot connect to the configuration database."
I am trying to create a copy of my SharepPoint 2010 Enterprise production farm on a dev box. The production environment has two WFE and a SQL 2008 R2 database server.
The Dev box is Windows 7 with SharePoint 2010 Enterprise and SQL 2008 R2.
I installed SharePoint on the dev box and created a test Site Collection and it worked fine.
I made a backup of the content database from Production and restored it to the Dev database.
I used Central Administration to remove the content database from the webapplication on Dev and used Mount-SPContentDatabase to mount the restored content database.
When I go to Central Administration it shows the new content database for the webapplicaiton, but when I try to browse to the site I receive "Cannot connect to the configuration database."
How can I fix this error?

Error Converting SPF 2010 Application to Claims-Based Authentication
Hello All,
I am presently preparing a SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP1 deployment, in a test environment, for upgrade to SharePoint Foundation 2013. As part of this migration, we're going to migrate the single web application hosted on this deployment from classic-mode authentication to claims-based authentication.
The SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP1 environment I am working with is a single-server deployment, which is part of a single-server TFS 2012 deployment which includes the following all on one server (all x64-based):
- Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
- SQL Server 2012 SP1 (instance upgraded in-place from SQL Server 2008 Standard SP3)
- Team Foundation Server 2012 Update 2 (upgrade from TFS 2010 SP1)
- SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP1 (upgrade in-place from WSS 3.0 SP3)
To migrate the web application to claims-based authentication, I am attempting to follow the instructions under "Convert SharePoint 2010 Products classic-mode web applications to claims-based authentication in SharePoint 2010 Products and then upgrade to SharePoint 2013" in the following TechNet link:

I am able to successfully execute most of the PowerShell commands, from the SharePoint 2010 Management Shell, until I reach the final command "$wa.ProvisionGlobally()" in step 5,which returns the following error:

I have the following questions around this conversion from classic-mode authentication to claims-based authentication:

- In step 3, where it is indicated to use "yourDomain\yourUser" - does this need to be my own domain account, or can this be some sort of service account? The best-practice here is unclear to me, as I do not understand the role that this account plays in the claims-based authentication of the web application.
- How do I set the "
portalsuperuseraccount" and the "portalsuperreaderaccount" properties that are referenced in the bullet-points, following the note, at the end of step 5?

Strange ribbon/permissions issue
I have a site collection and domain\domain users have been granted read access as part of the visitors group at the top level.
In a document library I have broken inheritance and added a specific user with contribute access. When I view permissions at the top level it lists this user as "limited access".
The problem is that when the user edits a page the ribbon shows but all of the edit buttons are missing, infact all that shows is the site actions button.
Any ideas what could be missing here? Very baffling. I don't think I am setting permissions incorrectly.

Remove all ADFS configuration from SharePoint
Hello,
We have new SharePoint farm with ADFS 2.1 farm (so farm ADFS + PROXY) installed and working.
One of our requests is to change signing certificate so we could sign in using different URL.
I found it very confusing to change these certificates, so instead I would like to reinstall ADFS configuration with newly certificate. To do that, I must "remove" all my SAML Provider configuration from our SharePoint farm (correct me if I'm wrong).
How can I achieve my goal?

Access Denied Through UI but not PowerShell
I am unable to perform certain tasks through the UI that I can perform in PowerShell. I receive access denied messages. For example, activating the "Workflows" feature at the site collection level. The UI returns access denied, but in PowerShell, Enable-SPFeature works fine.
I am also unable to create a site from a custom template as installing/activate a sandbox solution gives the access denied message. I am able to work around this through PowerShell, but then selecting the template results in access denied. Below is the log:

New web application does not open
Hi All,
I created a new web application from Central Admin and then created a root site collection. When I try to open the root site collection, it gives me page not found error. I've seen some posts but they did not help. Please help me traverse through the issue and find the solution.
The web app name is DEV Test Site; Host header is Devtest.XXX-group.net so the URL to the site ishttp://devtest.XXX-group.net; port 80 and the content database is successfully created. No errors in the logs as well.
