Web capture web part error of Migration from SharePoint 2003 to SharePoint 2010

$

Since migrated SharePoint from 2003 to 2010,

the "web capture web part" can not use in the SP2010.

After I used a method according this link:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sharepointadminprevious/thread/eef96cb9-725c-4211-9efc-01fdc9411440

the "web capture web part" seems work fine.

But when i modify it, alert a error

"cannot create or modify Web Capture. Make sure that your browser supports
ActiveX controls, that you have enabled them, and that you have installed the
Web Capture ActiveX control."

May I know "web capture web part" still work in SP2010? Or MicroSoft suggest still using

""web capture web part" in SP2010 or any  alternative for this.

Many Thanks

Do you have an example of the difference between the out-of-box search and optimized search?

Hello,

I like to setup my SharePoint 2010 server with managed metadata and document properties, and wondering what are the differences between this and just using the out-of-box search capabilities of SharePoint 2010? I like to convince people spending the time and money to optimize search is the way to go for finding content.  Do you know of an online article where somebody shows an example of the differences?

Thanks

Migrating custom site definitions from SP 2010 to 2013

Hi,

I have migrated most of my content from SP 2010 to 2013 with database attach upgrade method. While 80% of it got migrated , 20% did not due to presence of custom site definition or changes in master page. I do not want my company to buy migration tool for just 20% of content. Could anyone please tell me the best approach to do it without the need of third party tool and without losing any functionality?

Thank you

Office Web Apps not working in Web Applications that use Claims-Based Authentication

I just ran across a problem we've been having with the few web applications we have configured to use claims-based authentication: Office Web Apps fails to open any documents with the error:

<label class="WACStandardDialogLabel" id="message">Word Web App cannot open this document for viewing because of an unexpected error. To view this document, open it in Microsoft Word.</label>

<label class="WACErrorId" id="errorId">Error Id: ab9ec8bf-7d83-4b34-a22d-6040fc430ead, 20130528100532</label>

I have researched this generic error and performed the troubleshooting that people have mentioned.  Most of instances of this error appear to be farm-wide, while in my particular case it actually only affect web applications that use CBA.  This leads me to believe that it may have something to do with the user accounts being used to run the service.  I notice that all users in a web app using CBA are listed as "i:0#.w|<domain>\<username>".  I wonder if the problem has to do with the service account used for my Word Viewing Service not being able to authenticate for some reason (even though that account DOES have access and is working properly)

Any ideas as to what could be causing this behavior?

Calendar View is empty after migration.

Greetings,

After a database migration from SharePoint 2007 to 2010, the Calendar view is empty. The back-end list of these Calendars still have all the data.

Thinking that the View Format might have gotten corrupted, I rebuilt the Calendar View, but it still showed up empty.

Is there a process to make the Calendar view sync with the list?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi All,

SSRS reports take huge time to load on Interent Explorer 8 (Need to test on other browsers)

My environment :

SQL Server reporting services (SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1)

Mode : SharePoint integration mode

SharePoint 2010

Behavior on Internet explorer 8 : Pretty slow to load cascading dropdowns (each dropdown has some 1000 values). Takes more than 5 minutes to load and generate the report.

Behavior on Chrome / Mozilla : Pretty fast, takes less than 10 seconds to load and generate the report.

Does anyone have any solution to this behavior ?

Regards

I have a customer who wants anyone on their team to be able to refresh the PowerPivot workbooks on their site. I will not know each individual user. Can I add all authenticated users to the SSS Members list? Is there any security issues with this?

Question about April 2013 CU and Different Version

$

 Hi All
According to Microsoft's Website (April 2013 CU)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;2775353

"Because the builds are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and security updates that were included in the previous SharePoint Server 2010 update package releases."

Question 1)
Can I Install SharePoint Server RTM ==> SP1 ==> April 2013 CU ? Or
SharePoint Server RTM ==> SP1 ==> June 2011 CU ==> April 2013 CU?
Question 2)
I have Updated SP Via Windows Update and I checked File Version in Folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\ISAPI
and I have 2 File "OWSSVR.DLL" & "Microsoft.SharePoint.dll" with version14.0.6137.5002
But in Central Administration =>Manage Patch Status , I see all Products with Version14.0.6029.1000
So Is this normal ?

Thanks For Your Reply.

Office documents not opening from SharePoint

$

Greetings,

After a migration from SharePoint 2007 to 2010, few office documents will no longer open. I haven't figured out a pattern to these documents yet.

When I try to open a document I get two errors.

  1. Could not open http://....xls (or xlsx or doc or docx)'
  2. Microsoft Excel (or Word) cannot access the file http://....xls (or xlsx or doc or docx)'. There are several possible reasons:

       - The file name or path does not exist.

       - The file is being used by another program.

       - The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.

I can save a document on my local machine and then open it without any problems.

I did come across some TechNet discussions and did try the below which didn't help me.

  • Click on Trust Center Settings in the right pane.
  • Select Protected View in the left pane of “Trust Center” dialog.
  • Disable any of all of the protected view options as below by unticking the check boxes:
    • Enable Protected View for files that fail validation
    • Enable Protected View for files originating from the Internet
    • Enable Protected View for files located in potentially unsafe locations
    • Enable Protected View for Outlook attachments"

We have a three tier environment with SharePoint, IIS and SQL on separate VM machines.

Are there any fixes available for this?

Administration site throws CheckSuspiciousPhysicalPath exception

$

I just installed SharePoint 2010 on my Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 server with SQL Server 2008.

Everything is installed on this single server, and I configured SharePoint 2010 as described here: http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/fromthefield/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=112

Everything installed correct, and the SQL databases were created.

But when I try to access the administration site through http://server:47632/_admin/adminconfigintro.aspx, I get the following exception:

  [HttpException]
    at System.Web.Util.FileUtil.CheckSuspiciousPhysicalPath(String physicalPath)
    at System.Web.CachedPathData.GetConfigPathData(String configPath)
    at System.Web.CachedPathData.GetConfigPathData(String configPath)
    at System.Web.CachedPathData.GetConfigPathData(String configPath)
    at System.Web.HttpContext.GetFilePathData()
    at System.Web.Configuration.CustomErrorsSection.GetSettings(HttpContext context, Boolean canThrow)
at System.Web.HttpResponse.ReportRuntimeError(Exception e, Boolean canThrow, Boolean localExecute)
at System.Web.HttpRuntime.FinishRequest(HttpWorkerRequest wr, HttpContext context, Exception e)

The same error occurs when accessing http://server:47632/.
Do you have any ideas whats causing this? I haven't been able to find anything about this issue.

Update-SPProfilePhotoStore not creating thumbnails of photos.

In our production SharePoint environment we cannot get the Update-SPProfilePhotoStore command to create the thumbnail images used in SharePoint.

This same process for syncing the photos with AD works perfectly in our development environment including the thumbnail creation, but I cannot get it working in production.  I can see the photos from AD are being updated on SharePoint in the User Photos folder on our my sites.  So I know the user profile synchronization is working with AD.

I run the following command as administrator using the SharePoint Management Shell:

Update-SPProfilePhotoStore -CreateThumbnailsForImportedPhotos 1 -MySiteHostLocation http://mysites

The log entries are as follows:

I get no errors, but the process runs in a split second and no updates are occurring.

I have verified that the farm administrator account has "Full Control" on the User Profile Service and on the User Photos folder in mysites.  Based on other posts and my own experience I felt it might be a permissions issue, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I have already taken the steps of deleting all the user profiles and resyncing them from AD, but that did not solve the issue.  Like I said above, the actual sync with AD works fine to get the photos into SharePoint.  My next step may be to recreate the User Profile Service, but I am trying to save that as the last resort.

So I guess my question is two-fold; One, is there a way to get more log information by turning on some kind of debug or looking at another log, and Two, is there still something I may be missing in the setup of the User Profiles? I have compared Production to Development and they look exactly the same.

Thanks.

SharePoint Noise File Not Working??

Hello SharePoint Fam,

I have been trying to configure noise word file for weeks now and still no luck.  I have deleted the noise files and recrated and still no luck.  Restarted search service several times after editing the file and still no luck.  I have a app server and web server and search service is on app server but I have been editing files on both servers while troubleshooting and still no luck.  The words that were defaulted from install actually work correctly but anything I add to these files will not work.  Not sure where else to troubleshoot.

Thanks n advance for any help/ideas

 Hey all,

I created a retention policy to delete all items in my list older than one year.  Now it's throwing an error (I just set the policy yesterday):

Computing the Expiration date for item Lists/MYLISTNAME/7195_.000 on site http://OURINTRANET failed.

Value does not fall within the expected range.

Anyone know what gives?

 Thanks!

sharepoint server migration

I need to come up with a plan that shows how to migrate our sharepoint site from environment to environment. What is the best way to approach this migration?

We currently have AvePoint, but it's going to be used for Content migration. I need to move the entire site, site collection, etc. to the new servers in our staging and the prod environments

Sharepoint Groups not visible while granting access to site.

Hello,

I have setup Sharepoint Groups to manage permissions. When someone requests access, I receive an email alert. Within this email is the link "Grant username access...to..".

If I click on this link, it takes me page that will allow me to grant permissions directly or to a group. The issue is that some of the groups that I have setup do not appear in the drop-down list for "Add users to a Sharepoint group".

I have compared the settings of the ones that appear with the ones that do not and there seems to be no difference. What can be the problem. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Usha
