I've got a Sharepoint 2010 setup and I got a report that a user's profile name was wrong. I double checked AD, where it was right. Then I ran an import on Sharepoint and got an error. Checking the event log I saw the FIMSync service was stopped and would start even after a reboot.
So I found this article.

Which looks very in depth but it also looks like it's meant for a new setup. I'm basically just looking for why the service is no longer connecting to the db properly.
