Issue: Unable to create mysite for new users. Existing user's mysite is working fine.
Background: Couple of weeks back I was clearing few errors found on event viewer and found People ILM error. To fix this manually I started FIM services, which failed as expected but got what I wanted as it stopped giving this error. Everything's fine until couple of days back I came across new user who is able to log into site but when clicks My Site - supposedly create new site collection - it fails with error "ontrol: Exception thrown while adding control 'ASP.SocialDataUserControl': Object reference not set to an instance of an object.bb47d8cf-97f5-49b1-9dbc-03a487ca1" (more detailed one given below). To confirm, we tested with another user and same result.
Environment: SharePoint Server 2010 v14.0.4763.1000 (I know .. at least should be at SP1 level .. we are planning for upgrading to SP1 and then to latest CU or one-off CU) Farm - 2WFE - 1App - 1DB Authentication: Claims Based Authentication.
UPS & FIM background: Oddly, someone who setup SP farm, no longer with the company (as with most of the case), did not turn on UPS service On but had script (god knows where and how) that syncs profile between SP and AD. So that was the reason FIM services was disabled. I know anyone reading this be asking why on earth I was trying to manually start FIM services, well I was trying to clean up errors and since it fixed before ... on the hindsight ... Long story short, Is there a way to have my site working again? I came across few posts but none of them worked
